  1. I couldn't help but take an advance peek at the newly-uploaded eps to confirm exactly when Kimberlin Brown returned from maternity leave 😇  She returns in a cameo in 1764 and returns in a full ep in 1768.

Does anyone know the original airdates of 1764 and 1768?

It's strange to see Molly so warm and maternal with Sheila, and Sheila so friendly and non-hostile/not-homicidal towards Molly!

Eternal thanks as always to the Uploading Angel!

  2. Thanks for the nice memories, Vee.

Isn't this around the time that Diana takes an exit (off-screen, someone else just mentions it) to visit Uncle Joe in New York? I don't want to spoil anything, but I find Claudia Lonow's final eps as Diana to be quite curious. I'll comment once you've reached early season 6.

  3. I just finished 1564… is it just me or did the plot accelerate very quickly out of nowhere…?

Previously, Eric had given Steve Crown a 1-week “ticking clock” to get close to Brooke and get rid of Connor Davis.

Suddenly, in 1564, Connor has learned of the Belief patent and will receive the patent file the next day, so now we have a new 24-hour “ticking clock”!

Additionally, Ridge only just departed to Monte Carlo in ep 1560 for business, but also to decide btw Taylor and Brooke… and now in 1564 he’s already returning!

Feels like the writers decided that things were moving too slowly…?

The whole story seemed pretty much unplanned - very Josh Griffith.

Really at that point they should have got a few years out of Nikki/Josh to delay the inevitable Victor /Nikki reunion. They were always more interesting apart.

Married in October-when was he killed?

End of Mar ‘98 so they were married a year and a half

  5. Upon my recent '96 viewing, I was shocked how fast Nikki and Joshua progressed... they had their first date in August, he proposed in September, and they married in October.

He was definitely milquetoast, but they had a nice easy romantic chemistry, and I think Nikki may have been content to remain married to him, if it wasn't for that pesky psychotic former wife.

  6. Ok, I dug through the SOC yearly recaps to figure out what happened to Victor and Nikki’s ’98 remarriage…

    •    Summer ’98 – Diane reveals she is still legally married to Victor. Somehow this is resolved and V&N resume their marriage
    •    Spring ’99 – they are separated when Victor is kidnapped. Victor bonds with Ramona and Nikki reconnects with Brad
    •    Summer and fall ’99 – V&N’s relationship deteriorates as Victor won’t have his vasectomy reversed to have another child with Nikki, and later she is betrayed to find out about his sperm sample. Brad tries to lure Nikki away and Ramona continues to lurk around.
    •    2000 – Nikki separates from Brad, and is still married to Victor but their relationship is shaky. He is betrayed by Nikki bailing out Jabot from bankruptcy. I assume their divorce is processed sometime late 2000?
    •    2001 – not much V&N romance, they are occupied with other stories
    •    Spring ’02 – V&N reconnect, and Victor goes on his journey of self-discovery, revisiting his prior loves
    •    Sept ’02 – V&N remarry again. I won’t dig through the archives to figure out when they next divorce, but I know by 2005, Nikki is dating Bobby. Oh yea and Victor kissing Sharon in ’03 prob didn’t help matters.

Yeah, Katherine/Dina’s friendship was a little bizarre at times. All 3 women aren’t too different from one another, but I guess if Dina had tried to steal Phillip from Katherine, she would have made it her mission to make Dina’s life as miserable as she did Jill’s. That always seems to be a double standard with Katherine where unless she’s wronged by somebody like she felt she was with Jill all those years, she can commiserate with woman who have actually done far worse and left their family behinds like Dina, because Katherine was also that bored and unhappy wealthy society wife for all those years too.

i feel like by Dec '91, Katherine saw how Dina could be shady... lying about her fake illness being the reason she stayed away for so many years. But by Jan '96, Katherine was happy to summon Dina back to Genoa City...

  8. I am up to 1556 - 1558 and they are on FIRE! In the past, I often FF past certain scenes or storylines that don’t keep my attention… but not here…

I am relishing to see Sheila in her full powers. She is secure in her new marriage, and she is starting to realize the joys of being rich! In her entire history on YR and BB, I have never seen her money-focused, but who wouldn’t be tempted by the “sweet life” once given a taste?  I loved her free and relaxed interactions here with Brooke. I’m not sure if she actually likes Brooke, but she definitely sees her as an ally. She confides in Brooke: “you’re my only friend… I’m very private” Oh, if Brooke only knew!  A hat-tip to the writers for throwing in little future plot-clues such as: “Harry Houdini once owned this house…rumor has it there are secret tunnels underneath!”

I am very impressed so far with the Kevin story. It doesn’t feel preachy or PSA-like at all. (Cricket/Christine Blair Romalotti Williams should take notes)  The struggle to secure Kevin a job at the Bikini Bar feels very true-to-life.  I really appreciate that they cast Black actors. I love how Macy, while flailing in almost all areas of her life, is a passionate advocate for Kevin. I lol’d out loud when Aunt Ruthanne commented about Macy: “oh that’s right… she has a husband and a boyfriend!” 😂 My only minor criticism is surely Kevin does have his challenges in life and I would like to see that... to provide a full picture… perhaps that is forthcoming.

The Sally/Stephanie scenes were delicious. Sally greets Stephanie with “free advice / a warning”… but by the end, Stephanie has turned the tables with a sly grin. In retrospect, I do view these scenes in a different light, knowing that Sally and Stephanie eventually come to a mutual understanding and respect… but that’s just fine.

At the end of 1557 when Ridge barges into Eric’s office… does Trish look like she was caught with her hand in the cookie jar??

I am all in for the Belief story and am making a point not to skip any scenes. I am mostly enjoying it. Stephanie forced to pretend to tolerate Brooke is fantastic to watch. And Karen subbing for Brooke for a Steve Massage is the most interesting thing Karen has done in months. However, I do not like the Connor actor and feel he is miscast. (I do wonder if I would have preferred Perry Stephens cast as Connor Davis!) And I definitely do not enjoy Connor and Ridge’s macho rivalry 🙄

Hah, once I was driving around my neighborhood, and only a couple of blocks from my house I saw a man jogging in a Y&R shirt! I swear I almost pulled over. 😅

Pretty sure Victor realized it after she'd been shot. There are scenes of him in the hospital reminiscing about Nikki with some early 80s scenes.

Ha! Could that have been me...?? 🤣

That's so funny that Victor remembers his love for Nikki, while she is in the hospital bed, b/c that's exactly what happened in winter '92 as she was recovering from the back surgery and her addiction... he kept having visions of her, which were kinda awkward as they seemed to lean a bit "Victoria's Secret"/almost pornographic...

Ok, thanks... I've only seen clips, such as the moment Victor tells Diane he's staying married to Nikki and how devastated Diane was. Sounds like i need to see the whole story to get the intricacies

I was out exercising this morning, and my thoughts kept circling back to Victor and Nikki, and I realized I still have nagging questions...  (only on a soap forum could people understand that I would be out exercising and thinking of vintage '90s Young and the Restless 😂🤣)

I recently watched summer '96. Nikki was vulnerable with Victor and made it clear she was open to a reconciliation. IMO he seemed totally disinterested. Like, he had moved on from that chapter in his life. Hope straight-up asks Victor if he will remarry Nikki, and he replies, "I don't see that happening"

So I guess my question is - when does Victor re-discover his love for Nikki? Is it before Nikki is shot, or is it because Nikki is shot and on death's door?

My unpopular opinion is that it wasn't that cruel. The deal was Diane divorces him so he can be married to Nikki until she dies. She didn't die, so they stayed married. I found it reasonable enough. It would have also been cruel to tell Nikki "cool that you survived but I don't actually love you or want to be married to you." That's my opinion as of when it originally aired - haven't rewatched the story in full, so maybe my opinion would change. I also didn't see Diane and Victor as a great love story. He married her to get to Jack, same as Jack did to Victor when he married Nikki. If anything I'd say marrying Diane was crueler than divorcing her.

Diane had the Victor/Nikki deathbed marriage invalidated due to the rushed divorce and remarriage (similar to Kay/Phillip). In the 6/30/98 Classic episode (Jill and Kay attic fight), there are several scenes with Michael going to the courthouse to look into the legality of the marriage. At one point Nikki and Victor had to pretend they weren't together while he was trying to settle with Diane. There was a clip in Victor's 40th anniversary of Nikki sneaking into his office dressed as a cleaning lady.

It all led up the sperm caper in 1999.

Ok, thanks... I've only seen clips, such as the moment Victor tells Diane he's staying married to Nikki and how devastated Diane was. Sounds like i need to see the whole story to get the intricacies

  12. I'm not too familiar with the YR plots of 1998/99 and something has always confused me...

Victor ditches Diane in the cruelest way after Nikki miraculously recovers, post-deathbed remarriage.

But by '99 Victor and Nikki are divorced again?? Anyone recall how that happened?

I have thought about this a lot 😅 and I would put up all the episodes, but with an interactive timeline with photos and stuff. So it would start with episode 1 but you could navigate through the menu and it would have, for example, a picture of Kay and Jill and say "to start with their feud, click here" and take you to that episode where Jill visits the mansion. Then you could opt to click through to Paul's debut, Victor's debut, Victor seeing Nikki at the strip club (Abbott and Nikki debuts would be awkward due to the recasts, so maybe use key storyline moments instead like Nikki killing her father), or whatever. Then for the 90s you could have Neil's debut, Sheila stealing the baby, and stuff like that.

That way all the episodes would be online for those who truly want to view the entire series, but there's also the option to skip forward if you want to only see the characters that are still on canvas today. Otherwise, a lot of fans would be turned off by not knowing most of the characters from 1973, while the diehards would be upset if they don't start with the first episode.

Sound good to me! Sign me up for the "BoldRestless" streaming plan 🤣

  14. That's the interesting thought experiment... if Sony had to pick a time point from when to start making vintage eps available, what would make the most sense from a marketing perspective? Highlighting characters familiar to current viewers...

Perhaps starting from September '81... Victor first sees Nikki dancing at the Bayou...

or April '82... John Abbott returns, as now played by Jerry Douglas, and the Abbott home set debuts. Victor and Nikki are connected at this point, but this is when the Victoria pregnancy storyline kicks their story into next gear.

  15. ^ the ill-fated move from Thursdays at 10pm to Thursdays at 9pm. It was soon reversed, but the damage to the ratings was done.

Thinking of summer '86 reminds me of an interesting Knots story from that time. It really shows how success in Hollywood can sometimes come down to luck and timing.

By the end of Season 7, spring '86, Jill's affair with Gary had wound down, and Jill didn't even appear in some of the final eps leading up to the season finale. Chances are, Jill would have faded out w/o even a goodbye scene. But... as the writers were prepping the season finale - TV Guide contacts the show, as they are interviewing Teri Austin, and want to go on set to watch a scene with her being filmed.  Based on that, the writers squeezed in a quick scene in the finale of Gary and Jill acknowledging their uncertain relationship status.

After that, the rest is history... Jill was brought back for 3 more seasons of increasingly front-burner story.  Imagine if it weren't for that TV Guide article, we never might have seen the Val "suicide" story...

Some people might argue there’s no tension on All Stars 7, since no one sashays away at the end of each episode. But I prefer this format for All Stars over the usual contrived Survivor format. It allows us to simply enjoy the company of cast members we’d admired from past years, as everyone sticks around for the whole season. Granted, it’s easier to do this when the talent level is this high (all winners).

I don't like manufactured Survivor drama either, but I do think there should be eliminations. I want the stakes to be high and the struggle to be real. I pooped out on this All-Stars after the first 2 eps

It was also OOC for Sheila to threaten Little Eric before her wedding too, because she was his nanny just a year prior and seemed to show nothing but affection for him.

That was a shocking moment! I feared for poor l'il Eric, to be in proximity to his psychotic soon-to-be stepmother.

With Sheila, maybe it's not OOC, because she is not sane. Maybe in summer '92 she convinced herself she had only pure love for the baby, but 6 months later, her true feelings emerged.

PS - in 1713, Sheila asked Molly why her friends can't help her, and Molly explains why her friends can't help, but I was disappointed when Molly named the friends, but they weren't Naomi and Doris 😂😂

    Thursday 29th January, 1981

Beverly Garland made her first appearance on the show in the role of Kay Thurston.

What…? Don’t remember ever hearing about this.

If JC disappeared from the show for weeks shortly after this, perhaps this was when JC went to rehab.

  19. I'm currently on 1540 but I jumped ahead to peek at the latest ep uploaded 1714, to see KB's departure for maternity leave. The story is Molly is sick and requests Sheila's help.

Did the character of Molly go completely out-of-character at some point?

Molly was consistent through Feb '93 when she last appeared on YR - very upset with Sheila for what she did to Lauren.

May '93 - she strangely shows up for Sheila's wedding (without an invite) with a huge smile on her face, ready to celebrate. Molly apparently has forgotten or forgiven all of Sheila's past actions.  Sheila inexplicably doesn't want Molly at the wedding, and cruelly sends her packing.

Now in 1714, she's begging for Sheila to come tend to her. Did I miss something, some episode in-between, that would explain Molly's change of behavior?

  20. Thanks FrenchFan!

On YR, seems like weak reasoning for Chris to leave town. Even though she was devastated by losing Karen, Chris still seems in love with and devoted to Snapper. That's quite an abandonment. Hopefully it played out better on-screen. And maybe Trish Stewart left without much notice.

Brad Elliott is cured of his blindness, right? But he seems very sidelined in the plot. Didn't he have an epic love with Leslie? Makes sense why Tom Hallick left.

I don't see enough justification for Lance to cheat on Lorie with Leslie. If Leslie was indeed near a nervous breakdown, that's extra gross that Lance did that. @YRfan23 has commented that they finds Lance to be weak-willed and now I see why 😆

  21. I remember Peter Reckell's character as a bust. It felt more like "let's grab this popular actor from Days and come up with a story for him". No chemistry with Nicolette. An irish accent that was eventually revealed as fake, I think??

Did anyone enjoy him on KL?
