  1. I doubt that at the time there was much interest in bringing on characters from a cancelled show. If for no other reason, there probably was no room story or budget wise.
  2. Some interesting names from these Y&R audition tapes archived at Museum of Broadcasting Chicago From various years: young actors audition for roles on "Y & R." Alexander, Jason Bernsen, Corbin Bowman, Pamela Daniels, David Mason Davidson, Eileen Davidson, Eileen Hauser, Wings Herring, Lynn Hickland, Catherine Hunley, Leann Lester, Terry Mowery, Carrie Purcill, Karen
  3. The Museum of Broadcasting Chicago has in the archive a screen test for Y&R featuring these performers Baker, David L. Cheyne, Hank Diamont, Don Dickson, Brenda Eckholdt, Steven Kayser, Allan J. Wilson, Robert I assume this was for Brad Carlton and they were testing with Brenda Dickson as Jill.

  5. A couple of episode summaries from Chicago Broadcast Museum Archives. Jerry receives a letter from his mother, while Dan and Susan hesitate telling him her fate. Jill needs a job, but settles for dinner with Gilly. Resentful over not being told sooner about his mother's death, Jerry runs away. Joanne stops by Gilly's office.
  6. Re The Bennetts Episode summaries mention the characters Stacy Victor, Judge Mansfield, Fern and Ralph.
  7. For ratings nerds: 1965 - 66 season PP Monday 39th 32.2 rating PP Tuesday 46th 31.1 rating 1966 - 67 season PP Monday 31st 31.2 rating PP Tuesday 61st 27.0 rating
  8. Looking at old TV listings, I saw Bethel Leslie in the cast of a CBS 90 min taped drama 'My Father and My Mother' with Ralph Bellamy, Jane Wyatt and Gene Hackman. It aired Feb 13 1968, so Bethel seemed to be actively pursuing other work at that time.
  9. '10 Years as a Queen of the Soap Operas'', so I would say 1961.
  10. re House on High Street Lilyan Chauvin (Marianne Y&R Lil Y&R etc) pictured with Phillip Abbott in an old article on the show. Dyan (then known as Diane) Cannons stint on For Better or Worse was 27 episodes.
  11. Reading that court case on Lydias stepson, it reported that he was 29 and had been married 4 times and had 5 children! Talk about soap opera lives...
  12. Yes, I looked online and most sources have Rita starting May 1970, but as we have found with The Doctors reruns, dates can be off. I believe Irna left in early 1970 as she was working on A World Apart. She was listed as headwriter on a Jan 30 script posted online. Pretty sure Carol was her creation as it seems odd she would bring her back in 72 if she hadnt created the character. So most likely Rita/Carol began mid 1969. That would fit in with her auditioning for AMC Nov/Dec of that year.
  13. Would the 'prompters' just be the people holding cue cards off set? I know over the years, different shows had various policies on the use of cue cards.
  14. Thanks for the reply. Obviously the writers who replaced Irna had no interest in Carol.Tom got involved with Meredith the heiress and then they seemed to be moving towards Tom and Barbara Ryan (Donna Wandrey). Would love to see synopses of that time to see how that all played out.
  15. So Rita was off ATWT late 69? Maybe she was recurring at that time so free to audition for AMC? Did she mention in the book anything about the first time she was dropped and the circumstances of her return? I thought when Irna came back in Jan 72 she brought Carol back and had Tom wed Carol by June of that year.
  16. I googled Jay Clark and Ted Bates (this was the ad agency that C-P used to package the show back in the days when ad agencies did this) and found this: Jay Clark, free lance director with the major networks, has joined the radio department of Ted Bates, Inc, That was Billboard 1943 so assuming that this was the same man, he worked for the agency for over 30 years.
  17. Maybe Melody should consider donating this stuff to a worthy charity eg the Y&R costume department...
  18. In light of Gerald Gordon's departure, it seems Anthony Cannon's character of Tom has been introduced to fill the void. But I think once the Pollocks depart, Tom gets written off. I noticed in the credits 2 people were credited under 'prompting'. Would this be cue card holders? Never seen this before on any soap.
  19. The Dec 4 issue of Closer Magazine (with Elvis and Pricilla on the cover) has a 4 page at home feature on Patty Weaver (ex Trish DOOL, ex Gina Y&R). Apparently Michael Damian pops in for dinner on occasion. I wonder if Wesley Eure gets an invite...
