I think the Tad/Ted story as a whole wasn't looked upon favorably by anyone. Didn't Tad and Ted share similar memories of Ray Gardner (or someone wearing a gold watch) locking them inside the trunk of a car? What was that? What were Megan McTavish and her writers trying to say (since they seemed to make a point of saying the two were not related)? Either there was a point to it all and the show changed their minds or they deliberately muddled everything in order to keep up the mystery. Add to that Ted Orsini's basically skeevy disposition (er, what disposition that was there, I don't think there was much to Ted beyond being some ridiculous plot device) and the whole thing was bound to flop.

Here's another: "...the cast and drama metastasized...". "Metastasize," as defined by Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, is: Going further: "metastasis" is: Now, you could argue this writer meant the first definition. However, when you use a word such as "metastasize," you cannot help but conjure images of cancer in the minds of your readership. Again, I'm just saying.

"Four decades of ridiculous melodrama"..."America's most histrionic soap opera"..."a high-minded interest in social issues" (added w/ "But they always saved time for ghosts"). These are not necessarily words I would use in a tribute piece to a groundbreaking daytime drama. I'm just saying.

In a way, SEARCH's earliest days remind me of today's websoaps: small cast, bare-bones budget and production values, but the potential for simple, human drama that can take the genre of serialized storytelling to the next level.

For one thing, I think SEARCH would have added an African-American family to its canvas. There seemed to be a push on the part of CBS to have greater focus on minorities on all their soaps in the mid- and late-1980's.

LOL! You know what I think? I think I would have had Jason Maxwell "discover" Jeff and persuade him to sign on with his agency. (Yes, they had male models back then; and I could see modeling agents and ad executives jumping on Dr. Jeff's wholesome good looks in order to sell products like cologne and underwear.) To Jeff, Jason would argue that being in the same industry as Erica would help solidify their shaky marriage. In reality, though, separating the Martins would be his actual goal...especially when Jeff's career takes off while Erica's stalls (thanks to Jason), leaving Erica feeling very, very jealous.
