Is anybody else currently having trouble downloading videos from the Vault to their computers or is it just me?

I just tried downloading BnB 1773 from the Vault and it worked fine.  I'm on a Macbook.  The current Vault is still active and working until further notice. The only thing that has changed is that it's not possible to upload anything.

It was another solid fun episode overall (minus Danny and Lauren’s singing…haha) even from the few scenes I’ve seen of Danny and LIllibets Patty, I can definitely notice the more natural chemistry he had with her compared to Andrea Evans.

The Victor/Cora scenes really got to me. It’s nice to see a vulnerable Victor in denial about his mothers illness, and thinking she’s gonna live longer then expected. I liked the seeds being planted for Matt’s arrival, although I wonder if they could have just brought him on now while the Cora story was going on?

man, after that kiss Dina laid on John, I don’t blame Jill for being insecure. John didn’t seem like he totally rejected it either.

Poor Andrea Evans... having to sit through that loooong song... gazing into Danny's eyes, and then looking down, and then back up again... and repeat 🤣 That song "Never gonna let you go" is another Sergio Mendes song, just like "Alibis" - maybe Sergio is a YR fan :)

There's clipped Vault scenes from perhaps the following ep, when a dejected Traci informed Danny that she is actually not getting back with Tim. Ouch that had to be a tough thing for Danny to tell Patty.

I was annoyed with Nikki for not honoring Cora's wish to be moved to a hospital... but I have to remember that Nikki is still pretty immature at this point despite being a newly-married glamorous socialite.

Also with Matt's story arc in 1985-1987 I wonder if he was brought on to be a Jack replacement in the Jack/Nikki/Victor/Ashley quad in case Terry Lester left for primetime.

Kinda felt that way…. Matt was a bad boy when he debuted, right around when TL quit in summer ‘85. But then TL agreed to come back a couple months later, making Matt redundant. Matt morphed into a generic Dudley do right and around summer ‘86, after Jack went to jail and broke up with Nikki, the show half-heartedly added Matt back into the quad, but that soon faded. I’m really surprised Matt lasted as long as Sept ‘87

  4. I can not properly express my gratitude and happiness to J's Classic TV and YRfan23...I'm going to make a cup of tea, cuddle up under a blanket on this cool fall day, and cue up this vintage YR... life is good... 🤗

Dorothy Lyman (Bonnie Roberts) was only on contract for a few weeks. She was bumped to recurring in episode 1230 and made a few more appearances before departing the show for good.

Little jump to season 10: The following cast members were on contract in September 1996.

    • Landry Allbright – Bridget Forrester
    • Tracey E. Bregman – Lauren Fenmore
    • Kimberlin Brown – Sheila Carter
    • Ian Buchanan – James Warwick
    • Darlene Conley – Sally Spectra
    • Barbara Crampton – Maggie Forrester
    • Bobbie Eakes – Macy Alexander
    • Susan Flannery – Stephanie Forrester
    • Charles Grant – Grant Chambers
    • Brent Jasmer – Sly Donovan
    • Katherine Kelly Lang – Brooke Logan
    • John McCook – Eric Forrester
    • Daniel McVicar – Clarke Garrison
    • Ronn Moss – Ridge Forrester
    • Dylan Neal – Dylan Shaw
    • Lindsay Price – Michael Lai
    • Kyle Sahiby – C.J. Garrison
    • Lark Voorhies – Jasmine Malone
    • Maitland Ward – Jessica Forrester

Despite being featured on the opening credits, Jeff Trachta (Thorne) and Schae Harrison (Darla) were only recurring. In turn, Brent Jasmer (and child actors Allbright and Sahiby) were not included in the opening credits.

Thanks, love these details! Dorothy Lyman was also recurring at the time on "Life Goes On" as Chad Lowe's mom, so maybe she wasn't available enough for BnB.

Interesting in '96 that Bridget is on contract but her older brother Rick isn't.

    From SOD

Bill Bell interview re working with Lee.

"We don't write together per se. We talk a lot",Bill Bell explained when asked how he and wife Lee collaborate.

"Lee is a pipeline and a source for good story material-especially when it comes to social issues-but we don't sit down and write out projected storylines in the formal sense. We just sort of make it up as we go along.Lee is very pivotal to a lot of story and character ideas, but I am the thrust of the show.I do all the daily blocking on B&B,that is I do the outlines for the scriptwriters.I block both shows in the long term sense. And you have to sort of streamline the operation if you're going to be doing the amount of work that we're doing. But there are really no shortcuts in the terms if the thought process. You have to work on something until it feels right. At least I do.I go on my instincts.

"A storyline is really a process of trial and error. I've always said that everyone that I work with that there is no such thing as a bad idea, because any idea can be a catalyst to a better idea,it may open the door to something else.so,there aren't disagreements in that sense of tension.Tension stifles people and that is the last thing you want when you are working as a group to create something.Lee and I tend to mesh.Lee plugs into my psyche and we have developed some very memorable stories together. We read each other well. And I think we understand that the key to a partnership,is that, ultimately one person must prevail.it's never the kind of thing where we are at opposite ends of the spectrum and then I prevail. It's usually that I know I am going to be developing the story and I know what feels comfortable and what doesn't.

If it doesn't feel comfortable to me,then I don't do it.I can't do it.I would say that I think there should be a separation of responsibility if you want to keep compatibility. If we're both working on the same words or on the same scene on the same scripts, sooner or later you're going to have a difference of opinion. You're bound to.In a working relationship, those differences co-exist.

"One exciting aspect of working on a new show-and Y&R-is that my whole family is here. The kids are learning so much about the business(Lauralee plays Cricket on Y&R,Bradley is on B&B's writing team, while Bill Jr is involved in production.)Frankly that is one of the reasons B&B exists.CBS had been after me for ten years to do another show and I felt I had my hands full with Y&R.But I wanted them to see the excitement,to see everything that goes into the making of a serial.so,we're all in it together.People ask me what we do to get away from it.The answer is nothing. We don't want to get away from it.We thrive on it."

Thanks for this! I always wondered what Lee’s contribution was. I’m still unclear after reading this 🤣  sounds like she was a sounding board for Bill and helped him brainstorm? She had an Executive Producer credit.

  7. @Broderick - I keep meaning to ask you, with your amazing encyclopedic memory of the vintage years - what's your take on the 1980 cult story?

On one hand - of course I want to see it.

On the other hand... it just sounds kind of lurid (i.e. - Peggy Brooks is swarmed by rats!!) And the character of cult leader Sumiko reads on paper like an awful Dragon Lady stereotype.

Wait, is that actually Beth Maitland's voice?

It is! There was a short-lived plot in '84-85 where Traci attempted her own singing career, so BM sang on the show quite a bit, but I think that story got dropped.

(Evidently, Lauralee Bell must sound like a frawg, or Daddy would've had her singing daily, lol.)

This truly made me LOL! Thanks for the daily laugh. Daddy didn't even have Cricket sing some corny patriotic song on the 4th of July.

(Cricket did perform a god-awful choreographed dance during Danny's '90 concert, which highlighted LLB's lack of musicality)

  10. Agreed… TEB sounds better on Alibis than MD!
I wonder if TEB ever took singing lessons after the show insisted she sing…

So there’s so many reasons why Traci might have been crying…

    -    She’s in love with Danny and is jealous that Lauren is sharing this special experience with him

    -    She’s professionally jealous of Lauren as Traci also wants to be a singer but feels she doesn’t measure up

    -    She’s traumatized that Lauren just basically admitted to trying to manipulate Traci’s relationships, for unknown reasons

    -    She’s still in love with Tim, and the lyrics to Alibis are flashing her back to when she walked in on Tim sleeping with another woman

This is the type of layered writing from Bill Bell that I love and makes YR so special!

  11. Question - why do you think Traci is crying as she watches Danny and Lauren's performance?

(and no, I don't mean b/c their singing makes Traci's ears hurt 🤣)

At first the answer seems simple, but the more I thought about it (while I was out exercising, my favorite time to ponder YR 😄), the answer seems more complex...

Didn't Bill Bell attempt a triangle w/ Ashley/Eric/Marc but it tanked? Not long after that Ashley entered Victor's orbit and the rest is history.

Yep… Ashley and Eric were engaged but she was destroyed to find out that Eric had previously been the lover of her mother Dina. She escaped to Paris and met Marc, who she developed feelings for. She returned to GC, reconciled with Eric, but was shocked to find Marc had followed her to GC.  She almost married Eric but fled the church the day of the wedding (I guess because she had conflicting feelings for Marc?)

This then led to a full-blown “triangle” but as you said, neither the Eric or Marc actors were a match for ED, so it was doomed to fail.

  13. What a glorious episode!  It wasn’t even that eventful but it definitely kept my attention. The show was firing on all cylinders at this point.  Jack was in full scoundrel playboy mode… making kissing motions towards Diane as he walked past Andy… thumbing through his black book before Lindsey walks in… this is why Jack was the character viewers “love to hate”.

I’m frustrated by Diane’s indecision and was shocked at first when she was mad at Andy instead of being contrite. But their exchange had a true-life ring to it… I’m sure many viewers had found themselves in a similar situation. Overall, I really don’t like that this leads to Alex D being let go in a few short weeks, and Diane’s story ending on a very weak note.

I really appreciated the dialogue writing in this ep… Lauren K really sparkled in her scenes with Jack – verbally jousting with him… flirting and blackmailing at the same time :)
And I adored Danny and Traci’s talk with Mamie! When Mamie complimented Danny’s singing, he said “Thank you” and she said “you’re welcome” and I just so appreciate that it sounds like an actual normal real-life conversation ❤ certainly a lost art on soap operas.  I also loved Traci and Mamie’s palpable familial bond. It reminds me that the ’91 scenes with Traci and Veronica Redd Forest’s Mamie rang totally false, with no feeling of true familial bond to me.

I feel like maybe I did see the original airing of this ep (as a 12-year-old), because the Danny Lauren performance felt familiar… I remember thinking how sexy and glamorous they looked, and how removed and sad Traci must have felt… that Traci felt it was unattainable for her to ever be in Lauren’s place.
Watching it now, I’m thinking – yikes, Danny and Lauren sounds terrible! Individually, they sound ok, but their harmony is non-existent. I blame Michael D because his harmony with Beth M also sounds awful.
But wow… “Alibis” by Sergio Mendes! Talk about a forgotten ‘80s hit. I had to pull up the original on Youtube… sounds great but I don’t think I’ve heard it in almost 40 years. Looks like it only hit #29 on the chart. Surprising, but then 1984 was a huge year for pop music! Madonna, Van Halen, Prince, Tina Turner, etc. etc. no wonder Sergio Mendes didn’t rise to the top.
Why did the camera keep cutting to the local “City Scene” tv host? Maybe IRL he’s a local celebrity or something? He did make me lol the way he was bopping his head…

I love playful touches such as the camera lingering on Marc’s bare legs. These small efforts really elevates scenes in way that soaps don’t have the time to do any more. Jill and Marc were fun, though I’m starting to see some signs that BrendaD is losing track of her grounded manner of acting, and is leaning towards campy… it feels more like Jill is flirting *at* Marc, talking past him, than truly trying to flirt with him. Anyway, seems like their affair, once over, was never discovered and never referenced again.

The one bust in this episode is the character of Eric. Such a slick “Ken doll”… why is Ashley wasting her time with him? I feel like Ashley would be drawn to someone with more depth and complexity… hmm like Victor!

I watched all the commercials and it brought back a lot of great nostalgia… like the “Hanes #12 inspector”, “Sizzlean”, and especially Robert S Woods (One Life to Live!) giving tips on how to “never let ‘em see you sweat!” ❤

  14. Up to 1589… wow, I am in awe how the show is firing on all cylinders. Every story is working for me. The only scenes I FF through are Ridge and Taylor’s multiple rounds of lovemaking.

How fun was the Fabio bachelorette party! Back when soaps had a budget. So interesting for Taylor to be in the mix. It bothers me that Taylor, the psychiatrist, is so clearly judgmental with people.  First, she was almost hostile with Sheila, without a straightforward reason. One could chalk that up to Taylor being a shrewd judge of character. But then she is not welcoming to Macy. Geez, Taylor and Macy are sisters-in-law! Why can’t Taylor show some empathy to Macy, instead of immediately putting on her psychiatrist hat?

Interesting that Macy broke up with Sly off-screen. I would have liked to have seen that! At least we saw the aftermath. But the writers definitely downplayed the fact that Macy must have been very sad to be with Sly romantically. Like – we should have seen Macy and Sly start to have sex, and Macy trying to keep herself from crying.
Macy’s “dark night of the soul”, where she rolled around the gutter among the garbage and the rats, reminded me a bit of Days ’95 Mar-Devil when Marlena was wandering through the slums trying to fight off the devil and ended up naked at Bo and Billie’s engagement party. But with Macy, I think the show could have gone much further with her “hitting bottom”.

The character of Jack is an enigma to me, and kind of a bust. I have no concept how Jack feels about Sally or how Jack really feels about Stephanie. Chris Robinson was such a success on General Hospital, but so generic on B&B. I guess it’s thus the writer’s fault?  I’m assuming Sally and Jack’s impending wedding doesn’t come to pass. Surprised Jack makes it up til 1995.

I feel like something went sideways story-wise with Steve Crown. On one ep – Eric gave Steve a deadline of one week to get close to Brooke. Next ep and the next 20 eps – Steve is absent and that plot point is ditched. Steve then only appears for 2 more eps to wrap up the story, before Elliott takes over as the lawyer. I wonder if something happened off-screen with Perry Stephens that prevented him appearing more. I’m so used to seeing Robert Gentry on All My Children with a moustache. So strange to see him on B&B clean-shaven!

Sally means the lack of support from Stephanie and the rest of the Forresters. Or in Sally's view: the family always showed hostility and/or lack of trust to Macy because they hate Sally.

The only real event shown onscreen: the police going after Macy on behalf of the Forresters over the theft of the BeLieF formula.

Thanks… aw that makes me sad. Stephanie could have been a good mother figure for Macy if she had put forth the effort.
