Racism and racial representation on soaps
Taylor the Desert Princess (B&B) was somewhat offensive and it would not work today. The recasting of Y&R's Keesha from an actress of Puerto Rican heritage to an actress of Italian heritage. Keesha's race was never stated but it was implied that she was African-American.

Y&R to air classic episodes
Prior to the 1991 return, Dina was last seen around 1985 or 1986, so the 1991 return was her first interactions with the recast Jill, Ashley, Jack, Mamie.

Y&R: Old Articles
I wonder why EB wouldn't submit his name for the Lead Actor Emmy. I don't remember him mentioning much about the Emmys in his book. 1998 was his 5th nomination and I was getting scared that he was approaching Susan Lucci losing streak territory. EB didn't get a People cover story when his streak was over though. You should get a medal 🤗 The 1992 episode has a Nikki/Katherine scene, so MTS must have squashed her beef w/ JC by then. From what I could tell based on what was onscreen and what I've read, the MTS/JC beef was from 1990-1992.

Y&R to air classic episodes
Peter Bergman got his second Lead Actor Emmy for the substance abuse story whereas Melody Thomas Scott didn't even get nominated for Lead Actress. MTS's best scene during the substance abuse story was when Nikki was getting dressed and her hands were shaking when she was putting on her makeup.

Did the Santa Barbara writers throw a bunch of Middle Eastern names at a wall and picked the ones that stuck?

Have you come across any Buffalo/Niagara Falls listings? I'm curious to know if viewers there could get Global Toronto. Thanks in advance

Ratings From the 90's
@Soapsuds It was mentioned in the Y&R Classics thread that there was a week in June 1997 where Days was only 0.3 behind Y&R. Do you have the ratings for that month?

Y&R to air classic episodes
Anything 2006 onward are not classics.

Y&R to air classic episodes
One of the worst things Y&R did was fire Jerry Douglas and kill off John Abbott. He really was the heart of the family.

Y&R to air classic episodes
Wasn't a yacht explosion the finale of The Edge of Night's CBS run? Maybe CBS/Y&R thought that 30 years later nobody would notice.

Michael Scott was a photographer that was attracted to Julia, who was working as a model. Victor thought Julia was cheating on him with Michael. Victor kidnapped Michael and locked him in the dungeon.

Ratings From the 90's
@Soapsuds Thanks for posting these 1990s rankings. We'll get to see how much the ratings dropped due to OJ and how close James Reilly's sci-fi Days came to Y&R during summer 1997.

Y&R to air classic episodes
Lisa with the long hair was Brad's first wife. I remember the Brad in a cage story. That was the type of story one would expect to see on Days or Passions, not Y&R.

Ratings From the 90's
By 1990, B&B had more affiliate clearance than it did from 1987-1989 so I would imagine the Y&R viewers carried over. Plus by 1990, Bill Bell figured out which characters were working and which weren't, ie. the Spectra gang became prominent while the Logan family was phased out.

B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
Monday February 19, 1990 was President's Day and CBS aired a NBA regular season game that afternoon. CBS had the broadcasting rights for NBA from 1973-1990. CBS Sports pre-emptions for B&B AFAIK were US Open (1987-2014), NBA regular season games (President's Day 1989, President's Day 1990), March Madness (1991-2019), Winter Olympics (1992, 1994, 1998).

I think Lauren's 1984 stories were her singing career, the marriage to Paul, and the arrival of her mother JoAnna. 1985 was the second of Terry Lester's four consecutive nominations for Lead Actor. Sadly Terry never got a Lead Actor win, but if you look at the 1984-1987 Lead Actor races, the competition those years was tough.

Ratings From the 90's
Y&R's big 1991 stories were Nikki's substance abuse, the baby switch, and David Kimble. I don't remember too much about B&B that year, except the Logans were pretty much all gone and replaced by the Spectra gang, Stephanie's stroke and homelessness, and Caroline's twin Karen was introduced. 1991 was a transition year for GL as there was a head writer change, big cast changes, and an EP change but it was still enjoyable; highlight was Alexandra/Roger at the country club in July.

Y&R to air classic episodes
Wasn't the Gina's set originally Pierre's Restaurant/The Allegro/Jonas' Restaurant? So it would have been over 30 years old at the time of the fire storyline. Maybe the set was retired due to age/budget. Once the Genoa City Athletic Club came on, we saw a lot less of the other 1980s/1990s restaurant sets: The Colonnade Room, The Embers, The Lodge, Top of the Tower. I think it was 2000 or 2001 that a John/Gina pairing was being set up but nothing came of it from what I remember.
