Oh, no. That's it, I'm taking a break from the news for the time being. See y'all whenever.

Well, "Brokeback Mountain" would be too obvious, especially with that "I wish I knew how to quit you!" line. Truly, though, you just KNOW that Donald Trump's vision of Hell is being questioned for all eternity by Jim Acosta.

Does that include West Plains? My ex-sister-in-law's mother and father are from there, along with many of her extended relatives. Do you have any idea at all about what kind of town WP is? I'm just being curious.

I'm not saying he doesn't. But how many times have he and Trump had words at press conferences and the like? Theirs has been an interesting relationship to witness -- almost like watching the arc of a great love affair. Trump hates CNN, but more than that, he REALLY hates Jim Acosta.

Maybe -- but who's to say that he's the truly guilty party here? You know, the creative writer in me wonders whether Trump is going all-out, because his self-appointed golden child, Ivanka, was/is the true mastermind. I'm just saying. Compared with 2018 (and 2017, and the last few months of 2016), it was practically our finest hour.- The Politics Thread
Frankly, I think we can, and should. You said so yourself: no matter how Trump spins it, he is PISSED that the Democrats succeeded in regaining control of the House. Not just because they'll be a check against his power, but because matters like the Mueller investigation fall squarely within their domain.- The Politics Thread
Oh, well. So long, Keebler Elf. Guess that's the way the Chips Deluxe Cookie crumbles. Forget about trigging a "constitutional crisis," Chuck Schumer. If Trump gets his way, Mueller is fired and the investigation is shut down, there will be literal blood in the streets. The L.A. Riots will look like frat boys' rough housing by comparison. As an Oklahoman, I would say the same about Governor-Elect Kevin Stitt...except Mary Fallin did a pretty good job burying us. Stitt's only there to throw one last rose on our state's coffin.- The Politics Thread

Who does Trump think we are? China? Don't answer that.- The Politics Thread
Exactly. So what would the harm be in legalizing and/or de-criminalizing those vices in this country? If anything, they're popular, for lack of a better word, because we tend to look at them as "forbidden fruit;" yet, removing that aura of forbidden-ness through legislation might help remove the appeal. Seriously, when is it not?- The Politics Thread
Well, for one thing, Mary Todd Lincoln might have had a better wardrobe.- The Politics Thread
I'll go even further: legalize recreational marijuana, legalize gambling (why should the Native Americans have all the fun? ;)), legalize prostitution. Enough of this hypocritical "We know what's best for you" b.s. If they truly knew what was best for us, they'd outlaw (again) the sale and consumption of alcohol, as well as every all you can eat buffet and fast-food joint in the land. Those things, along with the growing opioid epidemic, is hurting this country more than some damn weed. They do. But they also don't want Obama to take away their guns (even though he isn't president anymore and didn't when he was), or Hillary (or her emails) to get away with killing those men in Benghazi (even though the fifty-some-odd-and-counting investigations into the matter have cleared her of any wrongdoing), or Planned Parenthood to sell any more aborted fetuses (which isn't true, has been debunked soundly, etc.). They want girls to stay girls, men to stay men, men and girls to marry each other, people to stand up before the flag and recite the Pledge of Allegiance ("or else"), and all black and brown people to stay the hell out of America. The GOP knows that, and so that's what they use to win their votes.- The Politics Thread
IA. Being the "anti-Trump party" got them this far. However, if the Democratic Party wants to cement last night's victories and move forward, they need to begin work now on rebuilding "from the ground up," with fresh faces and voices, and truly progressive ideas on how to heal the economic and other wounds that continue to fester throughout this country. Last night and the run-up to it were just the start; now, the real work must begin. Yes. It. Is. The ACA ain't perfect, but dammit, it's better than what we had before, which was (old joke, I know) a package of band-aids and that bottle of Robitussin that your mama kept even when y'all moved thirty years ago. I think that has to be the unkindest cut of all for Trump.- The Politics Thread
Now, more than ever, I'm pulling for Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and her "Designing Women" reboot/revival. You KNOW she's gonna have a thing or two to say about this [!@#$%^&*].- The Politics Thread
Again, not surprised. Folks, there's no other way around it: nationalism has swept our country; and like any common cold or flu (or reboot/revival craze), we're just gonna have to ride it out. (As it is, there's little our generation could have done to fix the messes of the past two years. Even if the Dems had made bigger inroads tonight, it still would've been up to our kids and grandkids to figure out how to get us back to where we were before Trump.) But, at least the Dems have regained control of the House, putting (as others have said upthread) an effective check and balance against Trump and the GOP. It might not be the "blue wave" many had dreamed of, but it's something.- The Politics Thread
Good. Now, about impeaching B**** K********..... I'm literally stunned about Horn's victory. What happened, my fellow Okies? Did you mark your ballots wrong? Yeah, that's probably what y'all did.- The Politics Thread
Something similar happened here in OK. Kevin Stitt won the gubernatorial race; yet, if you break it down, you see that his opponent, Drew Edmondson, won OKC, which is our state's capital and biggest city. My theory: Stitt's victory came from the smaller towns, which, I am sorry to say, will never see their way toward voting for anyone except a Republican. Those people are hardcore "Grapes of Wrath" folks, folks. I'm moving to Colorado. (Heck, it's only one state away for me, lol.)- The Politics Thread
That's really the only thing I was hoping for (and am still hoping for).- The Politics Thread
I'm not even going to bother with any results in OK, lol.- The Politics Thread
Sadly, that video was more compelling than anything I've seen Bradley Bell write for her on B&B.- The Politics Thread
