  1. On the production side, soaps never found away to incorporate regular outdoor scenes into the weekly mix. British and Australian shows have always done this but the US shows stuck to the indoor format even when there had been technological advances that made it cheaper and easier. Days had Salem Mall on the lot for a while and of course GL had Peapack, but we never got to see a park, outdoor cafe etc. I recall at one point in the early 80's P&G were going to move to a production center in New York for all their shows.Maybe that complex could have included an outdoor taping facility?
  2. EON Nancy Mike had a child with first wife Sara, so why not Nancy. I believe Ann Flood was pregnant during her time on Edge but it was never written in. I know EON wasn't a family type show but at least one child for the Karrs would have been nice.
  3. Delta Burke Pilots/Proposals Charleston Stella Farrell 1979
  4. Barabara Ryan ATWT She was brought back in 78 after a brief stint years before. She was Kim's niece and Bob's stepdaughter but considering Bob's own daughter Frannie was finally dropped her longevity was impressive. So many other major characters came and went in that time.
  5. Imagine if we didn't have this ridiculous SORASING. Chance would be early to mid 30's. Abby would be early to mid 20's.
  6. Lovely photo tribute. Which got me thinking-are there any photos of Jerry with Joan Van Ark? Could we include Mommie Dearest for Jerry? A classic movie he was a part of.
  7. Precisely. i haven't watched since the wedding and reading synopses etc, apart from Chance's 'death' I have missed nothing. The same character, conversations. I did skim through the Wed episode. OMG the 'courtroom' scenes were an embarassment-that whole story is played like an outline. There is potential but its not explored. Jessie Gaines gets a hotel room hideaway but they won't do an office set for characters (Jack,Lauren, sally,Chloe,Michael, Devon etc) that are wandering around empty restaurants. Noah has been back a few weeks and all we've got so far is some vague backstory. Faith/Moses has received no play. Abby and that damn doll. Most of the female characters are dressed like hookers. I will tune in to see new Chance and Jill.
  8. Hopefully Y&R will have the Abbott children gather to remember John as an onscreen tribute to Jerry.
  9. Days - Maggie Like several other characters in the 80's-Bill, Laura,Don, Marie, Doug,Julie etc Maggie departed Salem. But Suzanne was welcomed back and managed to stay on ever since, surviving Mickey and marrying Victor as well having retcon children created for her. At many points it wouldn't have been a surprise had Maggie left town or simply ceased to exist. But Ken Corday does have some loyalty to her.
  10. I really hoped that Maree Cheatham would return for Days 50th as the only original actress from the Horton family still with us but no dice.
  11. Yes I think that talk of GH being last was in reference to its timeslot, rather like Gl being celebrated as #1 wnen in fact it was #1 in its timeslot. The other factor re cancellation was that ABC owned GH so had full autonomy whereas P&G owned EON so the circumstances were different. ABC probably wanted to hang on to the mighty P&G as an advertiser.
  12. Gyl Rowland Peyton Place pilot Selena Cross 1964
  13. Didn't GL use the same weight gain/fat farm story when Denise Pence (Katie) was pregnant in 79? And AW replaced Laura Malone (Blaine) with Judy Dewey, supposedly as a temp. But Laura never came back and Judy took over the role.
  14. That floppy hair is giving me Daniel Hall/Scott vibes. Hope he works out better than that character.
  15. On point. Exactly what went wrong for Y&R. I still think Victoria and Nick were SORASED too soon.
  16. When Millee Taggart was pregnant, Search for Tomorrow wrote a surprise pregnancy for Janet. Danny Walton was the result. ATWT I think Patricia Bruder's real life pregnancies resulted in David and Ellen Stewart having Carol Ann (Annie)in 1967 and Dawn (Dee) in 1969.
  17. Kevin has barely been on and Chloe is a talk to. Not really sure what was the point of bringing them back although this sort of role is best.
  18. An actress becoming pregnant is one real life event that writers have to deal with. Which pregnancies were written into the story and which were covered up ? Do you recall characters being written off or replaced so actresses could have maternity leave? The first real life pregnancy I think soaps had to deal with was Mary Stuart on Search for Tomorrow. When the widowed Jo was marrying Arthur, she was heavily pregnant and photographed from the waist up. When Mary got pregnant again, they decided to let Arthur and Jo have a son . Mary was upset when the Hursleys decided to kill the child as she closely identified her onscreen son with her real life child.
  19. I'd have to nominate Phyllis on Y&R. She came on as a spoiler to Cricket and Danny and tried to pass off another man's child as Danny's. She was responsible for all sorts of mayhem and it was expected that she'd be punished and be written off like Mari Jo and Lisa Mansfield. But she came back and got her hooks into an Abbott and a Newman and is still hanging around today. Stafford has left twice and they still keep welcoming her back.
  20. have to agree in general. Watching Y&R and seeing storylines created just to serve vet characters even if logic and past experiences get thrown out the window. Most characters can stand 10-15 years as frontburner at which point they have to take a back seat or be dropped altogether. It's great to see Jack Abbott onscreen after all these years but 3 days a week is not necessary. If the shows were structured properly, he would be the patriach at work and home to family and employees, not mooning after his twice ex wife who has betrayed him multiple times. By choice/necessity Bill Bell revamped Y&R after several years and gave the show new life. It's a pity he didn't follow through in the 90's and introduce a viable set of new characters and drop some others along the way.
  21. Josh Griffith usually avoids (over-the-top melo)drama in his writing.
  22. Arthur 'Eddie' Jones One Life to Live Preacher pre 1980 Jeff Allin Another World pre 1982
  23. A World Apart Leata Galloway ??? Hidden Faces Kevin O'Connor
  24. A couple of questions following on from those articles posted. How much longer did Anna remain on the show? Like her husband, Anna just faded away, but do we have a final airdate? In the synopsis 'Richard and Betty separate'. Who is Betty?
  25. I think you’re an absolute talent and you’re very beautiful as well. I don’t think a transphobic man would say that. I think you’re absolutely gorgeous, I really do.” He seems to think by telling her she's attractive in his eyes is some sort of validation for her and proof of his sincerity. Super weird comment.
