In my memory it was a rather tacky looking set (supposed to be a remodeled Indigo Jazz club, once owned by Neil???)  in which Judith Chapman was prancing around as Gloria, sometimes funny but quite often not so much. I think it was during that time that Tad Shackleford was feautured quite promimently as her "loverman" Jeff.

I also remember Gloria referring herself as "Glo" while referring to Jeff as the "worm" somewhat affectionately.

Phyllis giggling aside, whoever wrote this past week’s worth of episodes has pretty much been on point.

Daniel & Lily is pure nostalgia, Jack calling out Phyllis’s own history with Christine and Sharon and calling out her “smirk” was perfection, the Lauren/Sally scenes were surprisingly refreshing, and someone FINALLY remembered Allison Lanier has  has the talent to steamroll over Stafford while also still being able to play daddy’s little girl when needed after months of ignoring that talent.

A victim of too much rewriting. The Rey/Chelsea plot was very obviously dropped in abrupt fashion when some executives ordered Rey’s death. The Shick reunion didn’t pan at all. Unfortunately Sharon has relegated to the role of Aunt Liz on AW or something akin to Lisa on ATWT or Holly on GL during their final decade.

Or as I say on Twitter the show has made Sharon the new "Aunt Ruby" from GH dispensing advice to everyone over coffee.

The obvious story for Sharon is some revelation about her father that could lead her on a quest, maybe discover a half sibling.

I could envision Sharon somehow getting a letter or a DM on her social media from her father stating he's dying and wants to see her one last time before he goes. Sharon can first consider whether she should go see the man who abandoned her and her mother for years. Noah may be more opposed to her leaving, whereas Mariah may be more in favor of her leaving. Ultimately, Sharon decides to go visit him in Arizona and finds out that she has a half-brother from her father's other marriage who is a bit of drifter. But Sharon offers a place to stay if he ever comes to Genoa City which he does.  Yet the half-brother's intentions might not be as sincere.

And again in today’s episode as well. Kyle is making threats towards Phyllis and all MS Phyllis can do is giggle and make goofy faces.

I know time is money especially on these sets these days, but someone should've pulled Michelle to the side and be like "I need more from you than to giggle and look unbothered."

During BE's maternity leave in the early 2000s, they hired a capable and I think charismatic actress to temp for her, the actress's name escapes me, but the should have brought her back when BE vacated the role.

    From Soapcentral

    Actor History

    Beth Ehlers (Originated role; September 1987 to September 28, 1993; January 21 to January 30, 1997; May 29, 1997 to June 23, 2008)

Amy Carlson (filled in November 9th through 12, 1998)

Hayley Sparks (filled in during Ehlers' maternity leaves; May 5, to July 30, 1999; July 18 to August 3, 2001; August 25 and 26, 2002)

Also Harley.  When Ehlers left they certainly should've recast, SORAS at least one of her sons and appropriately recast Daisy.  Whether you liked Harley or not, she was a big tent pole of the show.  If written out, Harley needed to be gradually phased out and not dismissed with throwaway lines about being in Greece.

They should've SORAS both Zach and Jude since Leah who was born years after them was now a teenage while those kids were still in elementary school made no sense. They could've had Zach and Jude stay with Buzz and built them up with the teen scene until they found a recast for Harley.

  5. ATWT

    Jack and Carly

    John and Lucinda

    Holden and Lily (Martha Byrne)

    Bob and Kim

Dusty and Janet (Dusty finally got the family he always wanted)

Should've been Lisa and Grant and perhaps Emma and Cal too if TPTB cared enough.

    Guiding Light

    Ross and Blake

    Josh and Reva

    Phillip and Beth

    Billy and Vanessa

    Bill and Lizzie

Danny and Michelle (Bethany Joy Lenz)

    Quint and Nola

Has Y&R ever really had a matriarch in the way that daytime soaps were known for having a matriarch though? I struggle to think of one. Y&R had Liz Foster and Mary Williams, I guess but they never seemed to be the drivers of story, at least not at the time I got to watch and honestly, most of Liz Foster’s time was way before I started watching.

I think they were considered more "maternal figures," such as Liz and Mary, as well as Mamie, who not only was there for the Abbotts for years but for her nieces, Neil, Nate, Nathan, and Malcolm too.

@slick jones I honestly thought you had tossed Y&R by the wayside long ago while I’m still grimacing trying to watch the last soap I’m even clinging onto 😅

Connor & Johnny are cute kids and can act but the dialogue given to them Is terrible/dreadful. . Sheesh that dialogue would be absolutely terrible even if had been given to Sharon & Nick.

Faith and Moses being ridiculously aged from high school freshman to college freshman in a year span and shipped off just pure laziness when Faith & Moses could have experienced similar issues Nick & Sharon faced in high school, or even a retelling of the Kevin/Lily Internet story for Faith & Moses. But NOPE!

The Winters family right now reminds me of Guiding Light treated the Bauer family for that show’s last 15 years. Remember how how 2-year old Leah Bauer was SOARSED to age 16 while older brother Jude Bauer remained age 5?

I think the show would at least be wise to bring back Lucy on screen so it could tie up a lot of loose ends, let Sheila appear as part of Y&R’s 50th, and leave Phyllis responsible with dealing with a younger version of herself.

But I predict Lucy would probably be sweet and innocent as Phyllis and Sheila marvel together that their granddaughter has resilience they never had. 🙃

All valid points were made here!

This is why I hoped they would age Johnny and Connor to 15 years old. My wishful story was that Johnny was going to find out about his true parentage on his 16th birthday, while both boys fought over a teenage Lucy. In addition to fighting for a place within their family and with Chelsea.

One of the issues with the Winters is that they're missing a viable matriarch or patriarch. They want to make it Lily, but she isn't mature or capable at this time to do so. I wish there was a way they could work it out with Tonya Lee Williams. Because Olivia or a recast Malcolm would definitely shore up that family.

I was hoping it was going to turn out that the young mother who was going to give up the baby to Tessa and Mariah was somehow going to turn out to be Lucy, but for some reason she's living overseas with Heather.

I would love for Lucy to return with a chip on her shoulder and see Phyllis react to the granddaughter who is in her image while a 50th anniversary crossover occurs with Sheila wanting to get to know her granddaughter, but we know Brad and Josh want us to forget Sheila's other relatives that aren't Finn.

Part of me feels like they only aged Faith in the first place because Alyvia Alyn Lind left for Chucky, and they saw an open opportunity, but they did not stick with it. Especially since Lind is 15 and Reylynn Caster (ex-Faith at this point) is 19, so they just caught up to Caster's real-life age.

I think they recast Faith out of spite, but I wonder was its part of budget cuts or a CBS note to have Josh and Co. let Faith and Moses go. You have no next generation if they keep doing this.

Between Amelia Heinle's child-like fringe and Melody Thomas Scott's extreme comb-over... I'm baffled at the hair department for this episode.

I had the same thoughts about that too...

How much longer is Harrison's mother going to stay in prison for a white collar crime?  If they bring her back I hope they recast!

Bree Williamson or Alexa Havins would be my choice for a Tara recast. Have her reign havoc with Summer and Kyle for about 3-6 months. While trying to get custody of Harrison as well as hands on her son's trust fund.

EJ's devotion to Susan feels sudden and does not reflect their history.

I get that he's experienced a lot of loss with the past few months, but I don't recall him feeling so close to Susan (I guess, to be fair, they've not shared a lot of scenes together through the years, I don't remember if Eileen's Susan was ever on screen with James Scott's EJ)

All I can remember that it seemed his EJ had been slightly embarrassed her with Sami teasing him about being protective of his mommy.

Exactly. Remember Juliet and her pointless affair with Cane? I thought she'd stick around and become the new bitch.

I think the actress could've used some red bull, but I think Juliet could've had potential. Especially if Cane and Lily would've gotten back together to win custody of the baby and she decided to get revenge.

Just over a year ago Victoria married Ashland.

12 months later he's dead and buried and forgotten.

Apart from saddling Kyle with a kid, are there any ramifications from that character and storyline?

I was hoping he and Diane would've bonded over being the "Black Sheeps of Genoa City" and they would've married shortly before Ashland's death making Diane inheritor of his empire which she uses to come after the ones who wronged her and to help Kyle, Harrison, and Jack.

I'm hoping for a spit-fire Lila Rae to come along, but you know we can't have nice things.   We'll be stuck with Joss til they tire of her. And we'll still be stuck with her after that.  🤣

This is what I want too. But I wouldn't hate Emma transferring to PCU. I'm like whichever happens first. 🤣

So what is the concensus around Josslyn and Dex? Yea/Nea?

This was really obvious though. The attraction feels like a repeat of Molly and Brando. It has traces of Jason and Carly where the guy supposedly involved in the mob needs the woman to talke care of him after being shot.

Josslyn and Dex are also a repeat of Zander and Emily and Liz and Jason though in my opinion Joss and Dex don't have that much chemistry in my opinion. Not to mention some missing factors from this story too.

Annika's Hope is too "Little House the Prairie" in comparison to Kim's Hope. KM's Hope was so much better

I think Annika is a decent actress, but I still do miss Kim Matula's Hope because it seemed, especially in the last year or two, that when she was on screen, Hope had become stronger in terms of personality, which seemed more Kim's input than the writing suggested. I still remember when she took that golf club through Bill's house.

Though when it comes to Annika, it seems like when she came back, she all of a sudden became this "bohemian heroine," which Hope wasn't before. Not to mention they make Hope sound overly passive at times; she should be firm when it comes to Liam and Thomas, not to mention Steffy. Though I believe that is a problem with the writing rather than the acting.

we’ll get a semi-decent Thanksgiving episode this year after last year’s trashy fantasy garbage with Phyllis and Gloria 🤮

I had forgotten all about that. Hopefully, Josh don't do singular character focused episodes ever again.
