  1. I've always said there was a stark difference between the Donald Trump that I remember from the '80's, during his "Art of the Deal" heyday, and the Donald Trump that I see today. Maybe it's because of his "Apprentice" fame, but it seems to me that he used to be better at hiding his true colors. IDK whether it would make any difference. However, how sad is it that I would welcome Mitt [!@#$%^&*] Romney running for Congress? Once again, that's what we have been reduced to, ladies and gentlemen.
  2. IIRC, Donald's dad died from Alzheimer's complications, so the threat of his also having the disease is there.
  3. Ah, so, lol. Thanks for the explanation, Leelea, and welcome to the board! It probably isn't THAT big of a deal that they would use a clip from AMC (although, given the time period, I'd be more inclined to use a clip from GH or even Y&R). I think I'm more amazed by the fact that they actually used a clip from 1984 and not '83 or '85 or whatever. They took the time to get that right, and to me, that's incredible. Meanwhile, I'm STILL smarting from "The Nanny" and their egregious Y&R reference, having Fran say Snapper Foster and Ashley Abbott had had a baby which was then stolen from her. (It was clear no one who worked on TN had ever watched Y&R.) That's how particky I am when it comes to non-soaps referencing real soaps.
  4. Thanks to that damn Ron Carlivati, though, Lee Halpern's "death" didn't quite take. IIRC, didn't the shooting occur during the '88 WGA strike?
  5. One word: money. It was probably cheaper to hire a new actor than to keep employing Harris, whose salary probably had increased with each season (as most actors' salaries on long-running series tend to do). Anyway, that's my theory.
  6. I had a feeling, lol. I don't watch ST, because sci-fi and horror aren't my cup of tea. However, having seen the link that Leelea graciously provided upthread, I have to ask: Also, I'm really curious as to how and why the Duffer brothers would write AMC into their show. Were they or their mother fans or something? Or maybe they just came across it on YT -- I'm sure it's out there -- and said, "Yeah, let's use that." Usually, when people incorporate soaps in that fashion, they always get it wrong (either use a clip from the wrong year, mix up storylines or create them from whole cloth, mention characters or actors that never were on the show, etc.). Ergo, it's just so intriguing to me how, for once, someone gets it right.
  7. It's like what Oklahoma state senator David Holt told the NYT back in August in the wake of the Charlottesville incident: “If I tried to sell young people in general but specifically minority groups on the Republican Party today, I’d expect them to laugh me out of the room.” I think people like Bob Corker, Jeff Flake and now Joe Straus are reaching the same conclusion. There's no way the GOP will ever be able to reach out to younger voters or brand itself as a party of inclusiveness after Trump basically turned the party over to the White nationalists. It's just disgusting and sad that these men were SO hungry for a win that they couldn't see what rallying behind someone like Trump would do to their party in the long run.
  8. Wait, Bill O'Reilly blamed God for his being a sexual predator? Really? God: "Bill, my son, thou MUST have SEVERAL seats."
  9. Remember the Black woman who came for Jeffrey Dahmer in the courtroom? If not for the bailiff and others restraining her, she would have given that sick mofo the beat-down of his wretched life. My point being: if it ever did come to blows between Trump and Mother Waters, I've a feeling that Mother Waters could more than hold her own. Authorities are told that a Caucasian male resident has threatened to kill and all they can do is shrug. However, let these same authorities get wind of some "suspicious-looking" African-American teenagers hanging out in front of a convenience store, and before you can say "probable cause," they're there, at the scene, armed to the teeth with weapons and protective gear, with helicopters flying above, and SWAT team members, agents from the ATF, CIA, FBI, and NSA, and even troops from the local National Guard, all standing by. THAT is the America we live in. Yep. He and Bob Corker want to pretend that this is not the Republican Party they know. However, the truth is that this IS the Republican Party they know. They just did a better job of hiding the fact.
  10. Not quite like someone throwing a pie in Anita Bryant's face, but still satisfying in its own way. Flake: "This spell will pass, but not by next year." Me: I'm not so sure "this spell" will pass at all.
  11. As we speak, they're rummaging around the Internet, looking for something with which to discredit her. Sooner or later, one of those two chuckleheads will say, "Yo' mamma!"; and that's when it'll get ugly.
  12. I'm always amazed by her performance in this episode. To me, it's almost eerie how she channels Carol Burnett's take on Eunice.
  13. Just the other day, I was thinking about how scribes like Bill Bell and Agnes Nixon had certain pet themes that they would take with them from show to show. Bell, for instance, seemed drawn to sibling rivalries, as they were a significant part of his stories on DAYS, Y&R and B&B. And Nixon REALLY loved writing about girls from the proverbial wrong side of the tracks, who grew up without fathers and craved the "good life."
  14. True. However, the fact that it's happening within this particular industry hits me hard, because it's the one industry I've always wanted to be a part of.
  15. Poor Jan. Always the bridesmaid.
  16. I actually had to look up Toback on IMDB. I'm sick with grief over just how pervasive this sort of behavior is within the film and TV industry. Meanwhile, does anyone else think someone working at one of the soaps or the networks will be outed as a serial sexual predator? Because, I'm getting the feeling that one of the PTB will be "named and shamed" sooner rather than later.
  17. UO: Relying on total abstinence to prevent pregnancies -- not to mention, many diseases -- is not necessarily a bad idea. But it's unrealistic to believe men and women will abstain (or practice the "rhythm method"). Which is why we NEED unrestricted access to contraceptives, as well as sex-ed programs that educate our youth about the risks of unprotected sex. Doesn't seem to be taking up TOO much of his time, though, since every time I see a photo of Putin, he's half-naked and riding some form of livestock.
  18. What is your opinion, then, of Howard McGillin, who succeeded Hauser and was the last actor to portray Greg, I think (save for returns by Jim Houghton and Hauser)?
  19. Years later, when Kerwin joined the cast of OLTL, an interviewer asked him to speak about his Y&R stint. IIRC, Kerwin declined, saying only that he didn't enjoy the role or working on the show. IIRC, too, one of the many grievances that JLB had against TPTB was that the actors' dressing room was large, drab, and drafty as [!@#$%^&*].
  20. Something new to distract the masses from his many, many, MANY failures: Shiny. I'm sure many are salivating at the thought of the JFK assassination files containing some sort of bombshell. ("Oswald didn't act alone! LBJ/The CIA/The Mafia was in on it! BENGHAZI!!" Oops, wrong conspiracy.) I think it'll end up being another Geraldo Rivera at Al Capone's secret vault.
  21. I didn't know that, DD, but once again, I'm not surprised.
  22. Wow, that is just so...random. I wonder whether the scene in question (between Erica and Hugo Napier's Mike) has any significance for ST2.
  23. Oh, man. I knew about what had happened in Toronto, but not in Cleveland. That's...exasperating. I mean, the movement has, at its core, the right intentions. However, leave it to those few, bad apples who want to spoil the rest of the proverbial bunch. Don't these people realize that actions like those (violating permit laws, blocking roads, etc.) only play into the mindset of the "All Lives Matter" crowd, as well as all those right-wingers like Sean Hannity who'd love nothing more than to defuse the entire movement? Except, this time, I think they could go through with quarantining. It'd HAVE to be up to Supreme Court once again to put a stop to it.
  24. If it ain't about Obamuslim or Crooked Hillary, they don't give a [!@#$%^&*].
