  1. It might have been too expensive to update whenever needed, but I would have preferred a montage of scenes set to the show's original theme song.
  2. Or, it'll lead to Frank hiring a bunch more people to play members of his family, thereby expanding GH's cast to 1000 actors strong. Time will tell.
  3. Something tells me it would have to take a lot more than JJ coming back to lure TG out of retirement. Especially when we know how...displeased he was with the writing for Luke toward the end of his run, lol.
  4. It just irks me to no end how Frank refuses to allow anyone to leave his show, even when the storyline dictates it. You could be an under-five, simply delivering pizza to the nurses at GH during their lunch break, and I guarantee Frank will see to it that you're featured every week and in a relationship with Lucy.
  5. IIRC, CBS signed Angela Lansbury, Corymore Productions and Universal to a deal to produce several TV movies as compensation for cancelling MSW. However, after "South by Southwest" failed in the ratings - a failure that I chalk up to poor promotion - Team Lansbury/Universal had a helluva time coming up with a story for the second movie that CBS liked; and for a time, it looked as if the rest of the deal would be cancelled. Then, Lansbury/Corymore contacted former writer/producer J. Michael Straczynski, who wrote "A Story to Die For," which did well enough for CBS to green-light the last two movies.
  6. I think it was Linda Bloodworth-Thomason who remarked about how strange it was to see CBS turn from a network that celebrated independent women (Lucy and Ethel, Mary and Rhoda, Maude, Murphy Brown, Cagney & Lacey, etc.) into "Dead Hooker TV" or something along those lines.
  7. To me, Lucky and Liz were done as a couple the day he told her he should've left her to die in the snow. IDC how angry Lucky was with Liz at that moment. IMO, he crossed a line when he said that.

  9. I don't think so, but I'm not 100% sure, lol. I do know, though, he wrote for AW before OLTL. In fact, he probably got the OLTL gig due to Paul Rauch.
  10. No, that's Mary. It's just hard to recognize her, because her hair isn't blonde. Her mother in the commercial is Florida Friebus, who played Dobie Gillis' mom, and later, one of Bob Hartley's patients, Mrs. Bakerman, on "The Bob Newhart Show." And her father? That's one of my all-time faves, Bill Quinn. He played a bunch of guest star and supporting/recurring roles on TV, including Mary Richards' dad on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and Mr. Van Ranseleer on "Archie Bunker's Place." And yes, he was Bob Newhart's father-in-law IRL, too.
  11. Another thing: if I had been Les Moonves, I would have encouraged them to try and sell the show to another network, like how "Matlock" switched from NBC to ABC. IDK if the ratings would have remained as high on another network, but if Lansbury wasn't ready to move on yet, it certainly wouldn't have hurt to give her that option.
  12. Obviously, this Karl person and whoever her mother is have failed Holly as parents. Neither do I. "Murder Among Friends" is almost TOO painful to watch (or, rather, rewatch) because you can tell that the knives were out, lol. As I said before, I won't argue that MSW probably needed to end after S12. Many episodes that season feel like complete retreads of stories told in previous years - in some cases, right down to using the same guest stars! - and three episodes in particular - "Something Foul in Flappieville," "What You Don't Know Can Kill You" and "Mrs. Parker's Revenge" - I would rank as the series' absolute worst, lower than even some of the more abysmal bookend episodes from S's 6 and 7! But, if I had been in Les Moonves' position, I would have gone to Lansbury and Universal before the start of the season and levelled with them. I would have said, "Look, you've gotten us through some rough times in the past, and we appreciate that, but I need to take CBS in a different, more youthful direction and I don't see MSW being a part of that. So, let's you and me sit down right now and decide how we want MSW to end this year. Rest assured, Ms. Lansbury, we're not gonna move you from Sunday nights or ask you to do anything with your show that's too crazy, but what else could we do to ensure that MSW goes out with a bang?" For starters, maybe they could've brought back Peter S. Fischer as a consultant to ensure that the mysteries in the final year were some of the best yet. He'd been away from the show for four years; maybe his creative batteries had been recharged enough to allow him some fresh ideas. Or maybe, if there was a list of actors that they'd always wanted to appear but, for some reason, never could land, this might be the season to make a real, concerted effort to land them. Actors such as Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Julie Andrews, James Garner, Alan Alda, Carol Burnett, and the list goes on. If it means digging a little deeper into their pocketbooks to pay these people, then do it! It wouldn't have been the first time! I might have even suggested making a real event out of the series finale, complete with a one-hour retrospective that would allow various people to talk about the impact that the show has had, especially in regards to how older people are depicted in television today; and a final, two hour mystery that (as ads promise) would be Jessica Fletcher's most baffling mystery yet.
  13. Nah, I'd keep all three. They don't need to drive story the way they have been for too long, but they still need to be there in some capacity, I think. I could go along with bringing back Jess Walton and reviving the Brooks, Foster and Prentiss families in some fashion, but aside from being Lily's mom, I'm not sure whether VR would have a real place on Y&R again, especially now with KSJ/Neil gone.
  14. ICAM. I made the same observation last week while taking yet another trip through the MSW-verse on Pluto TV. Even the latter seasons, when the show becomes less folksy in order to appeal to a wider demographic, have a feeling of warmth to them. Again, that's due to Angela Lansbury's presence and refusal to play Jessica Fletcher as anything other than a sensible, down-to-earth, non-judgmental everywoman. I mean, it's a little too obvious how or why so many younger people are so "down" with Miss Fletcher, but it's not as much of a stretch to believe that as you would think. As we all have said before, on numerous occasions, Les Moonves' treatment of Lansbury and her show was nothing short of abominable. I won't argue that MSW felt tired by the 12th season and probably needed to end, but after all Lansbury had done to keep CBS afloat through some very lean years for the network, she deserved to wrap up her show on her terms, not Moonves'.
  15. I don't mean to be childish about it, but between the repetitive storylines and the hammy acting, with Barbara Bel Geddes being the show's one saving grace, DALLAS tried my patience as a soaps fan. Maybe not as much as DYNASTY tried my patience, or FALCON CREST, but it certainly gave my nerves a good workout or several, lol. On the whole, I enjoyed the dream season. Maybe it wasn't the DALLAS that fans were used to. Maybe it was trying too hard to compete with DYNASTY. Nevertheless, I give Peter Dunne and his team props for trying to shake up the show and add dimensions or layers to characters that, by that point, had become awfully shallow.
  16. You'd kill off The Great Victor Newman? Oh, Lawd. The hip-hop community would never forgive you. Nor would their mamas and big mamas and aunties, all of whom would be running to the altars and rebuking you in the name of Jesus so fast, lol! Jordan seems almost too obvious of a choice at this point, but I'm hard-pressed to think of anyone else who could fit the bill of being Y&R's inaugural serial killer.
  17. Which is oddly fascinating to me, because, BITD, Lucky Gold (or Lloyd, as he was known as back then) wrote for OLTL, which employed some very fine dialogue writers (Gold, Lanie Bertram, Don Wallace, etc.).
  18. I'm of the mindset that you SHOULDN'T know ahead of time which actors will be in that day's episode. (Just as I feel you shouldn't know which breakdown or dialogue/script writer wrote that episode. Sorry, Toups!) You're running the risk of audience members tuning out if they think their favorite actors won't be featured that day. That's what I love about the soap openings that didn't/don't feature any actors. You wanna know if your favorite actor will be on today? You'll just have to stay tuned and find out, lol.
  19. TBH, I think Victor's the only reason why Nikki/MTS has lasted this long. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure she would've been history by 1982 or so. Another potential victim for the Genoa City Slasher, lol.
