  1. I think the Tad/Ted story as a whole wasn't looked upon favorably by anyone. Didn't Tad and Ted share similar memories of Ray Gardner (or someone wearing a gold watch) locking them inside the trunk of a car? What was that? What were Megan McTavish and her writers trying to say (since they seemed to make a point of saying the two were not related)? Either there was a point to it all and the show changed their minds or they deliberately muddled everything in order to keep up the mystery. Add to that Ted Orsini's basically skeevy disposition (er, what disposition that was there, I don't think there was much to Ted beyond being some ridiculous plot device) and the whole thing was bound to flop.
  2. Kelly Ripa has a penis? I had no idea.
  3. Knowing NBC, they probably junked it the moment they found it.
  4. Here's another: "...the cast and drama metastasized...". "Metastasize," as defined by Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, is: Going further: "metastasis" is: Now, you could argue this writer meant the first definition. However, when you use a word such as "metastasize," you cannot help but conjure images of cancer in the minds of your readership. Again, I'm just saying.
  5. "Four decades of ridiculous melodrama"..."America's most histrionic soap opera"..."a high-minded interest in social issues" (added w/ "But they always saved time for ghosts"). These are not necessarily words I would use in a tribute piece to a groundbreaking daytime drama. I'm just saying.
  6. Why do I feel as if New York magazine, which published that timeline, is being dismissive of the show?
  7. "When Joel needs the quiet and peace that excludes even the activities of physical exercise, he retreats to his country house in upstate New York where he spends hours in front of the fire sometimes in the company of his girlfriend reading a favorite novel or catching up on the latest journals and magazines."
  8. Amen. [Pipe dream]I hope PP brings it (and the photo album) back in an updated form, since it's probably much cheaper than the current opening.[/Pipe dream]
  9. Thanks to the Tess retcon, she probably was acting out.
  10. I get Joel Crothers being photographed half-naked. But must they run that ridiculous title -- "ANYTHING WORTH DOING IS WORTH DOING HARD!" -- underneath? Even for the porn-loving '70's, that's a bit much.
  11. In her new memoir, I'm Just Sayin', KZ admits she wouldn't have worn her hair that way had she known she was going to win.
  12. I don't. To me, it never made sense for Natalie's son to grow up in P.V. and yet have a Jersey accent.
  13. In a way, SEARCH's earliest days remind me of today's websoaps: small cast, bare-bones budget and production values, but the potential for simple, human drama that can take the genre of serialized storytelling to the next level.
  14. I think it's actually Sea City. Check it: Pine Valley :: Bryn Mawr :: Center City :: Philadelphia :: Sea City :: Atlantic City.
  15. No, I mean I actually remember reading the article in SOD. (Sorry if that wasn't clear.)
  16. OMG, I actually remember reading that article!
  17. You had it right the first time, Carl: it's "Willmore." Once again, though, Ellen Parker got the last laugh on everyone: she walked away with the Emmy.
  18. Imagine if Liza's son, Tourneur (sp?), had come out as a teenager?
  19. For one thing, I think SEARCH would have added an African-American family to its canvas. There seemed to be a push on the part of CBS to have greater focus on minorities on all their soaps in the mid- and late-1980's.
  20. Photo 1 First row (from left): Lewis Arlt, ?, ?, Maree Cheatham and John Cunningham Second row: Andrea McArdle, Courtney Simon and ? Third row: ? (although she probably played Suzi), Billie Lou Watt (?) and Val Dufour Fourth row: Joel Higgins and ? Photo 2 First row: Michael Nouri, Meg Bennett and ? Second row: Millee Taggart, ? (I'm talking about the kid she's holding), Peter Simon and ? Third row: Duh (LOL!) Fourth row: ? and ?
  21. Before or after David brought them back from the dead?
  22. Didn't they get married then leave town so Seth could work on his writing career?
  23. LOL! You know what I think? I think I would have had Jason Maxwell "discover" Jeff and persuade him to sign on with his agency. (Yes, they had male models back then; and I could see modeling agents and ad executives jumping on Dr. Jeff's wholesome good looks in order to sell products like cologne and underwear.) To Jeff, Jason would argue that being in the same industry as Erica would help solidify their shaky marriage. In reality, though, separating the Martins would be his actual goal...especially when Jeff's career takes off while Erica's stalls (thanks to Jason), leaving Erica feeling very, very jealous.
