Y&R: July 2024 Discussion Thread
-- The Sharon story makes no sense. SC is playing the role like she's completely out of it and heading to loonyville, while everyone's looking at her and wondering "Are you OK?" -- Why should I care if Devon and Abby marry? -- I don't care about Traci and Alan. It's a "romance" going nowhere and leading to no story. -- In no universe would Summer have legal authority to keep Kyle from taking his biological son to Paris. It's a freaking VACATION. They're not moving there. -- Maybe I'd appreciate Victor more, but all we're getting -- all we EVER get -- is a switch-up of company execs and taking over companies. Why should I care when none of it makes any sense and when none of it could ever happen? -- Why would Adam AGAIN take a job with his father when he already knows he won't be kept there? -- Chelsea slept with Adam and she's behaving like there's a bomb under her bed that's ready to detonate. No wonder Connor is nuts. I could name another dozen fails on this disaster of a show. NOTHING is working. NOTHING.

LOL Exactly. And I had to laugh when Kate said she'd need to explain "craft services" to Abe. I mean, does anyone believe there's any kind of decent craft services at DAYS? They're lucky if they get generic bottled water. I've said it before. Janet Spellman-Drucker has done NOTHING since she moved into the EP slot. The show looks worse than ever.

I hear you about Natalia evolving. However, we've seen time and time again that soap viewers want a redemption arc that makes sense. We don't respond to "She really wasn't to blame." We don't respond to "We all make mistakes, don't we"? When Kristina said that, I gagged. If that's true, why can't we call Ava's recording a mistake? Why hold anyone accountable for anything?

-- Nothing about Perez Hilton's appearance felt real/genuine. He was stilted and charmless on a terrible blanched-out set. That off white couch with the beige walls was boring and awful. -- Who the hell dressed Blaze for that appearance? She's a young musical star who dresses like a 45-year old? -- The Metro Court lobby set is fantastic. Compare that to the Grand Phoenix lobby on Y&R, which was a joke. -- However, the glory of that MC lobby went away when they showed us the outside entrance, which is embarrassingly bad. -- Laura Wright's new haircut looks good. -- Maura West looked fire in black. And how many in this cast are on Ozempic?

It's clear that when they put up that bridge set, they've got to use it for multiple days. That's when you get the awkwardness of characters being there for a long, long time, which you pointed out. The beer prop makes it worse. Speaking of sets, ever notice that the pool platform isn't concrete, but wood? It's impossible to miss the clomping around. Seems odd to me.

DAYS: Head Writer Ron Carlivati Departing Peacock Soap After Seven Years
It's actually gratifying to know Peacock execs care enough about DAYS to replace Carlivati. I thought they'd just let the show rot until cancellation. So many of us complained about stalled storylines during the writers' strike. Little did we know that things would get even worse once Ron returned. The show is so bad right now, and I guess we're in for more bad until next April/May. The writing looks like it comes from someone who just doesn't care. I feel like Carlivati starts work on a Monday, and by Wednesday is bored -- so he decides to start packing for a weekend on Fire Island. From Wednesday on, he really doesn't care about the show or viewers, so we get the crap we're seeing now. The focus on Leo alone shows he doesn't give a sh.it. And can we please stop praising writers for knowing the history of the show? That should be Soap 101. That should be the expected minimum.

Eric and Nicole are ho-hum at this time to me because 1) We've seen it all before -- too many times and in too short a time span. Make up, break up, rinse and repeat. 2) We know they're leaving -- and there's little reason to get invested in them. They were supercouple material, and they were ruined.

So the ONLY conversation in town is that Tom and Hollis died of drug overdoses? My favorite scene today was Brooke staring into space and then thinking about Hollis -- followed by a "We remember you, Hollis" video montage. Runner-up has to be Sheila being taken away by Lt. Baker for pretty much no reason at all.
