Great! I've been watching for this obit. I've noticed that soap actors don't get much attention in the NYTimes obits. Anthony Herrera -- one of the great soap villains -- did not get an obit. And neither did Elizabeth Hubbard -- which was shocking to me given her extensive stage and TV work prior to ATWT. It took them about two weeks to post an obit for Kathryn Hays. I think her "Star Trek" episode and marriage to Glenn Ford may have finally convinced the editors to include her. RIP Eileen! nice to see this — and it’s been a busy week, what with malcolm jamel warner and ozzy osbourn. now let’s see if cbs sunday morning can find a few seconds in ‘passages.’ historically they’ve totally ignored p&g actors who’ve passed — actors who were on cbs for decades.

of course, the ‘so exactly how old is martin?’ is never going away. but, one possibility is that nicole had him while while she and ted were residents or post-docs. both were overloaded, so anita and vernon stepped in to help and formed such a strong bond that it undermined martin’s relationship with his parents.

as a viewer, i feel shortchanged by the lack of development among the richardsons. we’ve never seen them together as a family; no idea of what kind of relationship kat and martin had growing up — with their parents, or each other — not to mentioned the grandchildren. the reveal will have an impact on the entire family and beyond. not having established the foundation underlying the richardsons will likely dilute the power and depth of how the reveal plays out.

Exactly. Martin didn't have a true one-on-one with his mother, Nicole, until very recently. The writers do not write her character with the same care as the other core 4. and iirc, yesterday’s scene with samantha was the first time we’ve seen nicole with her grandchildren - after 5 months! really not fair to viewers. and goes back to the beginning: too much happening to too many characters too quickly. so many stories they could have introduced later — ashley/derek, and chelsea’s romantic entanglements come to mind.

To be fair, they showed more of Martin with his mama more than they ever do with his father. the relationships within the richardsons have been lacking since the show began — especially when compared with the hamiltons. now that the shi* is hitting the fan, those gaps are glaring.

they really are dragging out the reveal — hoping for the end of the week. what i’m really looking forward to is how the aftermath of the reveal will play out: martin and his parents, vernon and anita — so many emotional layers to mine. what concerns me is that will skip over all of that and shift the focus to other characters — leslie, in particular.

Lynn Herring, Robin Mattson, Billy Warlock, that greasy Professor who was harrassing Noah and had been on OLTL, flippin' Sarah Brown, Howarth, Real Andrews (although he was a sweetie), Howarth....basically any ABC actor who went off contract it seemed. thanks for filling in the blanks!

while some viewers (you) “relish in OTT scenery chewing; ” others (like me:) loath it. and therein lies the problem with soaps that run for decades: can’t please all of the people all of the time, but soaps need to please at least some of the people some of the time. but ratings continued to drop after continued attempts to turn world turns into an abc soap and jill farren phelps moved the coopers front and center on guiding light. so…

i suppose it would have screwed up the plot for ted to have told leslie/dana: ‘call an uber!’ and listening to cady mcclain’s pamela is getting on my last nerve.

loved how they juxtaposed the scenes between martin and smitty wiith those between jacob and elon. malachi malik was so good conveying the subtext of the situation.

yes, susan batten was the first at ‘world turns — one of the worst recasts ever — but nothing compared to what barbara bloom did when she took over cbs daytime in 2003. left jfp in the dust. it was like a full employment program for people she worked with at abc: after roger howarth and jon lindstrom — nothing against any of the actors — there was noelle beck replacing martha byrne, kin shriner, stuart damon, julie pinson, and probably a few more i don’t recall off the top of my head.

howarth was barbara bloom first attempt to turn ‘world turns into an abc soap. there was no reason to recast paul ryan when scott holroyd was so good. then, a few years later, scott bryce was fired as craig and replaced with jon lindstrom. fwiw: bloom worked with both actors when she was running abc daytime.

didn’t see anything about this in the ny times. trump hates democrats — he really does and boo hoo for lisa murkowski — who “agonized” over her vote to pass the big, beautiful nightmare.

just found this: Bob Hughes' eulogy to his grandfather, on June 4th, 1976 Thank you for being with us today. Pa would have liked this rain, and what it would do for all growing things. He loved birth, growth, nurturing. This would be his kind of day--and perhaps it is. Because he we are, too---his friends, his neighbors, his pastor and three generations of the family whom he loved so much together. He would love the fact of Mom cooking this morning, so that people cold eat later on--if they wanted to stay together a little longer and talk a little longer. We loved him, and he loved us. That love will always be with us, because we each carry some living memory of him, and that will go on as long as we go on. We Hugheses all shared for years my grandfather's blessing of having such a good man live among us. Grandpa had a sweetness and a tolerance. He believed there was good in everyone. When we were kids we used to say, "Now, Grandpa, not everybody's good." And he'd say, "Oh, yes—it's there—but in some people it just never had a chance to grow." He never tried to tell you what to do, but he had a way of leading you to what was right, and what was the truth. Sometimes—sometimes we didn't take his hand when he offered to lead us, and that's when we got into trouble. In the last year of his life, he married a lovely woman. She's with her family today. She needs them just as we need each other here. Grandpa has a great-granddaughter who is only two and a half. She's home. She may not understand our sadness, but she will share the memories of Pa through all of us, and someday pass some of them on to her children—and so on and on part of his spirit will always be with us. It's stopped raining. As much as he loved the rain, Pa loved the sun that came after the rain. Pa loved life. Pa loved God. He's with Him.

while i’ve been lukewarm about nuTed, this exchange is the first time i was really feeling him and nicole. and, yes, he keeping another big secret — but he told her he had something to tell her and she immediately assumed that it was dani/andre, then went on a tear and wouldn’t let him get a word in. nicole has been presented as a paragon of virtue. very realistic that they’re showing this side of her, given everything she’s been through.

Oh, but this makes it "edgy." (No, you're absolutely right, this was a terrible decision). that was my initial reaction. but then it occurred to me that having him in the mix could have am impact on the whole doug-vanessa situation and decided to wait and see how the aftermath unfolds.
