The Young and the Restless: March 2023 Discussion Thread
Mamie's arrival was a nice treat today (though my Mamie was always be Marguerite Ray, RIP) Appreciated the flashback from 1999. The establishing shot of "downtown Genoa City" looked cheap as hell and made me mad! The sign on one of the buildings "Genoa City Savings and Trust" was Photoshop 101.

YR new intro!
The red font looks spooky... like a Dracula show with letters in dripping blood

The Young and the Restless: March 2023 Discussion Thread
this makes me realize... as the character of Nikki evolved into a snooty lady of the manor, it's strange that she didn't want to be called by the more formal "Nicole" vs Nikki

I thought we had that ep? But I looked it up and it's 7/13/93 and I guess we don't. I feel like I've seen that scene but maybe I didn't. I'm picturing that Nikki just calls and says "Hi Traci... it's Nikki"

Today was a bit better! I ff’d much less 😂 Wow, Mishael Morgan is a breath of fresh air and energized all her scenes. This is the first I’m seeing of Audra. Is she a schemer in the classic sense? Is she “innocently” urging for the JT podcast, to clear the deck so she can have Nate to herself? If so, this could have potential… Amelia Heinle: draining all life out of the room as Victoria Newman for almost 20 years.

The Young and the Restless: March 2023 Discussion Thread
Just random sporadic interactions over the decades... the two that come to mind: - Drunk Nikki attended Traci and Brad's '91 wedding - Nikki called Traci in New York, summer '93, to ask for Traci's help to get Steve to read Cole's novel

The Young and the Restless: March 2023 Discussion Thread
Set the dvr for YR for the first time in a long time, to see the anniversary week. Monday got off to a rough start... The only highlight for me was the rare pairing of Nikki and Traci planning the gala, talking about how "current and former members of the community are invited". (wink-wink) CONS: - While Susan Walters has a nice presence, how they can be recycling a "love triangle" (if you can call it that) from over 2 decades ago?? And don't get me started on Michelle Stafford's mugging... - Energy vampires Abby and Devon took up wayyyy too much of the episode. Not only that, almost a whole segment was devoted to a boring-ass recent flashback of Abby and Devon!! - The b-roll shot of the front of the Abbott estate looked so fake, like a parody. We never used to see the front of the estate. The only time I can remember is summer '96 when Mari Jo drove up and we saw ACTUAL footage of a LIVE estate. If you can't afford real location shooting - don't fake it - just leave it to our imagination.

Uh yea, not much of a classic moment but I guess it has sentiment for LLB and at least it's a new scene, haha! At first, I thought this was after Who Shot Victor and Nevis, but at the end they talk about getting the engagement ring back on her finger, so this must be shortly after the Nikki/Cricket confrontation on 4/23/96.

YR starting to release vintage clips in advance of the 50th... this one is already in the vault (July '83 Victor reveals he is alive to Nikki)... fingers crossed for some fresh clips! https://www.paramountplus.com/shows/video/60_qYOV2vxZUg_4yIyC54oQHhvjIg9bI/?fbclid=IwAR3mGEts_S9csldyPD3bw9WzqBjEv7Nzz5A1WEUYmpr9V5X4ubej5BDyhWA

Thanks... wow there is a LOT happening here, haha! Danny and Lauren are singing "Against all odds" and they don't sound as bad as they usually do. This is based on the Phil Collins song of the same name, specifically created for the Jeff Bridges movie of the same name. I haven't seen the movie but it does involve gambling/casinos, so maybe that's why their vid had that going on as well. Danny reflected in Lauren's sunglasses was 80s iconic! I appreciated the diversity of the dancers. This clip must be July '84 b/c Patty looks super-pissed, so this must be right after she found out about Danny and Traci's marriage. Ken the manager is living his best life and is not "reading the room" at all that some people in the room don't seem so happy.

YR: Tracey Bregman 40th Anniversary
@ltm1997 I watched The Talk live to see the TEB segment! It starts at 45 minutes past the hour. She looked amazing! I’ll put a summary in spoilers in case people plan to watch soon.

Knots Landing
Things don't really improve for the rest of Cathy's run IIRC... there's a plot point in '86 (post Joshua and right before Lisa Hartman quits) that is rather heinous on Cathy's part, and seems totally plot-driven and reflecting a lack of moral compass for Cathy.

KnotsLanding.net is a beloved treasure trove of info, but one annoying quirk is that all interviews are always incorrectly marked with a current date. This Constance interview happened years ago, and it says Jan 2023! I don't know any way to identify the true interview publication date... Thank you for your meticulous documentation of Joshua's character development! I'm glad to hear it was more thought-out and long-term than I remembered. On the flip side, what's your take on the character of Cathy Geary? Thinking back, and reading your recaps, she just seems like a non-person... a cipher of a character who morphs into whatever plot point is needed. Like you said, why does she crumble and return to Joshua simply b/c he acts goofy on a scooter?
