  1. For a start, some of the bloated salaries on air talent is paid. I'm assuming at GH the likes of Valentini take a pay cut along with everyone else.
  2. Emma is smart. Probably said - if you want me then give me a contract. That way she knows she's guaranteed to be paid and onscreen for a certain period of time.
  3. How many short term stories did Malone/Gottlieb actually tell? I know there was the abuse story with Craig Wasson and something about Tina and 'The Daughters of Llanview'. How long did they actually last, who was involved and were there any others?
  4. Mickey was not suffering from amnesia when presumed dead. He was being held captive by Stefano. The contrived Don/Maggie story was an outcome of this and was not convincing for a minute. Laura's breakdown was played by Rosemary Forsyth not Susan Flannery.
  5. Just coincidence I'm sure. By that time Laura and Leslie's past were just footnotes. GH didn't have much interest in anything pre Monty.
  6. Is this clampdown just about soaps or any Sony related series?
  7. The Dobsons burned down the bookstore in an 80' s stunt. Look at how much time and money we spent on destroying a tradition! I think it was going to be rebuilt but not sure what happened. I think throughout the 60s and 70s there was hardly a customer except cast members. In just a few years bookstores/cafes became a big thing. Lisa running the fashion business was OK but the bookstore should have been kept.
  8. @Khan I was thinking Lloyd Kendall as well. Was there a role om ATWT around that time that would have suitedd Tom? I came across his widow Marcy's blog about his life, career and marriage several years ago. I recall it being a loving tribute. Today, trying to find out whether he voluntarily left GL I came across it again. But now, as a result of her contact with a psychic interpreting her dreams she has a completely different perspective on their life together. It's certainly interesting if not a little bizarre. If you're interested go to marcycasterline.com
  9. @Khan .According to his widow he was indeed fired. She also states that soon after he was offered a part on another P&G part but turned it down, without her knowledge.
  10. I think Matlock did skew older and NBC was fully aware of that. The whole point of scheduling it against Who's the Boss was to offer an alternative for the viewers who were not interested in WTB, whose demos would have been strong in kids, teens and young women. Matlock did well with men and older viewers. Programming 101.
  11. In the cases of Amanda and Justin's quick exits, perhaps it was the actors wanting to leave. I'm pretty sure that was the case for Tom O'Rourke who after 6 years wanted to try for primetime in LA. And perhaps Kathleen Cullen wanted a break after years in the role.
  12. Kim had an apartment in the 79 episodes when she was widowed. I think the Kim/Bob house was a newer set. Where did she live when married to Nick? And where was Bob living? After Jen's death I think he moved back in with Chris & Nancy so Nancy could look after Frannie. But the Hughes house was dropped and Bob married Miranda. Maybe she & Bob lived in that house and Kim moved in? Someone will know @vetsoapfan ?
  13. Marj Dusay was 12 years older than Lenore.
  14. That was an excellent fake as the spoilers were so yawn inducing that they seemed like actual Y&R.
  15. The Hawaii 50 / Barnaby Jones eps aired Thurs Dec 27 1977 so ATWT was probably the Tues or Wed episode of that week. Thanks @DRW50 for sharing.
  16. Not sure if this has been mentioned before. Frank Dicopoulos auditioned for Will Jeffries on GL.
  17. Frank Dicopoulos The Young and the Restless
  18. Me too. But Dallas was locked into a formula of JR wheeling and dealing and he had to be front and centre. KL was more of an ensemble and the characters had more possibilities. We see the same problem today on GH and Y&R with Sonny and Victor. Everyone else is compromised to keep them at the forefront.
  19. Just read that Carol Lynley was offered two guest roles and had to choose. She went with the NBC flop Sword of Justice, turning down the role of Valene in Dallas.
  20. Too Close for Comfort. Sabotage I guess. A hit for ABC in the hammock between 3's Company and Hart to Hart. In its second season it showed strength by outraging 3's on occasion. So ABC decided to move it to Thursday @ 9 to boost that night. But a poor lead in and tough competition in Simon & Simon saw ratings falter. But ABC didn't seem interested in salvaging what was still a newish show that had been Top 10. Cancelled at the end of its third season.
  21. TV Guide reported April 20 1968 that Sharon Laughlin had been signed for the new serial 'One Life to Lose' !
  22. That all makes sense. I wonder if Jean decided it wasn't a good fit or when Angela expressed interest they pounced. So much bts stuff goes on that we are not privy to. I was reading how Elizabeth Montgomery came to do Bewitched when Tammy Grimes had first dibs. Lots of back and forth and negotiating from all sides. It might have been as simple as Jean's people wanted too much money. Who knows ?
  23. @Khan I wonder how far they got with Jean in the role? She was announced in March in the CBS pilot presentation and by May Angela was in the role. I haven't been able to find any reports of what went down regarding the transition. I wonder if anyone else was considered and if Angela was looking to do a series at that time.
  24. Well JR was known to be sleeping around. I recall Serena, whom he would call on to unload on literally and figuratively. She ( or an earlier model) could have easily become pregnant with JR's child and knowing that was not part of the deal and would incur JR's wrath, left town and had the baby raised by her mom/sister. I felt sorry for Tina Louise being killed off before the show took off. Had Julie hung around, Tina would have had a whole new career as part of the Dallas phenomenon and been able to shed the Ginger from the Island tag.
  25. Dallas used the JR son reveal too late and then messed up with the casting of Sacha Mitchell. An earlier introduction and a more dynamic actor/ character would have given the show much needed new direction.
