  1. S2E4 “Murder One”

Joanna Cassidy!! I had no idea. This was filmed just months after the iconic Blade Runner was released, starring Joanna as a killer android.

What a cool move Chao-Li pulled at 16:00 to block the reporter. And then Chao-Li and Lance doing tai-chi in sync was beautiful to watch. I know Chao-Li will never get a real front-burner story but I appreciate the little character moments.

Maggie slumped over a typewriter and fretting for Cole is not the story I wanted for her. When the series started, she was a fully fleshed-out character but now she’s thinly drawn… just serving the plot.

I’m sorely tempted to switch my limited viewing hours to the 100 vintage eps of YR that were just added… but I’ve finally reached peak era Falcon Crest and am loving it, so I’ll stick with FC.

    You're welcome guyz

Et voila ! I've just posted the last part:

    22 of 1997, 5 of 1998 & 5 of 1999 :)

    enjoy !

Late 1997 is so rare! I’ve wanted to see more of Nina’s crisis and early Veronica. Thank you!

  3. Just finished s2ep3 "Troubled Waters" with the murder of Carlo Agretti.  The plot twists keep coming! Wow, this much-improved show has no resemblance to the season 1 episodes-of-the-week format.

I am spoiled to who is the murderer. Does anyone know- did the writers already pick the murderer when they wrote the episode? Or did they decide later? I remember reading that the s2 finale cliffhanger had alternate scenes filmed with all cast members confessing they were the killer.

but the entire first meeting of Angela and Richard I think sets everything in motion for the rest of the series.

The original villainess is a business-minded messy matriarch that attempts to control the lives of her daughters and grandson and takes down her enemies with words and not bitch slaps. The new villain is dangerous and mean yet wounded from a childhood devoid of love with a longing to be part of a family and that inner woundedness and longing is in conflict with the dangerous and mean exterior.

In that first meeting, each knows they have met their match. After all, game recognizes game.

After seeing that unfold, I was like "I'm totally down for this".

oooh you've got me really excited... I'm barely spoiled for any of seasons 2 or 3 so it's all fresh to me.

  5. Resuming my Falcon Crest viewing after a break…

Ep 16 - so much better than Ep 15 “Heir Apparent” aka the drunk driving afternoon special - the difference is night and day. Hopefully the show has permanently abandoned the “episode of the week” format.

Notable that this ep is directed by Bill Duke. This ep was shortly after his big break directing episodic TV with Knots Landing.

@Vee, don’t know if you’re a FC fan, but I thought of you watching this ep.. there’s some cool Bill Duke directorial flourishes in this ep, like the framing of the scene at 34:00 when Melissa walks in on Lance and his one-nighter… and at the end when Melissa tells Lance she’s pregnant and she stuffs wedding cake in his gaping mouth as the photographer takes the “perfect picture”. (Also see below, Bill Duke directs another ep soon after)

Ep 17 - Notable for Chao-Li speaking more than 1 sentence and not just being a background character. Unfortunately he’s still limited to carrying out Angela’s orders. He has such a compelling natural presence that I want to see more of him, and in his own story.

Stephen Elliott as Douglas Channing - he was a bit stiff in the beginning. But he eventually won me over with his warm portrayal of a father to Emma and Julia. Douglas’ offer to take Emma to Paris was so poignant. I can’t help but wonder if Douglas should have lived longer? Did the plot demand he die in this episode? Time will tell… but meanwhile, what a dramatic moment! Angela vs Chase is officially on!

DA Martin Deering played by original Spider-Man and Sound of Music veteran Nicholas Hammond!

I feel like Maggie got lost as a front-burner character as the season progressed. She’s devolved into a supportive and suffering wife. I’m confident season 2 will bring Maggie back to the spotlight she deserves.

Haha Angela doesn’t care one way or another whether Lance is the father of Melissa’s baby.

Ep 18 - Margaret Ladd was the MVP of this finale. There were some LOL moments like at the end when Angela told Emma to come along and Emma said “no thank you mother, when a gentleman (Cole) drives you somewhere, he’ll drive you home too” and Chase kissing Angela on the cheek after their devil’s bargain.

Richard Channing’s name is introduced like a bolt of lightning out of the blue! Quite the set-up.

Ep 19 - solid season-starter. They played a little fast-and-loose with the timeframe in advancing Melissa’s pregnancy, but we’ll let it slide.

David Selby, hmmm… what do people think of him? From my viewings back in the 80s of seasons 5 and later, he struck me as lacking in sex appeal and low-wattage in charisma. But I hope to be proven wrong!

Shannon Tweed - this is perhaps her first speaking part? Not Oscar-worthy but she has a nice presence that fits her role. I remember her saying in an interview that Diana was only slated for a few eps but it kept getting extended to last the full season.

Ep 20 - Bill Duke again! There’s a fantastic long tracking shot following Melissa as she arrives at the surprise baby shower and is greeted by all the guests.

LOL that Angela literally vows war to Chase’s face multiple times and he continues to be cordial.

I continue to have no interest in Jamie Rose’s Vicki. Hopefully her upcoming May-December romance with Roy Thinnes is a bit more compelling.

@kalbir - is the scene you mentioned the one where

    Spoiler

Richard stabs the chair with the letter opener after Angela calls his birth an unfortunate accident? Fantastic scene that sets the stage for the season!

There’s multiple consequences from Gary’s rash move, so it’s not it’s just dropped and forgotten.  But yea.. it was confusing

I’m pretty deep into 1992 and this is just see tv. I’m stunned when you look at how dull 1991 was.

Sheila has been a seamless addition and I don’t think this would be written nearly this well on a soap today. They’re acknowledging her history but presenting her in a way that it makes sense these people accept her. Today, I feel they’d be too tempted to reveal her crazy and it wouldn’t work. Her chemistry with Eric is scorching and I also love her relationships with Brooke and Kristin.

Speakinf of Kristin, I expected her to return for Taylor and Ridge’s wedding and had no idea this was an extended visit. The way they weaved into the Spectra storyline with Clarke worked really well and I’m surprised she didn’t stick around. I also love that they’ve developed her relationship with Felicia and used those two characters to usher in the Bikini Bar (a brilliant location). Zach and Sly are great additions and Felicia finally feels like a character worth watching.

Karen’s intro was pretty successful and I’m enjoying the triangle with her, Thorne and Macy. I also like Bill being back in the mix and having a family member to interact with. His romance with Darla was also a genius move.

The Brooke/Ridge/Taylor/Stephanie/Eric mess has a lot of interesting layers and is riveting tv as well.

The most shocking thing is that there is SO much going on and all of these stories are well balanced in terms of importance. That is so anti-modern B&B. It’s truly shocking how good and complex the show it and it makes me sad to think about how it is now. Just looking at this year, there are so many ideas they could pluck to make the modern show better. More storylines and the Bikini bar for the younger characters would be key things they could use.

99% agree except Zach didn’t fully click for me. Will be interested in your take on that story when you reach the end of ‘92

Actually, @yrfan1983, I wouldn't mind if Michael Corbett returned to Y&R, but not as David, and only after Tricia Cast returns for an extended visit.  I'd want to see Nina's reaction to the newcomer who bares more than a striking resemblance to her late husband!

I desperately want to see your superior version of 2023 YR

Now it can be told: it wasn't David who went through that shredder; it was Chase, whom David had murdered some time before, but kept his body on ice, "just in case," lol.

Ha!! Good one! Josh Griffith will probably steal your idea now.

  10. Watching the Dec ’90 Danny and Cricket clips… I’ll always wonder what happened to Chase as played by Stephen Gregory…?

During this timeframe, he is fully involved in the David Kimball plot… realizing that the woman he had dated, Cathy, was actually named Vivian… and had died in a freak accident. He also was being targeted for information by Diane.

By early Feb ’91, he disappears (assumedly without a farewell scene) just as the David plot approaches the climax with Nina shooting him.

Did something happen behind-the-scenes to hasten Chase’s exit? It would have made much more sense and heightened the dramatic tension even more, if David somehow murdered Chase just as Chase had discovered evidence to nail David.

Also - it’s sad and ironic when Cricket fills in Danny about Scott and Lauren breaking up over “another woman”… and Danny vowing the same thing will never happen to them… and LITERALLY the same thing happens, as both Sheila and Phyllis drugged and raped their respective targets Scott and Danny.

Hello. I’m new to this group. Just wanted to say hi. I’ve watched YR since 1981 (in summers) til the family got a vcr in 1988. Then I dubbed only Danny and Cricket scenes. I’very been uploading what I have to the vault. Looking for beginning of 1992 to around august as my vcr tape of that time  got ate. I know they aren’t everyone’s fave but I like their chemistry. Just wanted to say hi!

Hi @bgrape, thank you so much for uploading these clips! I’ve made it through most of the ’90 Danny and Cricket scenes. I really enjoyed seeing everything starting in June, when they moved in together as “roommates”. I appreciated seeing the maturation towards marriage for the first time. I also didn’t realize that Cricket had an entire rehearsal period before her 8/15/90 dance performance, so it was fun to see that :)

Most of all, I enjoyed the Nov post-wedding scenes in the “after wedding three” file. Most of these scenes have not been previously available, except for the helicopter ride. I didn’t realize they had so many memorable honeymoon outings, filmed on location! I did have to laugh at how often the camera focused on the “Hyatt Regency” logo :) I’m sure the Hyatt gave them free hotel rooms in exchange for being featured on the show. But wow, filming on location elevates the production value immensely… even just the scenes in bed in their room… the natural Hawaiian light on D&C’s faces was just exquisite.

After the helicopter dropped them off after their ride, the entire segment with them at the beach was a blast. It was set to the song “Call it love” by Poco which was a big hit at the time but I hadn’t heard in a long time. I never thought I would have seen Michael Damian in a grey leopard-print speedo! :)

I also really appreciated seeing the developments in the David story. I was always confused how D&C went from trusting David to suspecting him. I’m still a little confused, as I don’t understand how they ever started to trust him. In fact, in the post-wedding scenes, Cricket gives him a kiss on the cheek after he arranges for their ride on a private yacht! But then at the end of the “after wedding three” file, D&C have a conversation when they reasonably try to puzzle out who could have framed Danny for the cocaine and circled back to David.

I can’t wait to move on to the Jan ’91 scenes… there has literally been zero content ever available for Jan ’91 so this is incredibly special. Thanks again

I'm really excited to be enjoying the show so much and also knowing Sheila is right around the corner. I feel like I've been waiting forever for her arrive and never thought I'd get to that point. It's been so lovely seeing the show evolve over time.

You will not be disappointed by the '92 Summer of Sheila! She is perfectly woven into the fabric of the show.

Controversial take here, but I think the Williams family was added on in an attempt to get the African-American audience away from NBC.

I always cringe thinking back to the press "Knots Landing's first african-american family!" like it was something to celebrate vs something to be ashamed of, that it took until season 9

Thanks! Fun to see WGE relaxed and enjoying himself. I always wondered if he was similar to his stern cranky character Snapper.

Considering that The Colby's never established it's own identity, coming off as Dynasty lite, what do you posters think they should have done with a spin off to overcome those issues?

At the time, with Dynasty riding high,ABC obviously wanted to replicate the mother show's success and thought more of the same was the way to go. But the casting, writing and timeslot didn't help.

Should Jeff have been the character to move over? If not who? Or if it was Jeff should his family have been structured differently?

You guys always have great ideas, so put your talents towards your take on a Dynasty spin off!

Woo back Pamela Sue Martin to lead the spinoff! ( no offense to Emma Samms but it wasn’t the same)

@yrfan1983 You're at the home stretch. Episode 12 is a game changer.

Wow, you're weren't kidding... ep 12 changed the game! Night and day. The ep had a much-needed narrative propulsion, and an umbrella story to bring all the characters together in a compelling way.

Lana Turner floated down to Tuscany like an angel from heaven. Her performance is glossy in that classic manner - she is acting on an entirely different show than all of the other characters. But it didn't matter - Jacqueline vs Angela in the cemetery was a clash of the titans. And Lana did have palpable maternal chemistry with Robert Foxworth.

Even Vickie wasn't as annoying as usual. I'm glad I stuck it out in watching all the previous eps. I needed to see ep 9 "Dark Journeys" to understand how Vickie is flailing in her life and would grasp her grandmother and life in France like a life-preserver.

Emma continues to be the MVP scene-stealer. I also enjoyed Julia's enjoyment at Angela's discomfort.

    Can't wait for Lana's return!

PS - how sad that Dolores Cantu's entire stint in ep 11 as Melissa Agretti consisted of a scene with one line "Oh, that would be wonderful!" They could have just cut her scene entirely. Bring on Ana-Alicia!

I think FC's biggest problem, aside from the questionable cast choices, was that it never knew what kind of soap it wanted to be.  Did it want to be gritty, for lack of a better word, like DALLAS; or did it want to be glamorous, like DYNASTY?  Instead, FC tried to have it both ways, and it just didn't work.

Shannon Tweed said as much in an ‘86 SOD interview, when she was on Days, and reminiscing on her time on FC. She was grateful for FC showing her the ropes of television acting, such as which camera to face when. But she criticized the lack of glamour on FC… she wondered why the show didn’t go “all the way”, like Dynasty did.
