Why do I feel like Bill Withers should be singing "Lean on Me" right about now?

He could, and he should, but he won't. The part of this that annoys me most is all those who roll their eyes at the protestors, laugh at them and tell them to "grow up." First of all, weren't some of you prepared to mount another Ruby Ridge if Hillary had won the electoral vote? Second, even if what the protestors are doing is ridiculous, belitting their need to express themselves in this manner isn't smart. As a matter of fact, it escalates their anger.

No, I absolutely agree with you, Roman. (Sorry if that wasn't clear.) Too. Damn. Funny.

Again, though, at what cost? The racially-tinged and gender-tinged fervor that has come out of this election is not going to go away as easily as the man's promises.

Knowing Trump and the GOP, though, they'll spin it in their favor; and if anyone attempts to point this out, they'll just get shouted down with, "You can't expect the President to come through on ALL his promises!". (Me: "You mean, like how the obstructionist far-right senators and representatives made it impossible for Obama to come through on all his?") Listen, if this election has taught me anything, it's that nothing is truly out of bounds when it comes to politics in this country. So, while I won't say the fix was in on this election and Russian hackers put it there, let's just say I won't be surprised if we learn that's exactly what happened.

Imagine Hillary Clinton (or anyone else) doing that. The GOP would say, "REAL Presidents stay at the White House!" Is that Trump or is that Lou Dobbs in a bad toupee?

I stand corrected. Pardon me if I don't feel the least bit sorry for them. I'm sorry for those who didn't vote for him and will suffer. But the others...? Well, maybe you gotta burn your hand before you realize not to touch the stove.

First of all, the parts of Obamacare that Trump says he likes (after dismissing the entire program as a disaster) are non-budgetary, as the article states; and they are, in fact, included in Paul Ryan's "You're Gonna Love Tomorrow!" alternative (or whatever the hell he calls it). Second, he only said he would CONSIDER keeping them. To me, that isn't the same as, "I'm gonna do it! It's done!". IOW, I'll take the wait-and-see approach. Remember the meme that went around for awhile, quoting Trump (from the '80's) as saying that if he were to run for President, he would do so as a Republican, because (I'm paraphrasing) their voters are gullible? That's what came into my mind when I read this, NBA. Listen, if Trump has been a Democrat or Nationalist in Republican's clothing this entire time, then somebody hand him an Academy Award. But even if that were true, just think about the hell he has unleashed in the name of sneaking an agenda past white, working-class citizens. Either way, he has begun something that even he will be unable to contain.

You know, I'm just glad no one from Hillary's camp has demanded a recount (yet). I think we all have learned from Bush v. Gore that that won't go well for the Democrats.

^ YES. Thank you. True. But, like I said before, maybe that's what needs to happen. For once, the liberal and progressive left will be off the metaphorical hook. If the GOP cannot make this country grow with control of all three branches of government, then they have only themselves to blame.

That's almost putting it mildly. Now, you can believe homosexuality to be an abomination and learned behavior. That's your right. But it takes a special kind of evil, IMO, to endorse something like conversion therapy. Dead-eyed Mike Pence is that kind of evil.

I think Pence WILL have influence over Trump, but only up to a point. We know Trump has the IQ and attention span of a dart. We ALSO know Trump listens only to others when it serves his interests. If Pence cannot distract President (A)me(rica) from whatever shiny object is pleasing him at the moment to focus on his agenda (which includes, among other atrocities, [!@#$%^&*]-canning Roe v. Wade and pummeling the LGBTQ community into heteronormalcy), then we live to fight another day. The way I see it (and yes, I know, I'm probably wrong)... Healthcare reform (meaning, of course, Obamacare) is toast. Obamacare won't be repealed outright. However, the program will be hit with so many restrictions and revisions that it will be as good as dead. Furthermore, I think the American people (or at least the ones who stand by Trump) will learn rather quickly that when it comes to alternatives, the emperor truly wears no clothes. Foreign relations, trade relations and immigration policies are in peril. Trump's Great Wall of Mexico will not happen, but everything else...? We'll just have to cross our fingers and pray. Climate change responses are officially closed subjects, as are criminal justice reforms. (The earth is not burning, and Black lives don't matter. Accept it.) Reproductive and LGBTQ civil rights will take some hits. Frankly, Trump's victory, which ensures a Supreme Court that will lean toward the conservative, means the next generation will have to take up those causes. Nevertheless, I don't believe these issues are high on Trump's list of priorities. (Again, they don't exactly serve his interests). Therefore, their core principles (meaning, Roe v. Wade and marriage equality) will remain intact (much to Mike Pence's everlasting chagrin). "The economy" (tax reforms, entitlement reforms, jobs creation, etc.) is pretty much the heart of Trump's whole scheme -- and IMO, it's where he will do the most damage, too. But, you know, maybe that is what needs to happen. Like Roman said upthread: Trump's supporters are about to learn the hard way how much worse off they'll actually be once Trump implements his so-called strategies.

No. Absolutely not. Trump should not be impeached. As a matter of fact, nothing -- and I mean NOTHING -- should deter him from serving the full 4-8 years. (I'm serious, Trump better not get so much as a paper cut.) Why? Because, that would leave Mike Pence to run this country; and a Pence presidency, IMO, would result in outright genocide.

Allen Potter, IMO, was one of the best producers in daytime. However, he had a nasty habit of touting his shows' successes, as evidenced by the clip above. Years later, when he EP'ed GL and the show won an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series, he added a shot of an Emmy award (rotating, no less) behind the closing credits. He also had the opening announcer's spiel updated to say, "And now, the AWARD-WINNING 'Guiding Light'."

You gotta love Donald Trump. He "apologizes" for his incendiary remarks, and then turns right around and disparages a morning show host. Don't change a hair for me, Donald.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
"The formula of soap operas makes it really hard for an African-American to get any traction. There’s always a family that’s central to the story on a soap opera, and if the show loves you, you will turn into the long-lost brother or you will get married, which is easy to do for a white character. But as an ethnic person, they bring you on to be smart. You get to be the lawyer or the doctor for the family. No one sees where you live, they never bring you home. There might be one episode in February where they talk about your family because it’s Black History Month. Your character might be on once every three weeks. You walk into a room and you say something really smart and noble, and then you walk out. And you only make money when they write for your character. You couldn’t win the game as a person of color, no matter how talented or beautiful you were." Yep.
