B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
I am up to 1556 - 1558 and they are on FIRE! In the past, I often FF past certain scenes or storylines that don’t keep my attention… but not here… I am relishing to see Sheila in her full powers. She is secure in her new marriage, and she is starting to realize the joys of being rich! In her entire history on YR and BB, I have never seen her money-focused, but who wouldn’t be tempted by the “sweet life” once given a taste? I loved her free and relaxed interactions here with Brooke. I’m not sure if she actually likes Brooke, but she definitely sees her as an ally. She confides in Brooke: “you’re my only friend… I’m very private” Oh, if Brooke only knew! A hat-tip to the writers for throwing in little future plot-clues such as: “Harry Houdini once owned this house…rumor has it there are secret tunnels underneath!” I am very impressed so far with the Kevin story. It doesn’t feel preachy or PSA-like at all. (Cricket/Christine Blair Romalotti Williams should take notes) The struggle to secure Kevin a job at the Bikini Bar feels very true-to-life. I really appreciate that they cast Black actors. I love how Macy, while flailing in almost all areas of her life, is a passionate advocate for Kevin. I lol’d out loud when Aunt Ruthanne commented about Macy: “oh that’s right… she has a husband and a boyfriend!” 😂 My only minor criticism is surely Kevin does have his challenges in life and I would like to see that... to provide a full picture… perhaps that is forthcoming. The Sally/Stephanie scenes were delicious. Sally greets Stephanie with “free advice / a warning”… but by the end, Stephanie has turned the tables with a sly grin. In retrospect, I do view these scenes in a different light, knowing that Sally and Stephanie eventually come to a mutual understanding and respect… but that’s just fine. At the end of 1557 when Ridge barges into Eric’s office… does Trish look like she was caught with her hand in the cookie jar?? I am all in for the Belief story and am making a point not to skip any scenes. I am mostly enjoying it. Stephanie forced to pretend to tolerate Brooke is fantastic to watch. And Karen subbing for Brooke for a Steve Massage is the most interesting thing Karen has done in months. However, I do not like the Connor actor and feel he is miscast. (I do wonder if I would have preferred Perry Stephens cast as Connor Davis!) And I definitely do not enjoy Connor and Ridge’s macho rivalry 🙄

Ha! Could that have been me...?? 🤣 That's so funny that Victor remembers his love for Nikki, while she is in the hospital bed, b/c that's exactly what happened in winter '92 as she was recovering from the back surgery and her addiction... he kept having visions of her, which were kinda awkward as they seemed to lean a bit "Victoria's Secret"/almost pornographic...

I was out exercising this morning, and my thoughts kept circling back to Victor and Nikki, and I realized I still have nagging questions... (only on a soap forum could people understand that I would be out exercising and thinking of vintage '90s Young and the Restless 😂🤣) I recently watched summer '96. Nikki was vulnerable with Victor and made it clear she was open to a reconciliation. IMO he seemed totally disinterested. Like, he had moved on from that chapter in his life. Hope straight-up asks Victor if he will remarry Nikki, and he replies, "I don't see that happening" So I guess my question is - when does Victor re-discover his love for Nikki? Is it before Nikki is shot, or is it because Nikki is shot and on death's door?

That's the interesting thought experiment... if Sony had to pick a time point from when to start making vintage eps available, what would make the most sense from a marketing perspective? Highlighting characters familiar to current viewers... Perhaps starting from September '81... Victor first sees Nikki dancing at the Bayou... or April '82... John Abbott returns, as now played by Jerry Douglas, and the Abbott home set debuts. Victor and Nikki are connected at this point, but this is when the Victoria pregnancy storyline kicks their story into next gear.

Knots Landing
^ the ill-fated move from Thursdays at 10pm to Thursdays at 9pm. It was soon reversed, but the damage to the ratings was done. Thinking of summer '86 reminds me of an interesting Knots story from that time. It really shows how success in Hollywood can sometimes come down to luck and timing. By the end of Season 7, spring '86, Jill's affair with Gary had wound down, and Jill didn't even appear in some of the final eps leading up to the season finale. Chances are, Jill would have faded out w/o even a goodbye scene. But... as the writers were prepping the season finale - TV Guide contacts the show, as they are interviewing Teri Austin, and want to go on set to watch a scene with her being filmed. Based on that, the writers squeezed in a quick scene in the finale of Gary and Jill acknowledging their uncertain relationship status. After that, the rest is history... Jill was brought back for 3 more seasons of increasingly front-burner story. Imagine if it weren't for that TV Guide article, we never might have seen the Val "suicide" story...

Cute mention of OLTL in this profile of Michal R. Jackson, Tony winner for creating "A Strange Loop"... Florencia Lozano is his neighbor in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, and she lends Michael her SODs https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/02/realestate/michael-r-jackson-washington-heights.html

That was a shocking moment! I feared for poor l'il Eric, to be in proximity to his psychotic soon-to-be stepmother. With Sheila, maybe it's not OOC, because she is not sane. Maybe in summer '92 she convinced herself she had only pure love for the baby, but 6 months later, her true feelings emerged. PS - in 1713, Sheila asked Molly why her friends can't help her, and Molly explains why her friends can't help, but I was disappointed when Molly named the friends, but they weren't Naomi and Doris 😂😂

I'm currently on 1540 but I jumped ahead to peek at the latest ep uploaded 1714, to see KB's departure for maternity leave. The story is Molly is sick and requests Sheila's help. Did the character of Molly go completely out-of-character at some point? Molly was consistent through Feb '93 when she last appeared on YR - very upset with Sheila for what she did to Lauren. May '93 - she strangely shows up for Sheila's wedding (without an invite) with a huge smile on her face, ready to celebrate. Molly apparently has forgotten or forgiven all of Sheila's past actions. Sheila inexplicably doesn't want Molly at the wedding, and cruelly sends her packing. Now in 1714, she's begging for Sheila to come tend to her. Did I miss something, some episode in-between, that would explain Molly's change of behavior?

Look into the past - 1975
Thanks FrenchFan! On YR, seems like weak reasoning for Chris to leave town. Even though she was devastated by losing Karen, Chris still seems in love with and devoted to Snapper. That's quite an abandonment. Hopefully it played out better on-screen. And maybe Trish Stewart left without much notice. Brad Elliott is cured of his blindness, right? But he seems very sidelined in the plot. Didn't he have an epic love with Leslie? Makes sense why Tom Hallick left. I don't see enough justification for Lance to cheat on Lorie with Leslie. If Leslie was indeed near a nervous breakdown, that's extra gross that Lance did that. @YRfan23 has commented that they finds Lance to be weak-willed and now I see why 😆

I remember Peter Reckell's character as a bust. It felt more like "let's grab this popular actor from Days and come up with a story for him". No chemistry with Nicolette. An irish accent that was eventually revealed as fake, I think?? Did anyone enjoy him on KL?

Thanks for posting! Oh, to ever see this someday… this must be around the end of “good Jill”, as she soon targets her mother’s beau Stuart for his money. ”Kay visited Jill at home to tell her that she couldn't possibly marry Derek because he was already married. She produced copies of the marriage license and certificate. Jill ripped them, saying that Mrs. Chancellor was insane and in need of professional help.”

Great find as always @YRfan23, thanks!! Kind of a wheel-spinning ep but mostly enjoyable. So weird to hear Jill call Ashley "Ash", like there was a time when they sort-of got along ok. Amy and Tyrone have no chemistry and leave me feeling cold. She has better chemistry with Nathan but the show never properly invested in them. Bizarre to realize Terry Lester is a couple eps away from leaving the show! Imagine an alternative universe where he never returned to the show to play out the storyline... Does anyone know - was it Nikki who cheated first with Jack, or Victor who cheated first with Ashley? By "cheated", I mean sex It's so hard to tell from reading the synopses... I think it might have been Nikki, who mistakenly thought Victor and Ashley had consummated... but I'm not sure
