Y&R is especially bad at keeping up those ancillary connections. Both in the case of former friends/lover but also extended family & step children.

For example if you weren't watching back then you'd have no idea Paul & Lauren were once married. I can't remember a solo scene between them post early 2000's.

Also thought it was a missed opportunity ignoring the connection between Kyle & Victor. They shared some really sweet paternal scenes during the Blake Hood/Maura West era. I can't recall MM's Kyle ever crossing paths with Victor.

Ditto for Jack and his former stepchildren. I get why he and Nick wouldn't be super close given the love triangles. But Victoria  and him seemingly never interact. Likewise Noah and Jack grew close during his marriage to Sharon, which the writers have collectively decided to pretend never happened.

    Other examples...Chance/Chloe, Sharon/Devon & Lily

Sharon and Lily do interact on occasion, but where else but at Crimson Lights? That's why I didn't mind when Neil died and willed Drucilla's jewelry to Sharon, knowing she admired it. though I wished they would have those two and Devon interact more.

I also wish they would have Ashley in scenes with Nate since she and Olivia are our best friends. It would undoubtedly go a long way toward humanizing him after the shenanigans he pulled with Devon. Before DD was acting a fool, I wanted scenes with Paul and Nate since he and Nathan were best friends and colleagues for so long too.

Britt and Rocco was bad enough but the whole Charlotte thing with Valentin has always been disgusting. That little girl is obnoxious and Valentin is such a creep. I'd de-Spencer her, send her away and murder him in a minute.

I'd forgotten the entire stupid "Claudette" plotline was just an excuse to get Bree Williamson on the show for about six minutes as idiot block of wood Nathan's Canadian ex-girlfriend, which fell apart quickly. It seemed like FV and Passanante badly wanted to make her stick, but she was gone remarkably fast (and IIRC killed offscreen).

And wasn't Claudette also connected to bland Griffin as well?

Joss and Dex can fall in love, etc. whatever, don't care. But I wish the show was willing to go the "Joss wanted to get FüCKED" route. Because Cam is sweet as pie, he's not blowing her back out. She wanted some D from the dangerous, older mafia enforcer. Play up that angle, it would give this some drive, some perspective.

I hope they do go there in some sort of fashion. I can see Cam asking Joss "Is it because he's more experienced than me?" However, I'll be cautiously optimistic if it comes to that.

The newer writers have missed the point in Y&R's business storylines.  Bell's business storylines -- which he did extremely well, in my opinion -- were never about the "business" itself; his storylines were about the interactions of the characters within the business, and how greed in the workplace, a bad business decision, or a careless remark made to a co-worker could set off a chain of events that impacted not only the employees of the company but everyone else within their circle.  The newer writers seem to think we care about who's the CEO of this company or who's the CEO of that company.  That means nothing to us at all, if we're not seeing their workplace interactions.

I couldn't say it better myself.

I'm tired of how Josh or CBS thinks we're only interested in the musical chairs of who is in and out as CEO.

There's a lot that can be done within the confines of Jabot or Newman to get characters to interact and tell a decent business storyline; perhaps they can rip from the headlines with stories about how certain hair relaxers cause uterine cancer and kidney disease. Maybe Safra or Tuvia products cause this for customers, and they're faced with several lawsuits having characters that work at these companies plot to stop the fallout.

Shelia is a villian. She should be getting the James Stenbeck treatment. Instead Bradley is forcing more of her on us. She's run her course.

I like Sheila, but it's obvious to me that Bradley doesn't have a set direction for this character. And is just ping-ponging her across the canvas. I wish they will bring one of her daughters onto the canvas and explore those relationships.

Any pairing that involves Y&R's Victoria (Amelia Heinle). The soap press acts like 'fans' are all over Victoria's romantic entanglements (particularly if it involves her and Billy) and I'm like "which fans? Who says this?"

I agree with this! I never understood the appeal of "Villy" at all!!! I thought they were wasting Billy Miller with Amelia's Victoria and her anemic performance. I never forget that time when Billy dragged an unkept looking Victoria through a bar to prove to her, he wasn't cheating.

Not until episodes of Loving popped up in the last few years, I would never know that Amelia was once so energetic and engaging as an actress.

CIN on DAYS: I think Victoria Konefal is beautiful and an engaging presence, but I would've recast Ciara when she left the show. And I think RSW is a handsome guy but the characters he plays, and the way plays them make me ask myself why did they bring him back?

That couple went through a decade worth of story in only three and a half years. Both characters needed purpose separately away from each other.

Robert newman said (not in an insulting way) that when he was on YR he was told they can't even afford to pay for background characters anymore 😪

I think that's quite obvious, as we see Sharon dispensing advice in an empty Crimson Lights, or as none of these characters have offices anymore to work out of at their respective companies. Most business is conducted in a coffeehouse or a happy hour cocktail lounge. What was Anthony Morina doing with the money? Was it all gone due to licensing fees being slashed, or did the cleaning during the pandemic empty their pockets as well? It's reminding me of when characters on As the World Turns were starting to do business deals at the yacht club and at the Lakeview Towers.

To be honest, there are a few characters who could be dropped to save money. I'm curious if this is why there hasn't been a younger generation in the last five years since Moses and Faith were ushered off the canvas.

there really hasn't been one but Kyle for example should be as Jack's son.

The situation regarding his birth and upbringing, his feelings about being an Abbott, his business acumen or lack thereof, relationship with his dad and aunts etc should be clearly defined and explored

But he comes across as a fairly basic nice guy. I like Michael Mealor and feel he could rise to the occasion if he was given more to work with.

We've had Fen,Ana, Imani, Ashland etc who all had tremendous potential but ended up being dropped to focus on the life and times of Phyllis.

Fen and Ana had the potential to be the next popular young couple with great chemistry, and both actors wanted it to happen, but a lack of creativity stymied their plans, and we all know what happened next.

Like others have said on this board, Ashland should've had grown adult children who could've mixed it up with Devon, Lily, Nate, Amanda, Abby, Chance, Sally Adam, etc., not to mention he and Diane should've gotten together to rule Genoa City. But Robert Newman would rather do love letters with Kim Zimmer in a barn in Michigan, and I can't blame him.

I think Imani had potential to be the next young, black, ambitious vixen on the show, as she was setting her sights on Nate. However, when Mishael Morgan got her Emmy and decided to leave to go pursue other work, they quickly dismissed Imani and Naya.

  8. For once, can they have Taggert mention not wanting Trina to get involved with Spencer because he doesn't want history to repeat itself like with Gia and Nikolas?

They did have him mention that he knows how ruthless the Cassadines can be, but it seems like they want to avoid referring to the past with Trina's aunt and Spencer's father, except for when Trina was revealed to be Taggert's daughter.

That sounds about right. There was something again in late 2019 when Zack came back again as Fen, fell off the wagon and was back in rehab again with Michael visiting him but it was some dumb plot point for Adam to have leverage over Michael.

It was so obvious that the show had written that Fen story to service Max Ehrich, except that Ehrich turned down the stint because of time restraints. I have no idea what Ehrich has been up to since his bout of emotional instability that went viral following his disastrous breakup with Demi Lovato.

I knew it had to do with Fen's substance abuse issues, but I forget the context since they didn't make it into a huge thing.

I’ll never stop hoping Fen is secretly Gay, and will come back with a boyfriend.

I'll never stop hoping Kevin is secretly gay/bisexual too at this point.

I was surprised to actually really like CS as Victor when he first came on despite it seeming like an epic miscast, because they went full on in the direction of Victor being a bon vivant and aging playboy with an evil side which is not dissimilar to how Thaao Penghlis played it back in the old days. (His 2010s stint moved him much closer to outright supervillainy, but he still had lots of smarm.) When CS first arrived they had Victor really camping it up forcing the Cassadines together, scheming, etc. I even wanted him to shanghai Laura into (a fake) marriage, I thought it'd be a blast. It was a very unique angle to take with a Cassadine baddie, a guy who was still having fun.

Unfortunately, over a year later he's actually done very little. The brainwashing nonsense was tedious, and didn't he have an actual weather machine he was using on the town again? What happened to that? He supposedly has killed Luke offscreen (I am not convinced TG will not turn up this year), yet Laura, Scorpio and Lucky who all would never stop until those responsible were dead, have done nothing? Where is the urgency? What is his plan?

I don't blame CS for this because I think he came on playing an unconventional bad guy in a fun way. But there is no actual direction that I can see. Or maybe I've missed the episodes where they explain any of it, but nothing seems to happen.

Once again, it seems Dan and Chris, Chris and Dan, had a different initial outlook on the character of Victor, and I think Charles Shaughnessy does bring charm to the role. Nonetheless, it appeared that the story changed on a dime when he was out of control of his surgery, which was out of his control.

Remember last year when Port Charles became unbearably hot? I thought they were going to do the weather machine again, but it's been a year, and nothing has happened. Either let Victor bring destruction or get rid of him, which I wouldn't mind happening by May sweeps.

I actually forgot he played Fen. Did he have any stories?

If I remember correctly, nope, I can remember them "chem-testing" he and Loren Lott's Ana. Fans and even both actors were excited for the possibility, but not long after, both were gone, and that's what they all wrote.

Oh, that's right! They were trying to break Fen into the music business, with Ana supporting him. But it wasn't memorable, and it seemed during that era every young male legacy character had to be a musician of some kind, i.e., Devon, Noah, etc.
