Tyler Perry's Days if Our Lives perhaps? 😂 Lol but I agree. Not to defend TP’s writing cause it certainly is its own level of cringe, but I never heard of Madea brainwashing someone with a toaster and hand mixer. Wish I could say the same of RC’s Days 😂😑

Thats the thing that irks me the most about the writing situation at Days. There is literally a huge pool of people who could take that head writers job right there on the writing team, and yet we’re stuck with this warn out hack. Chris Dunn, Jamey Giddens, Ryan Quan, David Kreizman, they are all there and have head wrote shows before. Not that they would be my first choice lol some would prob be my last but I hate Carlivati and want him gone so badly. I think Days should try and find some outside talent. Maybe a novelist or playwright. Someone who was a fan of the show at one point ideally. I am sure there are a few out there who would love steady work, and I feel like head writing jobs are one of the few left in daytime that still pay well, even Days lol

I suspect it was an error, perhaps on the magazines part. There is an interview I read from her time on Somerset, she definitely made it sound like Somerset was her first time on camera professionally. Would have been neat if she had been on TD though. It filmed at 30 Rock and her father worked for many years in that building as the head of NBC.

Question, and my apologies if this has already been addressed, but did Sigourney Weaver appear on TD? And if so when? I read an article that was in some soap magazine of the day saying she appeared on TD before Somerset, but don't remember seeing her or reading that before.

Definitely tracks, the show is only renewed to September 2025. They should take 7 months off lol But, sadly financially they can not. Filming almost 10 months episodes a week is insane. It definitely shows up in the quality of what we see on screen.

Yeah, she did a few commercials last year to. Still very busy working. It’s obviously the show’s decision not have her more, which honestly makes me so angry. She’s an original cast member, and would make a great sounding board for so many characters, as Marie’s literally been through it all. Annoying and off topic, sorry.

Absolutely. CBS network has also always had a better relationship with their affiliates than ABC and NBC. Mostly because CBS had more successful years than the other two. NBC is the worst. Because they had some really horrendous years in the 70s and 80s, they became beholden to their affiliates, in part because of them threatening to leave the network. They always let affiliates dictate their daytime schedule. Airing network shows in whatever time slot they wanted, or not at all in some cases. That played a part in the ultimate failure of all NBC soaps after 1980. Affiliates had to make money. Programming 6 hours of news a day and airing syndicated shows is money in the pockets for the affiliates. That’s one of the “nails” in the coffin of soaps that isn’t talked about very often, network affiliation pressure.

Definitely surprising news. Could be for episodes surrounding Doug’s death, also Days is very close to filming it’s 15,000th episode, maybe they’re planning something special for that.

It’s so funny P&Gs involvement in this…I noticed a few weeks ago they were posting about their soap past on their social media a bit…in fact at the beginning of their bio on instagram it says “We invented the soap opera”. Made me want to bitch them out…because that was actually Irna Philips who invented soaps! And, you all spent the better part of a decade erasing your soap past, even though it made your company what it is today and you still benefit from its advertising dollars. Also, if The Talk is cancelled and replaced by a soap…I say that’s great justice for GL fans!

I’ve honestly thought about this for years now. Especially since Days got CHEAP looking during the Tomlin producer years. Anytime you see any episode of a soap from the 50s-the early 80’s, the sets look so drab and honestly cardboard looking. I am sure that’s partly why soaps got such a bad rep in the early days, but as a fan, it doesn’t matter because everything is so damn compelling. Look at some of those 60s episodes of Days available online, they basically had the Horton house and a few other basic sets and that’s it. You don’t ever once while watching think I wish the sets were bigger or I wish the stories were more fantasy based, because stories based in reality are 100% more captivating. Just look at the August-September 1966 episodes when Bill Bell first started at Days. Marie grieving for her miscarried baby with her marriage falling apart or Julie in angst about losing David to Susan. Give me that over the stuff being produced now any day.

This honestly is such a slap in the face to long time fans. I know the Horton’s are pretty non-existent in Salem these days, but this set is such a piece of history, not just Days history, but television history. It’s been there since day 1, almost 60 years, pretty much unchanged. That’s is totally unmatched. The fact they felt they could just burn it as some plot point in this stupid story, shows how little they care. Had the writing been better, maybe this could have made more sense. But the whole thing seems like nothing but a stunt. Disgusting that the show has no sense of respect of its history anymore. I suspect they’ll build a new set, but who cares. This set represented so much of this show to fans. It’s so angering. I always felt one of the reasons Days had such loyal fans, prob the loyalist of any soap ever, was because it respected its history. Now, everything is just a joke. No respect at all to anything, it truly feels like end of Days to me. After all the news this week, and this. I just can’t fathom how the show will go on. Truly so sad.

Arguable Days has always had a HUGE online presence. Only rivalled by GH and Y&R. I remember up until the early 2010s, Days being one of the most searched tv shows every year on Google. That’s in daytime and primetime! Pretty incredible honestly. I would say, all three of those shows could sustain many years online into the future. This whole thing is such a mess. I’ve been a diehard Days fan for over 30 years. I have been less than thrilled with the show the last 2 years, just content wise, but this is seriously making me consider never watching again. I fully stand with Arianne on this. The hell she and the other females involved with days had to endure the last decade. Just horrendous. I think if Corday wants to save the show at this point he needs to step down from producing. He will never sell the show. First of all, who would want it. While I think the show could last many more years under the proper leadership, I don’t think any other production company would see it as viable. Secondly, as little as he cares these days (obviously, it’s his lack of interest that has brought this whole mess on) it’s still his parents show to him. Every interview he does about the shows legacy, it shows he will always feel that way. As much as he’s mismanaged it, it’s part of his family, he’s not giving that away, in the shows life or death. Corday should settle with AZ. Give her what she wants, no matter what. Sooner rather than later. He should offer AZ her job back. Give her whatever money she wants as a salary, fire someone if you have to. There are so many useless contract cast members right now. AZ is worth 10 of some of those people. I am sure alot of fans would agree. Again, he should step down from producing the show. Obviously as owner, he will always be there and have a say, but hire someone who can take over that position and treat everyone involved with Days with respect and dignity. And honestly produce better quality. And finally, have a permanent HR person involved with the show, that is capable of dealing with these issues. Cause obviously Corday is useless.

Also, Another show to add to the roaster is an early 70s show titled “Paul Bernard, Psychiatrist”. While not a true soap opera in its format, it aired weekdays from 1971-1972 on CBC. Each episode revolved around a doctor-patient therapy session. Some of the patients were recurring, giving viewers a chance to follow their story. All the stories were based on actual case studies. I believe about 130 episodes were produced. From what I read the show had a very large following, and more episodes were planned, but a labour dispute at the time led to its cancellation.

There are few other Riverdale episodes posted by that same user as the posted above episode. If you check their channel, you’ll see them. Riverdale was a very interesting concept for Canadian television. The Degrassi team built a whole backlot “community” which included a mall set with many Canadian brand stores. They tried to make it as realistic as possible. Their definite goal was to make Riverdale the “Coronation Street” of Canada. The set also had a corner shop, homes and such. They even brought over one of Corrie’s big name directors to help with the first few episodes. The goal was to produce 2 half hour episodes a week, but CBC was very hesitant. The first season was 22 one hour episodes, which were broken up and re-broadcast in half hour increments. I remember reading an article at the time of its launch. Linda Schuyler stated the show cost about $500,000 per episode to produce, but claimed they could cut that cost in half the longer they went on because of the permanent sets and a smaller cast. The show started out with strong ratings, but settled to about 700,000 viewers a week for the rest of its run. Not horrible for Canadian television, but not what CBC had hoped after making such a financial investment. The show was canceled in 2000 after producing 47 one hour episodes (94 half hour). It was a real shame. I think had the show had better writers and more of a commitment from the network it could have been a real hit. The production and cast were really good. I remember the show ended with a cliffhanger. One of its main characters Stephanie, the wife of the shows villain was floating face down in a pool after taking to many pills when all her deep dark secrets came out (which included a sex tape, as seen in the episode above and the revelation that she ran down her illegitimate daughter). Real soapy stuff. Another interesting tidbit was that after the show was canceled cable channel “Showcase” offered to co-produce more episodes, if CBC agreed to continue funding the show as well. Showcase was really interested in entering the soap opera market, but CBC declined, and that is what eventually lead to the creation of the above mentioned “Paradise Falls”.

With an end to the writers strike allegedly in sight. What chances do we all think some of the striking writers will be shown the door when they return? Obviously B&B won’t. With Y&R’s head writer also being their EP, I am sure that will be a hard sell as well. GH and Days may have some kind of chance. Days has had a head writer change almost immediately or within six months of the end of the last 3 writers strikes. Could this be the end of Carlivati?
