  1. As John mentions upthread, John Dauer (ex-Jeremy) has resumed his acting career: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm7657426/?ref_=nmmd_md_nm He also fronts an indie band, The Ruse: http://www.rusemusic.com Thanks, Carl. I had NO idea he had elected to leave ATWT in order to attend college. I always assumed the decision had been the show's, and that letting him go had been a supreme mistake on their part. If Dauer has recommitted himself somewhat to acting, then I certainly wish him the best. Because, yes, he WAS good.
  2. Chances are, if they had brought back Jeremy for that story, they would've had him in cahoots with Nevins.
  3. Yes, Tom was older than Scott, who was supposedly born between the end of OUR PRIVATE WORLD and Lisa's return to Oakdale. (I think I've read somewhere that Marland originally wanted to bring Chuckie back from the dead (in order to give Lisa a second son to become involved with) but realized doing so would have been too far-fetched for the audience to believe. Anyway, creating Scott was his way around that dilemma.) IIRC, Jeremy was Dawn Wheeler's kid. Dawn, who had been raped by the same man who had raped Margo, died of AIDS. (Nevins had infected her with the HIV virus; and for awhile, Margo worried she might have been infected as well.) Tom and Margo became Jeremy's guardians. Under different circumstances, I feel Jeremy would have been part of the next generation of young adults in Oakdale. As it was, the head writers (Marland was gone by this point, I think) introduced him without an idea of what to do with him. After a year or so, Tom and Margo allowed him to go away to school. We didn't hear from him again.
  4. Thanks for sharing that clip, cct. Cindy's death had to have been one of the most heart-rending moments I've seen.
  5. You wanna talk about "smart tv"? THAT was "smart tv". It hurt like hell to see Robin Scorpio lose the young man who, to this day, I consider the actual love of her life. Very timely, and very heartbreaking.
  6. Agree. So was John F. Smith. But it was his time as HW that left Y&R vulnerable, IMO, to hacks like LML and MAB.
  7. If she didn't realize it after Nancy Curlee quit GL, then she never will.
  8. Actually, Lemay once said JFP was the best EP he'd worked with in terms of developing story.
  9. In any case, I think Gary Tomlin DID acknowledge that. I do give him props for looking into the show's history. He was pretty good at that. Except, I don't recall them mentioning Maria Roberts or Allison's mother, Ruth Perkins, during the Jessica/Natalie story. I realize neither engineered the kidnapping -- Ruth kept the baby Allison stole from Llanfair; Maria just exploited the crisis in order to convince everyone that Viki (or rather, Niki) was responsible, so Clint would be compelled to commit her to a sanitarium, thus clearing the way for Maria to win him back -- but I felt they should have been mentioned for some reason (and if they had been mentioned, then I must've missed it). I, too, am baffled as to why OLTL went so long without an official HW. I know Pam Long didn't work out as the network had hoped, but you mean to tell me they couldn't find anyone to replace her right away? Either no one was jumping at the chance to head-write the show, or the network was waiting until Megan McTavish (or another writer they really wanted) was available.
  10. Paul Rauch also made a concerted effort to feature AA's on ANOTHER WORLD. That was during the period when Morgan Freeman and Howard Rollins were on the show. However, from what at least one has suggested on SON, his efforts failed him there as well.
  11. I don't mind topical stories on soaps, but I think the stories have to fit the characters, and vice versa; and after all the craziness Cord and Tina had been through up to that point, it was strange to see them in a story about racism and community theater.
  12. True. I mean, there was even a week or two between Carlson/DePriest and Malone when the show had no official HW.
  13. I always assumed JFP and Megan McTavish, or whoever was writing OLTL at that point, either didn't know about the first storyline, had forgotten about it, or just plain didn't care. But, yes, they did do the same story twice. For that reason ALONE, I hated the second go-round with it. Didn't Marlena DeLaCroix mention in her old column (for SOW) how Linda Gottlieb and Michael Malone clearly meant "Incident at Loon Lake" to be an homage to the 1951 movie, "A Place in the Sun"?
  14. It's interesting to hear your memories, as I can imagine how jarring the tonal changes in the show must have been to viewers. I just remember watching every day and thinking, "Hudson (or Cain) is going away soon, right? Right? RIGHT? Wait, who is Angela Holliday?". LOL @ "Marjorie Main's evil twin." But, oh, boy, do I remember what happened to DuAnn in the barn, as well as Mama Khan's "Here we go again!" when Julia killed her and then covered her tracks. (She really came to hate OLTL, I think.)
  15. It sucked...but it wasn't surprising. Think back to the final days of ANOTHER WORLD, which Goutman also oversaw. Iris SHOULD have been part of the finale, IMO, and she wasn't. Same goes for at least a dozen other characters who had played memorable parts in the show's long history. IIRC, all we got in the end were brain-damaged Carl and a damn gorilla.
  16. For some reason, I had it in mind that you were talking about doing the ALS story in '04, when Sebastian was introduced. My bad. On the other hand, weren't James Harmon Brown and Barbara Esensten the HW's when Zaslow left? Yeah, I wouldn't have wanted them to write that kind of story either. By the end of '97/start of '98, which was the last time I watched GL on a consistent basis (meaning, an average of 4-5 times per week), I had soured on those two and their brand of storytelling.
  17. Thinking about all the havoc Christopher Goutman wreaked on this show in its final years makes my blood boil. You KNOW CBS and P&G were ready to be done with ATWT to put up with his nonsense for so long.
  18. On the one hand, "YES." But, on the other hand, with David Kreizman writing the story, and Ellen Wheeler producing it, I don't think so, lol.
  19. On the other hand, NBA, perhaps it was for the best that they DIDN'T bring back more characters from the past. When they did, like with Dusty, Craig and Paul, the characters never resembled their former selves, in appearance or in temperament.
  20. Ah, yes. "Ladykillers." I still remember when Susan Blakely's character walked in on Gary Hudson's as he was singing in the shower. His body looked good...even when the killer (Lesley Anne Down?) sliced the artery in his neck with her homemade murder weapon (razor blades on what looked like a hand) as he bending backwards onstage and letting the women rush him, stuff money down his shorts, etc....but that's about it. (For the record: I also remember Hudson in "Road House" (Patrick Swayze's character walked in on his as he was screwing some piece of white trash, I think) and as a dancer in a musical number on "The Tracey Ullman Show." Ullman was in character as Kay, I think, and he was one of the masseuses giving her a rub-down in the massage parlor as they performed "Slow Hand." I watch too much television.)
  21. Is that the same Gary Hudson who pops up all the time in Lifetime movies? If so, then I could see why he'd be miscast as Rick Ryan. He just isn't a very good actor, IMO.
  22. Nah, I couldn't have seen her as Hope. But Marcia McCabe...? Now, she I COULD have seen as Hope.
  23. I think I said on here once that I thought Julia Barr might have made a good recast for Dee Stewart.
  24. Didn't the Dobsons attempt to bring back Natalie, though? From what I have read, her return wasn't successful, so that might be why subsequent HW's steered clear.
