  1. https://raskin.house.gov/2022/12/statement-of-congressman-jamie-raskin-to-the-people-of-maryland-s-8th-district December 28, 2022 WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) today released the following statement. “After several days of tests, I have been diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma, which is a serious but curable form of cancer. I am about to embark on a course of chemo-immunotherapy on an outpatient basis at Med Star Georgetown University Hospital and Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Prognosis for most people in my situation is excellent after four months of treatment. “I expect to be able to work through this period but have been cautioned by my doctors to reduce unnecessary exposure to avoid COVID-19, the flu and other viruses. In addition to destroying cancer cells, chemotherapy impairs natural antibodies and undermines the body’s immune system. I am advised that it also causes hair loss and weight gain (although I am still holding out hope for the kind that causes hair gain and weight loss). “With the benefit of early detection and fine doctors, the help of my extraordinary staff, the love of Sarah and our daughters and sons-in-law (actual and to-be) and family and friends, and the support of my beloved constituents and my colleagues in the House, I plan to get through this and, in the meantime, to keep making progress every day in Congress for American democracy. “My love and solidarity go out to other families managing cancer or any other health condition in this holiday season—and all the doctors, nurses and medical personnel who provide us comfort and hope.”
  2. In Tues Jan 3 (US) eppy, Danny mentions Gina to Cricket! Danny says that he is still touring around the world, and that Gina sometimes flies out to wherever he is on tour and she gets on stage to do a couple of songs with him. Danny says he spent Thanksgiving with Gina. (He doesn't say where they spent Thanksgiving.) Danny: "I do enjoy traveling the world and visiting some of my favorite places, seeing new ones, meeting people. And Gina flies out on occasions, and, yeah, we get her onstage. She does a couple songs, that's always the best!" Cricket asked "Gina's doing well?" Danny replied "Yeah she's great. she's great, yeah. I spent Thanksgiving with her; and Christmas and New Year's with Daniel."
  3. I too agree with what @darrell66 said about how it should have played out.
  4. Yeah the Republicans are not the majority. The Non-voters are the majority. _______ The common but unproven/inaccurate thought is that the USA is evenly split between Democrats and Republicans. Between 1/3 and 1/2 of the electorate doesn't vote. https://www.electproject.org/election-data/voter-turnout-data A huge percentage of eligible voters in the USA don't vote, so we don't really know what they think. Do they favor either party? Do they just not care? Did they want to vote but encountered roadblocks in their ability to cast a ballot? Who knows?
  5. Bo wouldn't be a blind item. SOD has already run articles about his return.
  6. Patty Murray sworn in as President Pro Tempore of the US Senate. (the prior pro tem Patrick Leahy retired). https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/wa-sen-patty-murray-for-now-is-second-in-line-for-presidency/ Ms. Murray is now second in line after the VP for the US presidency. Usually it's the line of succession is: VP, Speaker of the House, and then Senate pres pro tem. But there currently is no Speaker! The Senate president pro tem is usually the longest-serving senator from the majority party. Murray, as she begins her 31st year in the Senate, is now the second-most-senior female senator in history, trailing only her Democratic colleague California Sen. Dianne Feinstein by two months. Feinstein said last year she wasn’t interested in the president pro tem position.
  7. She doesn't have story. She has episodes in which she is mostly just pouring coffee. Literally.
  8. The "officer" was the cop following Sheila in the car chase. As it was happening, he was describing it on the phone to Deputy Chief Baker. He appeared twice - December 19 and 20.
  9. Oh I see what you mean.
  10. A contract on U.S. soaps does two things: It ensures that that show can use you when they need you. It gives you "benefits" (health insurance, retirement, etc.). Also, when you are on a contract, you are guaranteed to be paid for x number of episodes per week, averaged over time. If you have a one-episode guarantee, then they pay you for 52 episodes in the year, but some months you might air a lot, and some months you might not air at all. However, a contract doesn't guarantee that they will keep you. All it does is keep you available for them. Even with a multi-year contract, they can fire you at the end of any 13-week cycle.
  11. Brazil will have first Indigenous woman chief for key post Brazil's President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced the ministers for his incoming government, in Brasilia, Brazil, Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022. RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazil’s President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced Thursday that Sônia Guajajara will head up a new Ministry of Indigenous Peoples, with a mandate to oversee policies ranging from land demarcation to health care. Guajajara was elected to Congress in October. She is widely known as the leader of the main umbrella group for Brazil’s many Indigenous tribes and is a member of the Amazon Guajajara. This year she made Time Magazine’s annual list of the world’s 100 most influential people. https://apnews.com/article/technology-politics-brazil-government-united-states-802853d7e3f1364abf310971acb658a7 The appointment of Guajajara to such a post marks a 180 degree turn from Brazil’s current government. Outgoing president Jair Bolsonaro, defeated in October, is an opponent of Indigenous rights and land with a record of racist statements. In 1998, when he was still a fringe lawmaker, he spoke in Brazil’s Congress praising the U.S. Cavalry for having “decimated its Indians” and regretted Brazil had not done the same. The lands where Brazil’s Indigenous peoples live constitute one of the world’s most important carbon sinks. The Amazon rainforest acts as a buffer against climate change by absorbing large amounts of carbon dioxide. About 13% of Brazil’s territory is demarcated as Indigenous areas, roughly the size of Colombia. Most of it is in the Amazon and covered by tropical rainforest.

  15. I can see from the encoding that they were trying to post this https://giphy.com/embed/mSG7epqcwJDFEV9KJc/video which is a video of a dumpster floating away in a flood disaster. LOL. Yeah dumpster disaster is a pretty apt description of this storyline.
