In the 1990s B&B really pushed the envelope moreso than Y&R when it came to love scenes. Some of them looked like they belonged in the type of movies that aired on cable during the wee hours.

@Vee In the Ava Gardner episodes, there are great scenes where Laura calls out Ruth and puts her on blast.

Knots Landing isn't the type of soap we'd expect to see a messy wealthy matriarch but Ava Gardner as Ruth Galveston was everything. It's so funny that she preferred villainess Abby over the more virtuous Laura as the ideal mate for Greg.

@Faulkner Days is an interesting case study in soaps. Started out as a Bill Bell show but it's best known for the supercouple years and Reilly sci-fi years.

We often point out the similarities between the early years of B&B and 1970s Y&R but how about similarities between the early years of B&B and Y&R at around the same time? It was mentioned earlier in the thread that Katie being the shy insecure sister because of her acne was similar to Traci being the shy insecure sister because of her weight. Another comparison I thought of could be Caroline/Brooke rivalry similar to Ashley/Nikki rivalry. Caroline/Ashley, both from wealthy families. Brooke/Nikki, both from working class backgrounds. Some differences though. Caroline was a clear-cut heroine but Ashley (at least ED's 1982-1988 version) wasn't, and Brooke was a clear-cut vixen but Nikki wasn't. Also Caroline to me didn't initially come across as goal oriented the way Ashley initially was and I felt Brooke was always on the lookout for a come up more so than Nikki was (and oddly enough Nikki got the come up with her marriage to Victor).

Probably sometime next spring, after the 60th anniversary.

Queen Elizabeth passes away almost 1 1/2 years after Prince Phillip's death and in the year that marks the 70th anniversary of her ascension to the throne after the death of her father King George, the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana's death, and the 20th anniversary of Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother's deaths. King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla, I cannot wrap my head around that.

@YRfan23 That's because inconsistent SORASing messed up the timelines so we didn't get viable generations of high school/college/early career in the 1990s/2000s/2010s/today.

Also Knots Landing season 12-14 overlapped w/ season 1-3 of Beverly Hills 90210. Dallas final season overlapped w/ season 1 of Beverly Hills 90210. Knots Landing final season overlapped w/ season 1 of Melrose Place. Funny how the final seasons of the first 1980s primetime soap and its spinoff (technically both premiered in the late 1970s but they are mostly associated w/ the 1980s) overlap w/ the first seasons of the first 1990s primetime soap and its spinoff.

If we're keeping it real here, NBC has not been successful in daytime for the better part of the last 45 years. I'm not surprised at all that they are the first network to have all their soaps come to an end. It's quite telling that their longest-lasting soap lineup in the last 45 years has been Days nearly 15 year period as NBC's sole soap.

@Chris B Season 7 is also when LML shows up in the writer credits and we all know the damage she did to Y&R two decades later.

Fall 1982 to Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps and in that era, Knots Landing set itself apart from the others with high emotional stakes character driven storytelling. @Vee season 4 and 5 recaps really highlight that element.

I'm thinking the next entry on this list from Bill Bell Days that later worked w/ him again would be Susan Seaforth Hayes and the next entry on this list that went from Y&R to Reilly Days would be Lauren Koslow.

@will81 @Paul Raven Bill Bell lost interest in Nathan when Shemar Moore blew up in popularity.

For whatever reason Bill Bell didn't explore Kristen/Felicia sister relationship. I could see them fighting over Clarke. I remember Felicia having some flirtation with Clarke but it ended up not going anywhere. The writer's strike was over and Sally arrived. That's when B&B really hit its stride.
