  1. It's funny that Robert Clary played characters named Pierre on both Y&R and B&B.
  2. Rick Hearst was about 10 years too old to be Matt Clark. He should've been brought on as a new executive at Jabot or Newman, that might have suited him better. The original Billy/Mac story was good but got ruined by recasts. Any idea of what next week's classics are? Global has no episode numbers on their site so far.
  3. I remember reading somewhere that B&B took off in almost all of Europe whereas the only European country Y&R became a big hit in was France. As far as other countries where both were exported, I've also read Y&R was bigger in Israel and Turkey, and both were big in Australia. Bradley Bell was in charge by the time of the Catalina Island crossover (fall 1993). The first rumors of 1 hour expansion were in late 1994/early 1995; Lauren moved to B&B in the fall of 1995.
  4. @soapfan770 Add Detective Wallace to the list as I forgot him. I think Detective Webber was on for about 2 or 3 years but I don't remember any storylines for him outside police work.
  5. @Faulkner@soapfan770 Wesley, Damon, Detective Webber, Mason, Tyler, Jordan, Nate. I think that covers all the attempts to replace Shemar. I don't count Eddie Winslow.
  6. Keith Hamilton Cobb was another epic fail attempt to replace Shemar. Clones can't beat the original.
  7. Of course Shemar just happened to be changing clothes on this episode. I swear every week during Shemar's first three years, there was a scene of him either working out without a shirt on or changing clothes 🤣
  8. You're welcome Taoboi. Only one 1990s episode next week
  9. You're welcome Vee. It seems odd that CBS would air the same episode a month apart. We'll know for sure when CBS releases next week's schedule.

  11. Nikki also made reference to the 1981 episode we saw in May where Victor pretended to be the man servant.
  12. In this era of TikTok and Spotify, is the Billboard Hot 100 even relevant anymore?
  13. Fall 1994 through to the beginning of 1996 was when Nick and Sharon ate the show. I remember JC ranting to the soap press in that period about her lack of story, the focus on the younger cast members, and the male backside scenes. If I only I could find her interviews from that period.
  14. There was the courthouse fight with Jill during the John/Jill divorce and custody battle.
  15. Was Y&R head-to-head with Oprah and/or Days in Seattle at that time? I don't think Y&R was attracting the kids after school in 1995-1997 as that was the height of Reilly Sci-Fi Days. Imagine if a city had a 4 pm/3 pm head-to-head lineup of Y&R, Days, Oprah. Edited to add: I found another 1980s listing for Seattle. Monday June 27, 1988 KIRO (CBS) 11 am Y&R Noon News 1 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light As we already know, no B&B. KOMO (ABC) 11 am Ryan's Hope 11:30 am Loving Noon All My Children 1 pm One Life to Live 2 pm General Hospital KING (NBC) 1 pm Another World 2 pm Santa Barbara 3 pm Days So sometime between June 1986 and June 1988, Days moved from Noon to 3 pm. It was still the supercouple era so lots of kids must have been watching after school. It's possible the 3 pm airing might have gone on through to the Reilly sci-fi years. Another edit: I suspected Portland, OR was another Northwest city that didn't carry B&B from the beginning and I found two listings that confirm that suspicion. Wednesday September 13, 1989 KOIN (CBS) 11 am Y&R Noon News 1 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light KATU (ABC) 11:30 am Loving Noon Live with Regis and Kathie Lee 1 pm One Life to Live 2 pm General Hospital 3 pm All My Children KGW (NBC) 12:30 pm Generations 1 pm Another World 2 pm Santa Barbara 3 pm Days Tuesday December 21, 1999 KOIN (CBS) 11 am Y&R Noon News 12:30 pm Extra! 1 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light KATU (ABC) 12:30 pm Port Charles 1 pm One Life to Live 2 pm General Hospital 3 pm All My Children KGW (NBC) 1 pm Sunset Beach 2 pm Passions 3 pm Days
  16. @soapfan770 So B&B from 1987-1994 was too scandalous and shocking but the rest of the CBS lineup wasn't? B&B was exported to countries that many would think are religious/conservative (ie. Israel, Egypt, Turkey, India). IMO KIRO just didn't want to give up their 1 hour noon news. Given what we know about ABC Daytime being big in the Northeast and West Coast, Seattle probably fits more as an ABC town anyway.
  17. I finally came across another 1980s Seattle listing. Friday June 27, 1986 KIRO (CBS) 11 am Y&R Noon News 1 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light An earlier post in this thread had Search for Tomorrow airing in Seattle in 1981. With no Capitol airing in Seattle in 1986 and B&B not airing in Seattle until 1994, it seems more likely that KIRO had a 1 hour Noon News from 1982-1994. KOMO (ABC) 11 am Ryan's Hope 11:30 am Loving Noon All My Children 1 pm One Life to Live 2 pm General Hospital KING (NBC) Noon Days 1 pm Another World 2 pm Santa Barbara With no Search for Tomorrow airing in Seattle in 1986, it either disappeared from Seattle TV after the CBS cancellation or the NBC affiliate aired it then dropped it.
  18. @soapfan770 It looks like CBS allowed two different February 4, 1980-June 5, 1981 schedules for their Central/Mountain/Pacific affiliates. As we all know, ABC had a huge rise in the late 1970s and that seemed to really shake up CBS, thus the time slot changes in 1980 and 1981. I found this official CBS schedule for April 23, 1979-February 1, 1980. 11 am ET/10 am CT, MT, PT The Price is Right Noon ET/11 am CT, MT, PT Y&R 12:30 pm ET/11:30 am CT, MT, PT Search for Tomorrow 1 pm ET/Noon CT, MT, PT Local Programming 1:30 pm ET/12:30 pm CT, MT, PT As the World Turns 2:30 ET/1:30 pm CT, MT, PT Guiding Light 3:30 pm ET/2:30 pm CT, MT, PT M*A*S*H reruns 4 pm ET/3 pm CT, MT, PT Love of Life It seems silly to me that CBS separated Love of Life from the rest of the daytime drama block unless it was done purposely to tank the show. CBS's ratings for 1979/1980 were Y&R 8.8 (3rd), Guiding Light 8.3 (5th), As the World Turns 7.9 (6th), Search for Tomorrow 7.6 (7th), Love of Life 3.5 (13th); General Hospital and All My Children were the top 2 and One Life to Live was 4th. The early 1980s were not too kind to CBS ratings-wise. 1980/1981: Guiding Light 8.2 (4th), As the World Turns 7.9 (5th), Y&R 7.8 (6th), Search for Tomorrow 6.3 (8th). ABC's big three General Hospital, All My Children, One Life to Live were the top 3 and Ryan's Hope was 7th. Guiding Light and As the World Turns kept close to the same number but Y&R and Search for Tomorrow had big drops. 1981/1982: Guiding Light 8.0 (4th), Y&R 7.4 (5th), As the World Turns 7.4 (5th), Search for Tomorrow 6.8 (8th), Capitol 5.8 (9th). ABC's big three General Hospital, All My Children, One Life to Live were the top 3 and Ryan's Hope was 7th. Y&R dropped for the second straight season, As the World Turns dropped a little, Search for Tomorrow increased but CBS still ended it, and Guiding Light kept close to the same number. 1982/1983: Y&R 8.0 (4th), As the World Turns 7.6 (5th), Guiding Light 7.4 (6th), Capitol 6.0 (7th). Y&R has a big increase and becomes CBS's #1 daytime drama, As the World Turns goes up a little, Guiding Light has a big drop. ABC's big three General Hospital, All My Children, One Life to Live were the top 3 . During the rest of the 1980s Y&R would topple the ABC big three one-by-one, eventually reaching #1 overall in 1988/1989.
  19. Every year EB was nominated (1987, 1990, 1996-2000, 2004) the Lead Actor races were tough. Yes he should've won more Emmys than the one he has.
  20. PB's clip on the 1992 Daytime Emmy broadcast was a scene in the ranch living room where Jack yells at Nikki about her drinking. I'm still not riveted. Yes, both 1991 and 1992 Lead Actor races were weak.
  21. I wasn't riveted by the Jack scenes in today's show. Like I said before, PB's first two Emmy wins were the result of IMO weak competition in the Lead Actor races. Dina later gets exposed for lying about an illness when she was really broke but she would return in 1996 as we saw during the Nick/Sharon wedding repeat. I remember her 1996 return there was a rewrite that she left because John's secretary made Dina believe John was cheating on Dina with the secretary. I wonder if the 1994 episodes will cut scenes from the Vietnam story. That also went against previously established history. From what I remember of the Vietnam story, Jack mentioned he was 20 years old in 1972 when he left Vietnam. When Dina arrived in 1983, it was mentioned she abandoned the family 12 years earlier. Putting together the established history and rewrite, Jack would've have been in Vietnam when Dina abandoned the family.
  22. @soapfan770I might be wrong on the February 4, 1980-June 5, 1981 official schedule for Central/Mountain/Pacific as I found two conflicting CBS affiliate lineups from some research. KMGH (Denver), Monday April 7, 1980 11:30 am Search for Tomorrow Noon Y&R 1 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light KREM (Spokane, WA), Tuesday April 29, 1980 11 am Y&R 12:30 pm Search for Tomorrow 1 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light If I was able to find more listings I could get a better idea as to what the February 4, 1980-June 5, 1981 official schedule for Central/Mountain/Pacific actually was.
  23. That was all around the same time, 1995/1996.
