As The World Turns Discussion Thread
There was no reason to replace Behr and Broderick. Dumb. And to have Goutman hire Laiman from AW where she created that dumb plot with Prince Edmund from Guiding Light. Terrible. Broderick was finding her footing. I was meh about Behr but she had tons of experience but both were probably more costly than the incompetents we go in 2000.

I wonder if Wendy Riche will be coming in as a consultant (she is 80 after all) and they promote one of the senior producers to EP, like Jennifer Whittaker-Brogdon? That could be interesting. But the change at the top is needed. They can play musical chairs with the writers but it won't make much difference until there's a visionary at the top. I've always thought that Frank would be a perfect fit at Y&R re sets, lighting etc. Frank and Ron can reunite in Genoa City under Steve Kent.

Lloyd Gold last listed as GH outline writer on 6/21. 20 episodes later....I think we can safely assume he's gone, no?

DAYS: Head Writer Ron Carlivati Departing Peacock Soap After Seven Years
Days was renewed through September 2025 which means that the new writers material airs for about six months before then. I wonder if Peacock has already decided not to renew passed then and these new writers are there to write the exit while Ron takes over Y&R head writing duties. Just speculation.

DAYS: Head Writer Ron Carlivati Departing Peacock Soap After Seven Years
I still contend he's going to Y&R. Someone above said Ron isn't "friends" with Steve Kent, but Steve ran both Y&R and Days for Sony for many years and clearly had a say in Ron's tenure on the show. Steve just joined YR as "executive in charge" and already one days writer was hired (Dave Ryan) and Marla Kanelos returned after 12 years. We know Y&R must improve if they want The Gates to succeed. It's hard to believe they won't oust Griffith. Execs love Ron because he can write a compelling bible; it's just that his book only has about four chapters that he rotates. Back from the dead. Wigs, drag, doppelgängers, baby switches. Given the Days new HW stories start airing in April, when does Days current Peacock contract expire because it's possible Ford and Paula are there to write the end of the show. They have to be cheaper (pay scale) than Ron. Ford lives in Maryland and has children and as far as I know teaches. She's never been a HW before.

DAYS: Head Writer Ron Carlivati Departing Peacock Soap After Seven Years
Thanks, Jason. We were speculating that while Ron's contract started Jan 2017 and probably ran through Dec 2024, it would make sense that he left or was fired at the end of his mid year cycle and the end of June. My speculation is that Sony/Steve Kent moved him over to Y&R to retool that show before The Gates premieres.....we will see

DAYS: Head Writer Ron Carlivati Departing Peacock Soap After Seven Years
So was his half year (26 week) contract up at end of June and the announcement is just coming out now....that would be my guess given the production schedule (section below) from Jason47 website. The show has been dark since mid June Week of 6/10/24-6/14/24 # 15056-15065 (airing 2/18/25-3/3/25) Week of 6/17/24-6/21/24 DARK WEEK # 9 Week of 6/24/24-6/28/24 DARK WEEK # 10 Week of 7/1/24-7/5/24 DARK WEEK # 11 http://www.jason47.com/days/productionschedule.html I noticed the Errol didn't say "and Ron isn't going to Y&R either"

Who is Marlena? Connie Passalacqua Hayman, a.k.a. Marlena De Lacroix
My guess is that it was Ken who tried to get her fired.

ARTICLE: Soap Opera Ratings for the Week of July 1-5, 2024
Korte is equally responsible if not more as she's been there consistently for 30 something years and has been the right hand of several head writing regimes in the last 20 years. She needs to go along with Valentini.

If one hasn't seen Yates' Jamie debut episode, one must find it and watch it. He shows up to the mansion in the shortest, white, hot pants I've ever seen on a man let alone a daytime character in any decade except maybe some Bill Bell Y&R/B&B characters. His white shorts rival a GL episode that featured Carl Tye Evans as Alan-Michael in scenes with Harley. He's chucking flicks up his you know what throughout the episode. I loved Yates but he was never convincing as a straight romantic lead. His role as Jamie would have been a perfect opportunity for the show to play the gay story that Lemay wanted to tell years earlier.

Marla Kanalos wrote July 8 and 15th Y&R scripts. badummmmbummm Maybe Steve Kent will make some positive changes including firing the entire existing writing team.

2024: The Directors and Writers Thread
Y&R July 12 episode that was posted on YouTube this morning: Dave Ryan (from Days) listed as script writer. I guess he was let go from Days to make room for Dan O'Connor....Since Days tapes 8 months ahead, and YR doesn't, his name (if he's under contract at Young) will appear on both shows for a while. Dave also wrote 7/12 Days script.

2024: The Directors and Writers Thread
I've been watching soaps for decades and I've lived through several writers' strikes. I'm always fascinated by the names that pop up in the writers' credits for the various shows post strike. Now, of course, I don't have inside knowledge of the most recent staffing on the shows but it's so curious to see all these newbies, production staff and associates whose names appear. To name a few (discounting fi core i.e. James H. Brown): GH: Peter Killeen, Nigel Campbell YR: Lyndsey Harrison (lasted six episodes post strike); Madeleine Phillips (JG assistant who may have already written her last script in June) BB: Sarah Perna (production assistant on the show for the last few years).

That's possible given his connection to MVJ, but my gut tells me that the team behind that new show has more diverse (and younger) choices. PM's longest writing stint was Santa Barbara, I think, where he worked with Ken, and now that Kent is directly in charge of the failing and horrible Y&R I could see PM going over there to do scripts and that show desperately needs another veteran writer.
