Usher!! Be still my heart
I saw the Bob Barker episode online years ago so I'm skipping that. The others I don't care to see.

It was the CBS game show block that lead me to their daytime dramas. My first favorite daytime program was The Price is Right and then I got into the rest of the CBS game show block. During the game shows I'd see promos for the daytime dramas and whenever I thought the promo looked good I'd start watching the daytime drama.

I haven't watched the Daytime Emmys since 2011. I just followed the discussions here all the years since. They were so much more fun than watching the actual ceremony

Keith Hamilton Cobb was cast on AMC around the same time Shemar was cast on Y&R, wasn't he? I think he probably took off with viewers a little earlier as Y&R had that bizarre cold medicine sex story with Malcolm and Dru.
From what I could find online, Keith Hamilton Cobb was cast on All My Children in the summer of 1994, so shortly after Shemar started on Y&R.

Side note: I don't know why they didn't at least try to make Jonah Carver DAYS' version of Shemar. He certainly had the looks, IMO.
Shemar had two clones as his mid-1990s time slot competitors, Keith Hamilton Cobb and Thyme Lewis. 1995 SOD Awards Best Male Newcomer went to Keith Hamilton Cobb and not Shemar. Seriously SOD readers, you picked a Shemar clone over the real thing? Oddly enough Y&R hired Keith Hamilton Cobb without his dreadlocks in their second attempt to replace Shemar (the first was that doctor Wesley).

And once again EB keeps it way too real and I love it

@BoldRestless @YRfan23 Besides the Masquerade Ball, the rest of the villain selections are not interesting.
In a way, maybe it's good that they're not dipping into the 1980s/1990s as much as those episodes would be butchered for commercial time.

When did Mamie and Jill have an actual cat fight? I always remember their altercations being more verbal than physical, but still highly enjoyable.
I don't remember Jill and Mamie getting in a physical fight, only verbal altercations. I remember Jill and Katherine having their courthouse catfight in 1995.

Justin Bieber now has 6 Billboard Hot 100 #1s. He has more #1s than Prince. Think about that for a second.

Shemar was nominated for Hottest Male Star at the 1998 and 1999 SOD awards and lost to Ingo Rademacher in 1998 and Steve Burton in 1999. WTF? No way were those guys hotter than Shemar.

I feel like y&r was already a popular platform alone over the years but when shemar came into town he added the male african American spice that the show needed, even though neil and Nathan were already there i just think Malcolm was that character they could play around with and probably would have had great chemistry with everyone he interacted with.
I would guess Y&R's Black audience first came on board in the mid-1980s during the Jazz/Tyrone/Amy/Nathan era, then the Black audience was really cemented when Shemar arrived.
Bill Bell used elements of the Jackson brothers 10 years later with the Winters brothers. Jazz and Tyrone's first scenes together are quite similar to Malcolm and Neil's first scenes together.

Thorsten Kaye will never be Ridge.
Did you have other ideas for a Ridge recast or should the character have remained off the canvas? Some names I read thrown around online were Peter Reckell and J. Eddie Peck, but who knows whether Bradley Bell approached either of them.
2 hours ago, Gray Bunny said:I liked the Stephanie/Ridge scenes because at the time, it was the first go-around of swapping partners and people marrying daddy figures and whatnot, which would go on to become a B&B staple, but at the beginning it was escandalo!
Bill Bell already had a father/son triangle on Y&R w/ Jill/John/Jack so Brooke/Eric/Ridge wasn't that scandalous or shocking.

He was a terrible actor. Probably one of the worst but he is Ridge.....
Agree. I thought RM's acting got progressively worse as the 1990s went on.

@Soapsuds Are you a fan of Ronn Moss?

Shemar wasn't the best actor when he started but damn he was hot AF
. No wonder he got shirtless scenes every week during his first three years
Once Shemar arrived, he overshadowed every other daytime drama's Black male cast members, and all the Black male actors that the other daytime dramas hired afterwards. Even Y&R has tried to clone Shemar over the last two decades but those attempts have been an epic failure.

I feel like I’m forgetting someone.
Also on Y&R, Tyrone and Jazz.
Having seen some of Dru's early episodes again, I remember how shocked I was to find out that Victoria Rowell was almost 31 years old when she started on Y&R. I think Dru was introduced as a 19 or 20 year old that ran away from home as a young teen.

Aww, Dru and Neil are so young and cute here.
Tomorrow is Shemar's first episode

Here’s an interview where they discuss their time on the show and working with Victoria, Shemar and Kristoff. Christel’s favorite episodes were Dru and Neil’s Japan wedding and when Daniel and Lily were on the run. I found it hilarious that she never mentioned Cane lol. She even had lots of praise for VR which surprised me considering they did have issues, but DG? Nope lol.
I'm surprised that CK said positive things about VR. Perhaps their beef has been squashed.

Remember Shemar's 2014 return where Malcolm acted like he was gone for 10 years? It was an attempt to wipe out the Eddie Winslow years.

As much as Michael Zaslow was underappreciated aside from his much-deserved win, Beverlee McKinsey was not once even nominated for playing Alex after being nominated four times in a row for playing Iris on AW. Talk about absurdity. Friggin’ Marj got nominated for playing Alex.
I guess they put all their eggs in the Kim Zimmer basket, which paid off with three Emmys from 1985-90.
35 minutes ago, BetterForgotten said:I think Bev mentioned she stopped putting herself up for consideration after her losses at AW. She definitely should have been nominated and won for her work in the early 90's.
Maureen Garrett also not having one is a great travesty.
Beverlee McKinsey not getting a Lead Actress nomination for GL is the most egregious error by the Daytime Emmys. She could've easily won in 1991, 1992, 1993 as the Lead Actress races in those years were rather weak. Maureen Garrett was nominated for Supporting Actress in 1991, 1992, 1994 but the competition for Supporting Actress in those years was tough.

For all those who once complained about Brad taking his shirt off in the opening credits nobody complained when Ryan & Malcolm did it lol.
Ryan and Malcolm had shirtless shots in the closing credits I think. Brad taking his shirt off in the 1988 opening was cheesy though.

Do not care to see Brooke being the Forrester family mattress. I'm waiting for a best of Queen Stephanie week and a best of Sally Spectra week.

Forget everyone else, the second half of the 1990s and early 2000s was all about Shemar. No matter how much Y&R tried to make them happen, the others of that era couldn't hold a candle to the hotness of Shemar.

2020 Daytime Emmy Nominees Announced
in Daytime Emmy Awards
Posted · Edited by kalbir
This sad sack of nominations are basically competing for participation ribbons.
If the winner in the Younger category is born in the 2000s, then I'll feel really old
In all seriousness, the Younger category should be scrapped. Look at the Daytime Emmy acting winners that were born in the 1980s and 1990s. That's proof to me as to how far the talent pool has dropped in the last 25 years.
