Was that Nathan dancing (standing) with Amy?

Good catch, I didn't notice that was Amy! I pulled up the full-screen vid on my big monitor, and that is not Nathan. I think Nathan doesn't debut until later in '84

They uploaded more clips on YouTube:

This is Lauren and Danny's music video that makes Paul jealous

Thanks... wow there is a LOT happening here, haha!

Danny and Lauren are singing "Against all odds" and they don't sound as bad as they usually do.  This is based on the Phil Collins song of the same name, specifically created for the Jeff Bridges movie of the same name. I haven't seen the movie but it does involve gambling/casinos, so maybe that's why their vid had that going on as well.

Danny reflected in Lauren's sunglasses was 80s iconic!

I appreciated the diversity of the dancers.

This clip must be July '84 b/c Patty looks super-pissed, so this must be right after she found out about Danny and Traci's marriage. Ken the manager is living his best life and is not "reading the room" at all that some people in the room don't seem so happy.

  3. @ltm1997 I watched The Talk live to see the TEB segment! It starts at 45 minutes past the hour. She looked amazing!  I’ll put a summary in spoilers in case people plan to watch soon.

    Spoiler

They showed brief clips… not her first ep 😕 Lauren with Danny (’83?) saying “I’m Lauren Fenmore”; Traci dumping the sundae; Paul and Lauren in bed together (must be ’84, since Lauren says “it’s our first summer together”); Lauren singing while crying, from the mid-80s; the June ’89 Danny concert where Lauren sang with Traci and Gina; Lauren confronting Sheila summer of ’90; Lauren and Sheila’s ’92 lab fight; and more recent clips.

She said Lauren was originally supposed to be a summer job and she was recruited by producer H Wesley Kenney. (She’s getting the chronology mixed up since she started in January)  She told the same story about Lauren giving Traci a look and that’s how Lauren the bitch was born.

She said Michael Damian taught her how to style her hair back in the 80s.

She said Lauren had to slap Danny once but it took 10 takes b/c Tracey was so scared to hurt Michael Damian.

She called Lauren and Michael the “most outstanding love story ever” uh ok 😊

Tracey’s ’85 Emmy statue was destroyed in a wildfire a few years ago. Christian Le Blanc walked out to give her a replacement Emmy. She seemed surprised and it was sweet.

It's just my interpretation of the storyline. I feel it's been carefully paced with Joshua and that the seeds have been there from the start, but others can feel differently.

I still enjoy Cathy, but I miss when she was central to story, in the thick of things with Gary and Abby which feels like a lifetime ago. Lisa Hartman is capable of a lot but they've really just had her as a suffering appendage to the Joshua storyline so far this season when she could be doing a lot more. I don't think they had much of a plan for Cathy beyond S5, and I think that's been borne out in some BTS interviews (though the writers seem to not be as fond of her original storyline vs. her later one with Joshua). I don't think she needed to stay paired with Gary; it was right to turn left, surprise the audience and re-unify him and Abby in the refreshing way they have. And I didn't have a problem with Cathy getting a new love interest, but she's just been cargo for Joshua's story since then. It's too bad because she could've had a stronger run on the show overall post-Ciji.

Things don't really improve for the rest of Cathy's run IIRC... there's a plot point in '86 (post Joshua and right before Lisa Hartman quits) that is rather heinous on Cathy's part, and seems totally plot-driven and reflecting a lack of moral compass for Cathy.

KnotsLanding.net is a beloved treasure trove of info, but one annoying quirk is that all interviews are always incorrectly marked with a current date.  This Constance interview happened years ago, and it says Jan 2023! I don't know any way to identify the true interview publication date...

I personally don't feel the Joshua shift is rushed or out of nowhere; I think it's been baked into the character's neuroses and narrow worldview since his introduction and early months, when he innocently suggested Val was being punished by God with a miscarriage. I think fame and power is shifting him just enough, bit by bit and inch by inch (with Abby's influence at Pacific World), to start solidifying into his worst self and flexing his power, lording things over first Cathy then his family and household, and the viewing public. Anyway: Joshua manages to charm Cathy into somehow taking back thanks to his riding around on a scooter. K.

Thank you for your meticulous documentation of Joshua's character development! I'm glad to hear it was more thought-out and long-term than I remembered. On the flip side, what's your take on the character of Cathy Geary? Thinking back, and reading your recaps, she just seems like a non-person... a cipher of a character who morphs into whatever plot point is needed. Like you said, why does she crumble and return to Joshua simply b/c he acts goofy on a scooter?

Are you gonna add any more August episodes for 2020, for B&B? There's only 4

This isn't really the thread for that... this is more for technical issues related to the vault. Head to the classic BB thread to post a request for eps you'd like added to the vault.

Just found this, the first three segments of a 1994 episode (filmed from the tv). This is from June 16, 1994! :D

Wow… post April/Heather departure and pre JoshuaM debut…good find!

I don’t know why so many people are so hard on the 1996 year of YR! I really enjoyed the Nick vs Matt story + Shick.. And Ryan

Most of ‘96 wasn’t bad. It went downhill Nov and Dec 96, worsening into the first half of ‘97

That scene is actually from August 24, 1987 :) . I think the partial episode is in the vault, and that's indeed where Nina and Jill were briefly in cahoots, because Cricket was in the car with Phillip when he was drunk driving, and Jill was trying to get Cricket fired from her modeling gig, because she kept the truth from Jill. I think Nina was the one who blabbed on Cricket? haha.

Thanks! I knew both their hairdos didn’t look like ‘89 hairdos 😂

Thanks for keeping up with the unlisted stuff! There's a clip of this date in those "Brad in the cage" clips that used to be on YouTube, but the clip in the Vault is 9:55 and this is 19:45. Maybe @YRfan23 can figure out if this is new material or if part of it is a different episode.

I'm pretty sure there's some new stuff. I've definitely never seen Lauren’s sly move of putting on the ski mask... felt like something that would happen on Scooby-Doo 🤣

This was a good ep.  Even though I already know how the Lisa/Brad story resolves, it still felt quite tense.

The Nikki/Victor/Leanna scenes were spiky and fun! Nikki knows she’s carrying the cards and is enjoying torturing Leanna. I didn’t realize that Victor and Leanna already knew that the marriage was invalid. So I guess they decided to stay together and wait until the 6-month divorce waiting period is over.

Ugh Nikki used my least favorite term ever “Heir Apparent”🙄  Doesn’t she know that only Jack can ever be the heir apparent? Bill Bell really loved to bust that phrase out at any opportunity.

Cassandra seems more of a straightforward tragic heroine here. I think the writers had no idea who George’s killer would be, and hadn’t even invented the character of Adrian yet.

Hmmm the Jill/Nina scene at the end… is that from the same ep? I’m almost wondering if it’s from 1987? That’s the only time I can remember them being in cahoots like that… and it’s implied that Nina is still working at Jabot…?

One of the rare instances where they actually acknowledged it was Halloween on the show. I feel like that didn't begin until Kay Alden took, over and other writers just continued it.

Thanks for posting - I enjoyed it! It helped that there was no Shick 😂

This was a transitional time where there was still some interesting plot movement. In another month or so, everything grinds to a halt. I’d say Kurt saving Ashley from the attackers around Thanksgiving is the beginning of the boring era.

A partial upload of June 13, 1988 popped up!

Finally had time to watch this. It's really impressive that, during the middle of the writer's strike, the show had 4 different promising stories starting to heat up… ex-wife Lisa clearly not well in the head; George Rawlins’ mysterious problem that he needs Paul to investigate; Leanna pumping vulnerable Nikki for dirt; and Jessica’s health failing.

The only dud scene, similar to the recent July ’84 ep we saw, is Danny’s blonde love interest gazing adoringly on while he sings.  Though I’m very curious to see the “Homeless Concert” someday, and whether Nikki took Danny up on his invite to attend, or if the writers had moved on from that plot.

One thing confused me – it appeared that Leanna and Jack were about to have sex. But I thought she was a “man-hater” who only thawed for Victor Newman due to his TGVN virility. Maybe Leanna and Jack apparently hooking up was a “writer’s strike” mistake?

The factory was shown back in the 70's when Liz worked there, around 1974.

I'd say 1980 when Derek was scheming to take over with Judy, I am pretty sure they showed them at Chancellor

After that I don't think so.

I think there were some one-off scenes in the late 80s with Rex or Phillip III at their Chancellor office desk, but that was just a “limbo set”
