  1. Stay tuned... Bobbi got another chance foe primetime success with the comedy Turnabout starring Sharon Gless but it was shortlived. Scheduled against Dukes of Hazzard and part of Fred Silverman's chaotic scheduling era. She did a few episodes of Days in 1993.
  2. James Pritchett's 1000th episode aired May 19 1969.
  3. NBC damaged their entire daytime lineup by losing Let's Make a Deal to ABC LMAD had been averaging a 31 share at 1.30 up against ATWT. They replaced LMAD with Hidden Faces. ATWT 15.1/50 LMAD 31 share Hidden Faces 2.9/10 August 68 when LMAD lead into the NBC soaps v August 69 with HF as lead in Days 35 share down to 29 share Doctors 36 share down to 31
  4. Slick's SFT cast list has the first Dan Walton played by Allan Miller as 1958-59 so 1958 seems to be the likely year for this episode.
  5. The first real romance that Brock got was Julia bit that was short circuited as Beau left. As For Brock becoming a lawyer, it was probably a budget thing as much as anything else. Why bring in a day player when Beau was there and could fill that role? Days did the same thing with Chris Kositchek in the 80's and I'm sure there have been similar examples over the years.
  6. So good to see a new ep posted. Means there is more classic stuff out there. Ted and Millicent are listed as being on 57-58 as is Larry Hagman. Lynn Loring would have been 13/14 in 57/58 but Patti may have been aged up a bit to be part of more adult storylines. Pity there were no credits as we don't know who played Ted. Larry was channeling his Junior JR Ewing here with that look at Patti at the end. Loved Patti offering him a ciggie-already becoming the perfect hostess. Ted was puffing away earlier also. It looks like they were hinting that Patti would become enamored of Cliff and he would take advantage. As for the confusion with Cliff/Curt a lot of info printed in books about old soaps has turned out to be wrong-dates.names etc. Maybe the wonderful Jam can find some newspaper articles that refer to these characters that might verify things.
  7. That's looking very late 60's to me. was it used in a print ad? Another LOL tidbit. Actor turned director Burt Brinckerhoff had one of his first directing jobs on Love of Life in 1971.
  8. Love Is A Many Splendored Thing. Martha Greenhouse returned to the role of Sarah Hanley in Feb 71 as temp replacement for Sacsha Von Scherler
  9. That is my understanding. The Days of Our Lives treatment was written in 1961 so by 65 when it was optioned Irna had long been out of the loop. The story editor credit she was given in early episodes was just a token to acknowledge her earlier involvement. PS Nice to see you posting again Danfling! I always find your recollections of past soaps most interesting.
  10. Y&R Jill/David Mallory was retold years later when Andy was engaged to Jill but she wanted John Abbott. But it fitted in with who Jill was and what was happening at the time. The Jody story was one of Bill Bell's summer teen stories that featured a lot of preachy dialogue and wasted time on characters we didn't care about. GH The Elman's changes began to appear. Mary Ellen was exposed,Gary Lansing arrived.,Tom Baldwin left. There will be more comings and goings in the next few months.
  11. Only a couple of interviews surfaced in a quick search-none of them in depth and nothing since he first came on. “I think one thing that the audience felt was, a lot of things have changed, good or bad, but it didn’t feel like their show. So our first intent is, ‘How do we get back closer to that feeling?’ The music, how we edit, how we shoot, how we costume them [the actors]. It’s a big process. It takes time. We’re slowly getting there.” Griffith chimed in that the story was also important. “Getting back to the storytelling that has made the show so popular, for so long, which is very emotional, very character-driven, with iconic faces that the people know.”
  12. In all the time Morina has been EP I don't think he has given one interview. So we have no idea of his vision for the show and how he brings that to fruition. I'm sure he'll go and hopefully the next EP will do something(anything!!) to improve the show.
  13. My understanding is that Irna's involvement with DOOL was several years before the show aired, maybe the early 60's, when the proposal was put together, as a nightime serial. She was listed as story editor but Peggy Phillips was first headwriter before Bill Bell. I think the story editor title was pretty much honorary and she had no real involvement with the show, There was a lawsuit at some point initiated by Irna about her connection to the show.
  14. Guiding Light Bert Fletcher - James Ray 1969 This character is obviously connected to the Fletchers, some of whom were still onscreen at this time.
  15. I can confirm that ABC did not renew Irna and Katharine Phillips contract after the first year as they were not happy with the ratings. The Hollands as previously stated were the replacement writers. Variety notes they had recently worked on All My Children. Is this well known? The Variety article states that Irna was preparing a treatment for a screenplay-her first venture into movies. Interesting that Irna's final 3 shows-Another World, Splendored Thing and World Apart all saw her depart within a year.
  16. Both Laura and Lee were back months before Marland arrived.
  17. And Marcus was slated for Melissa. In light of recent discussions in the Classic Days thread it could be that the projected Brady siblings had names/characters changed to avoid lawsuits from PFS. As The World Turns Kim Irna Phillips final character creation, she envisioned her as a strong, independent woman who would raise her child from an affair alone and with no apologies. She was another projection of Irna herself. When she was fired from ATWT,the Soderbergs turned Kim into the long suffering heroine, who was battered by unfortunate circumstances,
  18. Week ending Dec 5 1971 ABC 7.7 NBC 7.7 CBS 7.6 1. General Hospital 10.2 2.Edge of Night 10.1 3. As The World Turns 9.9 ATWT deposed from #1 and CBS in 3rd. Irna Phillips was brought back after 2 years. I imagine she was offered a ton of cash to return. Edge having a major boost.
  19. ABC replaced A World Apart with reruns of Love American Style beginning June 28th 1971. It won its timeslot ABC Love American Style 8.4/31 12th CBS Search for Tomorrow 8.0/31 16th NBC Who, What, Where Game 6.5/25 26th AWA had been running 3rd in its slot, hence the cancellation. That pushed ABC from a 7.7/29 to 8.9/31 in daytime ratings just 0.4 behind CBS. So ABC decided to move LAS to 4pm and Password to 12.30 hoping that Password would be competitive at that time and LAS would improve the 4pm rating, thus pushing ABC to #1. Did it happen??
  20. Another World. Rachel Under Nixon/Cenedella she was the villian until Lemay decided to reform the character. Mary Matthews. Lemay decided to change a character firmly established from Irna Phillips through to Nixon/Cenedella.
  21. Reuben Greene WHERE THE HEART IS Dr. James Hudson began October 1971
  22. It was no secret that Larry was a drinker and I can imagine a certain boys club atmosphere on set. All fun and games for those in on it and not much for those who weren't. Larry knew that Dallas was his final reward and he rode it for all it was worth. I guess Barbara was treated with the respect she deserved and Linda strikes me as one of those women who put up with the boys antics while quietly doing her own thing. Victoria perhaps made her feelings known and got labelled as an uptight drag, just because she had little time for the frivolities. I liken it to any workplace where some people treat it as an extension of their social life- eg 'drinks on a Friday night after work' and those who want to go home get pressured or ridiculed for not wanting to party...
  23. This is not a good look for Morina or the show. Will he step aside, maintaining his innocence,'for the good of the show'?
  24. 1971 Some outfit called Allstar Enterprises were in talks with New Mexico State Movie commission to base proposed daytime serial 'Dreams in the Dust' in that state for economic reasons as well as locale. They hoped for a network sale. Author Kathleen Windsor who wrote the scandalous blockbuster 'Forever Amber' over 20 years previously had been signed as consultant. Allstar also claimed to be wooing former MGM star Greer Garson for a role.
  25. Victoria is supposed to be this savvy businesswoman and there should be the undercurrent that her relationship with Ashland has a business element to it. Ashland could even acknowledge it as they are two of a kind. Instead she's become the nursemaid all a flutter about her 26th wedding. Not sure how Tara loses any say or rights to her son because she was arrested. Has this been addressed? Phyllis' pity party over her dodder is ridiculous. Of course, any parent would be sad their child left town, but Summer has her man and her job, just as Phyllis does. Besides as everyone is fabulously wealthy a trip on a private jet to Milan every few months shouldn't be a problem. Like it when Phyllis dismissed Daniel's existence - 'I hardly see him'- as though that was enough. Trouble is I think we're supposed to sympathize with her...
