BTG: January 2026 Discussion Thread
There's definitely a story there for Derek going to the dark side. Not out and out psycho but becoming desperate to regain Ashley-trying to create 'accidental' meet ups, the 'we can still be friends' strategy etc. Having Greg Vaughan come on and teasing a relationship with Nicole and then having her seeing Carlton is an odd choice. I'm sure Kial will start appearing more regularly but it is a rocky start.

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
Bryan Cranston left a nice comment and mentioned that they worked together on Loving. The Deadline article mentions 'early soap roles' leaving the impression that he moved on from soaps, whereas in fact he continued to work in soaps for decades alongside theater and film.

ABC Daytime
Seeing how savvy ABC was in promoting their daytime line up and the ratings the soaps were getting, I'm surprised they didn't put together a primetime special celebrating Luke and Laura's wedding, maybe on the Friday or Saturday night preceding. A retrospective of the couple, the Elizabeth Taylor visit, sneak peak of the wedding etc., It would have been good cross promotion, cheap to make and slotted Saturday @8, most likely rated better than the flop sitcoms airing there Maggie/Open All Night. It wasn't until 1990 that ABC aired the AMC 20th Anni special in primetime.

I don't mind Pamela popping in from time to time-plenty of people have friends they touch base with occasionally, But it could become wearing after a while I guess. I know there's a lot of personal drama going on, but the lack of work related scenes and stories is still a bugbear for me. Dani was on her laptop and mentioned the modelling agency, but that business is so far on the backburner. Chelsea/Kat is glossed over. Martin the politician, gossipy nurses, not sure what Smitty is doing, Vanessa the real estate mogul and so on.

ALL: Convenient Couples
On the AW thread, there was discussion of Michael/Rachel. Talk about an odd pairing, Didn't they try Cass/Donna at one point? I would also count Felicia/John.

Thanks @SoapDope78 for posting that. A nice story. Barbara must have been disappointed when she was axed as Leslie. Luckily Joyce on ATWT was waiting in the wings. But it seems viewers responded well to her and the Mike/Leslie relationship and Lynne Adams didn't resomate with a lot of the audience second time around. A similar think happened when John Colenback returned as Dan on ATWT. A lot of viewers preferred John Reilly's version of Dan.

BTG: Daytime veteran joins cast
OK so it seems he's a new love interest for Ashley. I found him boring on Y&R so it's going to be interesting how he works on BTG. And it will interesting to see if Ashley becomes more likeable with a new scene partner. Looks like he's recurring, so how often is he going to make that drive?

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Billboard July 24 1972 (*Danny Fortunato was Eileen's husband at the time.) Nectar in TV Push on LP NEW YORK - Nectar Records has launched a television advertising campaign for "Eileen Fulton Sings With You in Mind," which was released late last year, Danny Fortunato, Nectar president, who produces, promotes and markets the company's product, said that the Fulton LP is being supported by three TV spots in 12 markets. The commercials are airing on the CBS -TV soap opera, "As the World Turns," on which Miss Fulton stars. In addition, Nectar has placed ads in TV fan magazines. Her latest single, "I Wonder Who My Daddy Is," written by Gladys Shelley, was recently released. The artist's first single, "Radio," concerns the oldtime radio soap operas, and Fortunato believes it is the only record of its kind. Nectar is also into the nostalgia wave with "Bring the Boogie - Woogie Back," by Toni Mathis. The single recreates the musical background of the 40's, and is "probably the first nostalgic record created with a soul motif," by Fortunato. Nectar, which has 21 national independent distributors, has two music publishers, Scottie Music (BMI) and Donato Music (ASCAP). The label is aiming for the MOR pop market.

Just looking at characters birth dates . Christian was born Oct 2015 making him 10 yrs old. Just ridiculous that he hasn't been sighted in years. With the customary SORAS he should probably be 15 or 16 by now. Y&R has a viable younger generation with Connor/Katie/Johnny/Christian as teens and Faith/Reed/Moses now in early 20's. Sharon/Nick/Victor/Nikki can step back to being involved parents/grandparents.

So Tessa was married to a man and slept with Noah? Doesn't that make her sexuality 'fluid'? Stating that you're gay doesn't always make it so. Why couldn't she connect with Daniel? Mariah has been absent for months and rejected her. I have read on several occasions posters suggesting that characters who have been portrayed as straight should have a same sex relationship, so is it that absurd that Tessa, with her history, might get involved with a man? I'm not defending Josh Griffith at all, his writing on this plot has been as awful as ever.

I would have to assume that JL is now on contract which leads me to believe that Joey will be around for quite a while. Of course he was appearing as much as other contract players when he was recurring, so maybe there was BTS stuff ? Contract status ensures a regular income rather than per appearance. Perhaps he requested contract status to continue? Anyway the decision was made to demote Ben Gavin and give Jon the contract.

Liked the Bill/Anita scenes and Ted/Shanice. Glad Shanice is getting to show other aspects of her personality beyond the gossipy nurse we first saw. But I had to laugh when they said they needed to talk somewhere private and literally took two steps away from the front desk. And this was another opportunity to have Shanice actually do some nursing by saying at some point she had to attend to patients and would return to continue the conversation. Instead they just chatted away until at the end she mentioned her job. I keep hoping there will be some sort of breakthrough or a change in writing that supports or strengthens Tomas but poor AA continues to underwhelm.

I think they might have benefited by having some of the Duprees off-screen at the start so there would be fresh characters waiting in the wings. Y&R did that with Lorie to great effect. There were a lot of family and connections to sort out initially and some stuff got lost along the way. So maybe Chelsea or a male son of Nicole could be off-screen for a while.

Trouble with Kobe's revamp was that the characters mostly were dropped/left within a few years so there was no solid foundation. All the families were fragmented with more members off-screen than off in some cases. Succeeding teams made it worse by making more changes. They should have re-established the Bauer's with Hope returning and maybe Mike turning up with a new wife and step children. Then decide which other families should be prominent- Lewis, Marler, Shane, Reardon, Spaulding and structure the show to suit that vision.

This whole Matt story existed without the police being involved. Why? Victor doesn't need them. He has his crack(ed) security team ready for action. Really, the Newman's need a dedicated hotline to the GCPD considering the number of psychos they get involved with. Josh will surely continue on this path with Mari Jo, Shawn, Veronica, and that dude who stashed Victoria in the tree house waiting in the wings...

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
I guess Our House was NBC's determined attempt to provide some competition to 60 Minutes which was untouchable in that 7pm timeslot. I think they wanted to provide an alternative that would capture the demos that 60 Minutes didn't reach eg kids 2-11. young women etc. I would imagine it was quite successful in that regard. The list of shows that the opposition tried Sunday @7 through the 80's was a long one Those Amazing Animals Code Red Father Murphy Believe It or Not Voyagers First Camera Silver Spoons Punky Brewster Disney Incredible Sunday Life Goes On Programming for that slot was restricted by regulations-either Current Affairs, which 60 Minutes had a hold on or children centered-hence the opposition shows.
