Did we ever hear what the “different kind” of anniversary show will be?

Something I cool I just discovered, This channel has  two clips of Jill/Liz/Katherine and Nina/Victoria from 7/30/93, In English! :) I uploaded this full episode to the vault but only in French, so it's great to hear some of the scenes in English, considering Liz's 1993 return is pretty rare!

Thank you! I finally had a chance to watch. There's such a through-line with Liz's character after 20 years... "Look at me, girl!!" It could be 1973 or 1993 ❤️ Why oh why did MAB have to pull the "stunt" in 2010 of killing Liz off, just so David Hasselhoff could return for a few eps 😕 Liz should still be on the show, as the only original cast member, dispensing needed wisdom to all the younger foolish characters.

  2. After finishing up Catalina and ’93, I’ve just been mostly skimming through ’94… nothing interests me except for Sheila, and even Sheila’s story of trying to get pregnant to secure a piece of the Forrester fortune is pretty generic and underwhelming. Dear god, Jessica has consumed the entire show.

But coming across 1880, I had to stop and watch the whole thing! What a treat to have the entire original Logan family back. I’m sure KKL must have been thrilled. It makes the wedding feel like an event.

Sheila, of all people, hosting the wedding party was fun. She is watching Beth like a hawk. Loved big brother Stormy looking out for his sis.
The throwaway line that Felicia is in Africa doing volunteer work seems random…? Unless that was a character trait of hers that I’m forgetting?

Meanwhile Taylor has discovered her past but is helpless to escape her fate! I know the Princess story is overall a bust, but this here is a classic soap cliffhanger moment.

Knowing the Bridge wedding was approaching, I was worried that it would seem too rushed and ridiculous. But it makes sense that Ridge is trying to move past his grief to reunite with his other love and the mother of his daughter… and also the threat of James marrying Brooke accelerated things.

David Jacobs Dead: ‘Dallas,’ ‘Knots Landing’ Creator Was 84 – The Hollywood Reporter

Dallas is the show I grew up with, and had the most worldwide notice, but Knots Landing is the show that captured me when I was more discerning and has stayed with me. The intricate, believable, and heartfelt stories he put into motion, blessed with some of the most complex characters you would ever find on soaps. I'm glad to this day there is still discussion and discovery and rediscovery of the show, and that he let us into his world for those vital years.

So eloquent. You took the words out of my mouth - thanks. Currently on first viewing on Falcon Crest S2. It’s amazing in its own 80s glory, but more surface level and more easy to forget than the well-rounded emotional core established on Knots by DJ. Thanks for so much, David Jacobs, and Rest In Peace.

@yrfan1983 Lana Turner is back for the next three episodes and they are epic.

Just finished Lana’s 3 episode return - you were right! It was indeed epic and kicked the whole vibe of the show up a notch. Things are finally at a boiling point.  Richard using the opportunity of everyone gathered to reveal his parentage… and Chase punching him out after… is classic soap!

I adored the pageantry, production design, and costuming that went into the Tuscany Founders Festival. We talk about daytime soaps no longer having budget, but could even primetime shows in 2023 afford such a spectacle? I think I recognize the “town square” here as the Warner Bros lot in Burbank that later served as the town square for Gilmore Girls.

Lana’s hairdo is a work of art unto itself! Sometimes I pause the video to appreciate it. Is it a wig? Natural? I really can’t tell.

There must be more to the story of Jacqueline having “sold” baby Richard and I am here for it! Bummed to know that Jacqueline doesn’t make it to season 3 😕

Richard as a character is still a little fuzzy for me… in one scene, he tells Jacqueline “I was born damned!!” which is pretty character-defining. But in the next scene, he’s telling Chase that he is contrite. I’m sure he has some angle but it’s a bit too whipsaw.

Melissa is finally unshackled from the pregnancy story! I want to see her pro-active and making some money moves! She’s still oddly passive. I am lost as to what she wants from Lance…? She doesn’t have romantic feelings for him… so she just wants him to do a better job of playing the charade of being a husband and father…?

I had to google “Anne Jeffreys” to refresh myself on her Hollywood history… so far she isn’t making much of an impression.

Chao-Li and Lance’s scene in s2ep13 as EVERYTHING! So many layers, maybe even more than the writers intended. Is Angela even aware or cares that Chao-Li acts as a mentor to Lance? In the final scene, she directs Chao-Li to bring out the chardonnay to celebrate, but I doubt that Chao-Li would be included in the celebration.

Shannon Tweed was oddly and noticeably missing from S2ep13. She was there at the party at the end of ep 12, but not there at the beginning of ep 13 to catch Richard after Chase punched him… and then not there later at Richard’s office, with no mention. Maybe Shannon had a Playboy Centerfold of the Year shoot? :)

As if this day couldn’t get worst, sources are saying Sharon Farrell (Flo Webster) has passed :(

Oh no! She was 82. Wow, she was 51 when she debuted on YR and I thought Flo was in her early 40s

Snapper & Greg had already been in a little dust-up about Chris Brooks.  (She was in love with Snapper, but Greg had a crush on her.  She ended up working for Greg, with Stuart Brooks underwriting her salary.)

The point of Gwen Sherman seemed to be (at first) Snapper was an authority on prostitutes and recognized Gwen was a hooker.  If he told Greg the truth about her, it could potentially drive a deeper wedge between the two of them.

Snapper seemed to always find himself in these fixes... no wonder he snapped at everyone and hence his nickname...

When David Hasselhoff took over, seems like the cranky aspect of Snapper's personality faded away and Snapper morphed into a more generic leading man

  8. After 28 episodes of Falcon Crest, I have a hot take of Jane Wyman’s portrayal of Angela Channing. But it may go against majority opinion <hides under blanket>

I feel like Jane shows a limited range in her acting. Angela can be counted on to show a finite number of reactions: indignant. defiant. pleased.  mildly warm-hearted (to Emma and baby Joseph). That’s about all I can think of.

Angela Channing doesn’t feel like a fully-rounded character to me. Like a real person. I want to see Angela at her LOWEST… sobbing in the gutter… and then at her HIGHEST… elated beyond belief!  We never see either… we just see a tightly-controlled range of emotions in the middle.

To compare Angela to other 80s prime-time divas… I’ll pick two: Abby on Knots and Sue Ellen on Dallas… IMO we absolutely got more fully-rounded portrayals with these two than with Angela.

Jane Wyman is capable of much more… she won the Oscar in 1949 for playing a “deaf-mute” in the film Johnny Belinda, which I’ve never seen but am now motivated to.

Is it the writing that limits the portrayal of Angela? Or Jane’s acting choices? I don’t deny that the character of Angela Channing is an iconic symbol of the 80s and that Jane Wyman provided the stability for Falcon Crest to power through 9 seasons.  With this in mind, perhaps Jane’s portrayal was 100% on-point?

Would love to hear any opinions!

  9. S2E9 “The Vigil” - I knew this would be a wheel-spinning ep simply by the title. Clearly everyone would be standing around the baby, just waiting… snooze…

Richard is quite the sneak! He got credit for really nothing at all. The Russian doctor admitted that the medications had to run their course before Melissa could go in to hold the baby. So really the Russian doctor did nothing. I’m imagining the American doctor, cursing off in the corner.

Emma on the bus, boring her seatmate to sleep, was magic… reminded me of a similar scene from the movie Airplane.

Maggie on a Hollywood studio lot feels cliche, though perhaps in ‘82, it was more novel.

S2E10 “Confrontations” - I can’t believe Maggie even went to the beach with Darryl! Wearing a bathing suit! She is a happily married woman! And then she let Darryl kiss her, and she went to shower pre-intercourse before she came to her senses.  I don’t feel the writing supported this, but oh well…

Wow, such fanfare given to Vicki’s 10k, lol!! So many extras and so much budget. Not sure if the story warrants it, but I appreciate the lushness of the scene.

I’m a SF Bay Area native so I’m always trying to discern which scenes were filmed on location in the LA area and which in the SF/wine country area. The 10k scene to me looks to me to be filmed in St Helena (Napa wine country) due to the redwoods in the background - but I could be wrong. Definitely, some scenes are filmed in the St Helena area.

So thrilled to hear of Jacqueline’s imminent return!

I remember her.  She did a fine job.  I was a little kid, but to me it was more of a "salacious" storyline than a thoughtful one.  Greg's girlfriend is a hooker!!  Will Snapper tell him?!  Will Greg HATE Snapper when he learns the truth?!  What about Gwen -- will she continue as a hooker, or will The Love Of a Good Man change her forever?!  (Neither one, of course.  She joined a convent.)

Thank you Broderick! Sounds pretty much like I pictured :)

  11. Thank you BoldKara. Sorry to hear, DivineMotion, that Karen's story ended at a low point.

I'm still slowly watching '93... I'm on 1637... I was trying to figure out why Joanna Johnson's 2nd stint on the show never caught fire. I was hoping that Karen's story improved in '94 but doesn't sound like it.

  12. S2E8 “Choices” - whoa, Tony recast! I guess John Saxon wasn’t available. Robert Loggia is a fantastic actor but he didn’t give me Tony Cumson vibes. Oh well

The filming of Tony and Julia’s reunion by director Bill Duke, on location at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, was stunning! Too bad their lack of chemistry left me cold.

29:00 made me lol! Julia walks in with that freshly f****d look and Angela says “you’ve been with Tony, haven’t you”

Richard asking for his drink of choice, milk, was another LOL moment - maybe it soothes his heartburn?

I’m about halfway through with Skyler’s “suicide” and it’s definitely a high octane action-packed thrill ride, made even better with Mark Snow’s electrifying and atmospheric score.  Definitely a major improvement over Season 5 and even the latter half of Season 4.

There’s also especially lot of fun with the dry humor and countless memorable zingers from Angela, Richard. Lance, Melissa and Emma in each episode.

Highlights for me are Lance/Melissa redux, Tony’s return, Richard’s problems with Erin Jones along with Meredith’s revenge, and the whole Kit Marlowe/Skyler caper (although why does Kim Novak (and Robert Stack) have a 10 year old son lol?) which is fun along with Angela/Peter drama. Also Angela’s assistant for the season Mrs. Whittaker is a hoot.

Oooh you’ve got me excited for season 6. I watched the original airings as a high school freshman but I have literally no memory of it for some reason. I remember tons of hype in the media for Kim Novak.

If I recall the girlfriend‘s name was Lorie and I feel like the character was actually played by a couple different actresses.

I think you’re right! The recast makes the character less memorable plus neither actress was too talented.

I still adore the way that Susan Sullivan pronounced Lana's name - Jacqueline - with a perfect accent no matter her mood.

I noticed that… and then Cole sounds very unsophisticated when he pronounces it the “American” way

  14. S2E5 “The Expose” was a snoozer. A wheel-spinning ep. I guess even the best soap has one occasionally.

But E6 “Home Away From Home” was a blast! It really kept my attention and had lots of lines and details that made me LOL. (Why is Richard drinking milk when Cole confronts him, hee hee)

I wonder if the writer and director makes a difference… ep 5 was written by Garner Simmons and directed by Harry Harris. Ep 6 was written by Kathleen Hite and directed by Bill Duke.

Lana Turner is such a breath of fresh air. Love her sparring with Maggie.

Overall it was nice seeing Susan Sullivan back in the spotlight, but Maggie is way overbearing with both her children who are grown adults.

The show had a surprisingly big budget for lots of on-location San Francisco filming. The shots of Melissa driving her car down the windy Lombard St, and Lance and his girlfriend on the balcony overlooking the bay, are just gorgeous.

(The fact that I have no idea what the girlfriend’s name is, points out what a bland character and actress this is. Major mis-cast).

I’m surprised Angela still thinks Melissa is a “good girl”. Melissa’s fake behavior seems pretty transparent and Angela is usually on top of things.
