  1. Question- When Chance and Abby were having their convo re Dabby sex, where were they supposed to be? I assume the Chancellor estate-is this the new living room? Have they done a Newman Ranch revamp and introduced a new room? Hopefully no, as even the faux Chancellor set had some connection to the iconic original. What's nexr-the Abbotts start hanging out in a never before seen room?
  2. As The World Turns Dr. Susan Burke Stewart Baxter McDermott Decker Judith Barcroft 1978 (Temporary) August/September
  3. DC-reading your detailed analysis of Loving's various eras, makes me think of Search for Tomorrow throughout the 80's. Both shows had multiple writing/producing teams who altered the focus of the show, re-imagined characters they kept on the canvas while dropping/adding others regularly - and trying to compete with the 60 min soaps. The results were a mishmash which kept viewers unsettled as you never knew exactly what was to come up. Really, they needed a team that went back to the core as well as working with who was on the canvas than thinking a bunch of new stories and characters would turn the show around.
  4. Awww... Rosalie looked a little overwhelmed. Why do I get the feeling that 30 seconds after she left the stage she was forgotten? And there was Peter Taylor in the black turtleneck! Was Craig Huebing gifted it when Peter was killed?
  5. Harrison got a bedroom in the Abbott house for storytime! It's crazy-all they need is 2 walls, a bed, some decor and good camera angles. They need to check out 60's soaps to see how it's done.,.. Re Gibson and Wang, they are both perfectly adequate in their roles and important members of core families as well as adding needed diversity. Was there a longterm story in place when they were introduced? Or does Josh just write a few weeks ahead.? They join Scott, Fen, Ana, Faith, Moses, Charlie, Mattie in the missing children of GC club.
  6. I didn't mind the Anniversary tribute. It wasn't a landmark anni so that little tribute was enough for me. It would have been all the better if Maree Cheathem was there, Days only original Horton. . Had Marie been included over the years she could have been in town and having lunch with Doug and Julie when the shoplifting thing happened and she could have recalled it as she was actually there.
  7. Found 2 more writers for Y&R whose names I don't recall seeing before. Mark Waxman From his bio After graduating UCLA with a BA and MFA in Cinema (and being captain of the varsity fencing team), I joined CBS, becoming the youngest network programming executive in the history of broadcasting. After several years of developing prime time comedy and drama series for CBS, I rose to the rank of Vice President of Children’s Programming. During that time, I also wrote scripts for the daytime drama, The Young and the Restless. Jim Inman From his obit In Hollywood, Jim had a featured role in Frank Sinatra's "The Detective" (1968) before becoming a playwright and screenwriter. He wrote for "Dark Shadows", "The Young and the Restless", "Dallas", "Romance Theatre" and several "After School Specials", two of which were nominated for Daytime Emmy awards. A newspaper article mentions them as writers in July 1980 along with Bell, Alden and Smith.
  8. Have they finally put Victor out to pasture?
  9. Peyton Place By BARBARA RUSH July 1968 EDITOR'S NOTE—Life in ABC's Peyton Place may be a long series of tribulations, not to mention murder trials, that would break the strongest mind. But for one performer paid to suffer professionally, ABC's evening serial i« a dream job. Barbara Rush, who recently joined the cast, tells about it. Peyton Place comes as close to being an actor's paradise as can be found in television. There are a few drawbacks—a lack of travel for location filming and the fact that you won't achieve the fantastic fame that a hit motion picture can bring—but there are other compensations. Few shows on television, aside from anthology dramas, have strong acting scenes. By that I mean most teleplays are all plot and there is not enough face-to-face dialogue between the characters. Peyton Place is thought of as being an intricately plotted show, and in many ways it is, but the characters talk to each other more than is possible on the action- adventure programs. With a continuing drama too, there is greater opportunity for actors and actresses to help develop tine character of the part they are playing. It is not like a play where you interpret just what the author has written. You find that you are putting something of yourself into the role. There is a lot more of me in the Marsha Russell part than I ever thought there would be. One of the reasons for this is that the actors confer with the writers of the show on the parts they are playing. As a consequence, I em playing Marsha more strongly than the writers originally intended. If I disagree with the writers on some point, we discuss it. I don't always win my point, but if I don't, at least I know why a scene is written the way it is for me to play. The hours I work have been heaven for me, but I don't know whether they would suit all actresses. I work three days a week, and sometimes only two because there is a large cast. This gives me time to be with my family and to take care of other things I want to do. I have turned down two offers to do pictures during the summer hiatus the company will take because I don't want to work any harder. The repertory theater character of the show is invaluable for the young actors and Peyton Place has helped develop a lot of good young talent such as Mia Farrow and Leigh Taylor- Young. There is time for the fine directors on the show to correct mistakes and to give them some help, which is not always true on daytime television serials. Actors also have an instant showcase for their talents in the living rooms of many of the top producers and directors in Hollywood who watch the show, looking for new faces and ability.
  10. Larry Rosenthal an Emmy award winning composer was responsible for the score of Best of Everything. The show did not use organ music which was still prevalent on most soaps of the time. Another example of the high production values the show appeared to have.
  11. The Brighter Day Lt. George Patterson Robert Rockwell beginning June 1962 investigated Ted Billings' death Marcia Blakesley blind actress appeared Oct 24 and 25 1961.
  12. The Doctors Jeannie Loring Astride Lance 1966
  13. June 7 1961 All but three current cast members of CBS -TV's Brighter Day daytime serial will be written out of the story between now and June 26 when the program moves from New York to Hollywood. Remaining are Blair Davies, Mona Bruns and Eva Soreny. That seems odd that Eva Soreny was one of the three- I guess she was happy to relocate. So who was left behind and who was recast?
  14. Secret Storm Paul Britton...Nicholas Coster...64, 68-69.College Professor, married Terri, Amy,& Belle ...Jed Allan...64-65 A February 1966 article on Jed Allan says he is currently playing Paul on SS, so the role must have extended into 66.
  15. December 2 1954 A newcomer to television, pretty Patti Bosworth, has her first dramatic role,. as 18 year old Cindy Clayton on NBC's new daytime serial Concerning Miss Marlowe (3:45-400 pm EST Monday through Friday) which stars Hoilywood's Louise Allbritton as Maggie Marlowe. Patti, who actually is 18, is a professional model (with Powers and more recently with Hartford) who displays college girl fashions in most of the leading magazines in the country, and not only looks the part, but is a college girl in real life attending Sarah Lawrence College in New York City. Although her theater experience is short, her acting talent evidently is not, for she played the lead in such summer productions.as, Ah Wilderness, Barrett's of Wimpole Street and Liliiom at at the Berkshire Playhouse in Massachusetts. Her television appearances up to now have been limited to live and filmed commercials.
  16. August 19 1962 Rex Ingram. Negro actor, has been assigned to a continuing role on The Brighter Day a daytime serial on CBS.-TV* seen here. The story line of the serial revolves around the home life of a chaplain in a small Midwestern college town. Leonard Blair, producer of The Brighter Day,said Mr. In- gram would portray an ordained minister who is forced to take an outside job because his church cannot pay him a living wage. In the job he helps to manage a hardware store. Mr. Ingram will join the cast on Sept. 17
  17. Andirondack Daily Enterprise March 29 1963 Jock Gaynor, NBC new candidate for matinee idol is fair haired young actor who starting Monday will be playing an intense, dedicated young surgeon about 30 years old. • If this sounds like a character out of a night-time television program on a rival network, the resemblance is not entirely accidental. The epidemic of medical anthologies,as these hospital based programs are called, is now spreading into the daytime schedules. Gaynor's The Doctors is just one of two starting next week. Everybody concerned insists The Doctors' is not a soap opera,in the traditional sense. That is mainly because each half-hour show will be a complete story— and does not^have organ music. The Doctors carefully has covered all explored bases. Gaynor will be the surgeon; Richard Roat will be a specialist in internal medicine, and instead of a nurse there will be a pretty pediatric specialist. Instead of a wise psychiatrist, there will be the hospital chaplain. Gaynor, who says most of his previous television and motion pic- ture experience has been devoted to playing bad Indians and good white men in Westerns, is now taking surgery lessons. His first case on Monday, will be a little girl with a hernia. And from there the show will delve into all areas of physical and emotional distress on a one- a-day basis.
  18. Thanks Jason. Your dedication to Days is amazing! Here's an article from 1968. I wonder how long Days stayed off the air? Adirondack Daily Enterprise April 30 1968 SOAP OPERA FANS PHOENIX, Ariz. Arizona's decision to remain on standard time this summer has caused one major 'addition to the format'of a Phoenix television news broadcast—the soap opera report. Officials at KTAR-TV say the switch to daylight time in most of the nation led to rejuggling of schedules, eliminating the NBC serial Days of our lives from the stations lineup. To provide some relief for the loyal fans who called to protest, the station expanded its evening news to include a report of the days events
  19. Dixon was probably on from time to time and at one point Basil wasn't available so they recast.
  20. Basil Langton A newspaper article from October 1959 mentions he appears in LOL so either Dixon appeared earlier or he had another role. Also he was married to Nancy Wickwire.
  21. Kate Linder's 'contract' must guarantee 2 appearances a year. Isn't there something re insurance that actors have to have a certain number of gigs to maintain their benefits? If so, I think must be the case with Kate. The thing is Esther could be used more. She should never have left the Chancellor Estate for a start.
  22. Paul Ford Light of the World 1943
  23. Characters are made to look ridiculous in prioritizing petty grievances and hypocritical stances. And paying one bit of attention to anything the likes of Phyllis has to say.
  24. Was Christian Le Blanc also made recurring at this time? Paul was tricky to write for because of Lauralee Bell's absences. Getting rid of the police set didn't help. But they could have done a mini thing with Lauren where Paul is resentful of Christine's work absences and Lauren lends a friendly ear. With Michael also out of town they have dinner together and reminisce - cue flashbacks. The evening ends with a quick kiss that turns more passionate. They have to deal with that - just something that could be woven into the story over a few weeks.
  25. Well naturally if you were a fan, you would like to see him back. i'm no great fan of Paul but he was the longest running actor on the showwhich should count for something. He agreed to go recurring but was hardly used. When he responded to a tweet, saying he had no appearances coming up everything came out into the open. EB complaibed about it and then Paul returned , but once again he was dropped. He did feel he was badly treated and said so. Maybe not the best move but he had a point. Paul had been marginalized but he could stilll be used in police matters.
