  1. This all looks really good. I assume the person with Julie is either Spencer Olsen (Steven’s son) or a relative of Dougie LeClair. Either is good to me! These returns don’t line up with the next few months airdates. Alison Sweeney was filming in August, that’s like April/May airdates. Wasn’t the other returns announced after? Probably May? Very confused seeing this. I feel like they definitely are previewing spring with some of this. Obviously that Hope scene at the end with Julie is from then….cause PR didn’t return for Doug’s Memorial episodes. And, if they are previewing spring, that must mean winter is gonna be boring as hell.
  2. Totally shocked and devastated. RIP Drake
  3. Stephanie's murder was always something I wanted to see. I was disappointed when P&G shut down their classic soap channel before we got to the final year of SFT. Much like The Doctors, I was eager to see how the show fared at the end. No way MC's Stephanie would of just stood there, she would of battled back and probably strangled Rivera with that locket lol Killing Stephanie and having Wendy disappear was defiantly a choice. I get the show was grasping at straws, and serial killers were kinda the in thing on NBCD with Days and SB both having their own first, but I feel this could of been better. It is interesting to see what Gary Tomlin did though, he wrote the beginnings of the Salem Strangler on Days and Pat Falken Smith of course continued it and made it legendary, but I always wondered what his plan was there.
  4. The copyright crackdowns were so common in the early and mid 2010s with Days and Y&R content. There were many channels on YouTube that posted content then, now there is such a small amount that posts anything classic or current. There is a social media channel called "Liquid Soap" that was regularly posting clips from Days and Y&R. I think it's run by someone at Sony, but has gone pretty much dormant. I remember when it started wondering if this was Sony's way of measuring how much of an interest there is in past soap content. We of course got the Pluto soap channel not long after, but those episodes are anything but classic, showing content from the last 7 or so years. Honestly, I don't think we'll see any classic episodes of Days (or Y&R for that matter) until the show is cancelled. I think Sony is the real blocker here. When Ken Corday sued Sony a few years ago and was asking for their binding contract to be terminated, he stated that Sony had pretty much no interest in Days anymore. It had gotten to the point where he was personally trying to sell the show overseas (which was legally wrong of him and Sony made that clear). That lawsuit was so interesting to me, and I still wish Corday had been allowed to move on without Sony's involvement. Say whatever you want about KC (and there is a lot that can be said about his mismanagement) he loves the show, and I think he would be more receptive to fan requests for classic content. Sony is just in it for the pay check, without putting any effort into the show. I assume Corday can't feel the same way, mostly because his profit must be so minimal compared to the old days lol
  5. I’ve never been sure if the people who work on these shows read message boards like this, but in case they do, and since the new writers are currently in the infancy of their run at Days (They’ll be 9 months ahead by the time we get to see their material!), what would we like to see from them? Realistically, we can’t ask for shorter film to air dates, and for them to do things outside their budget, that keeps the show running, but I would love to see certain stories. More Hortons and less DiMera’s. The previous regime has ruined the DiMera’s for me. Stefano is dead. Rest them all and the predictable and boring stories that go along with them. Bring on the next generation of Hortons. There are literally so many options. Claire, Will, Nathan, Jeremy, Eli, Ciara (without Ben please) could all return with their families. Scotty, Sandy and Steven could all have children and grandchildren who make their way to Salem. Make the Hortons the center of the show, not the DiMera’s. Make death a permanent thing in Salem. Back from the dead is such a lazy plot point. It’s more interesting for characters to be alive when they leave a show, then to let everyone false grieve and bring them back months later with little to no regard to what they were doing before their “death”. Again, Stefano is dead, let back from the dead’s be as well. With that being said, before we make death permanent, please bring back Laura and Abigail. Both of these characters had horrible and unnecessary endings. They are to important to the history of the show to go out like they did. Fix it. Please fix other mistakes like Bo and Hope’s and Belle and Shawn’s current states. Have Marlena be in stories with her family, and not in stories with pointless characters like Everett and Leo. Write the show with a more serious and realistic tone. Soap operas are campy and unserious at times yes, but by writing the cheap JER rip offs that the previous regime did makes it painfully obvious, especially when you don’t have the budget to produce it. Look to the 60s and 70s for ideas. Days told melodramatic and riveting stories with a smaller budget than they had in the 80s and 90s and had a much larger audience because of it.
  6. THANK YOU SOAP JESUS! I honestly never thought this day would ever come. I am very pleased they promoted two writers (female at that!!!) who have history with the show. 30 plus years for Ford. I think that will be an asset for sure. I do wonder if they were responsible for the strike stuff. Which could be worrying, but on the other hand we know at least the first half of that was the influence of the fired guy, and I feel like whoever was writing the rest was being told to drag stuff out as long as they could, hence why nothing happened for months. Honestly, I don't care. I literally would take my cat head writing over what we have had to sit through the last 4 years. Just an empty parody of the show IMO. I know this was mentioned, but I really wonder if Sony asked Corday to release Carlivati for Y&R, with Jamey Giddens co-head writing? I really thought Carlivati would be writing the end of Days at some point....something definitely happened here. And, just for my own sanity, I am so glad he will not break the head writing record held by Bill Bell. That honestly would been a kick in the teeth for fans and Bell's memory.
  7. Way to go Days! I always had faith the show could do well on streaming, especially during the slow time for streamers releasing new content. Now, not to sound like a broken record but imagine if they had better writing! This possibly could be a regular thing.
  8. Omg this 100%! His whole family has been a one dud after another. Gabi definitely had more memorable moments and has been a more appealing character, but it was unnecessary to introduce that whole family. Rafe really should have left after he broke up with Sami. That was the end of his usefulness, I liked him with Jordan briefly, but that ended quickly. I remember when GG left a few years ago and it sounded like it was going to be permanent, I was thrilled. Obviously that didn’t last lol Just kill him off already!
  9. I agree 100%. I can’t really speak to the AMC and OLTL revivals, but as much as some Days fans saw the move to peacock as a negative one, it really was a new lease on life. It proved that NBCU had faith in the Days brand. Had the producers seen this as a fresh start and really put in the effort to give a quality product, I think we could see MANY more years of Days, unfortunately I feel they are running on autopilot and blowing it. That has to do with Corday I think. He obviously is older and has no interest in being there. It’s a shame he didn’t follow in his mother’s footsteps and mentor one of his children to take his place at the show. But that may have been intentional, I feel he always kind of resented being in that role, maybe he didn’t want his children to have the same resentments.
  10. I personally feel the same way. I never stopped during all 3 of Higley’s tenures, except when she was paired with Griffith, but I think he had majority influence there, cause the show got super dark and was moving way to fast for my liking. Carlivati of course has written the show for 7 years, which is insane to write because he is now approaching Bill Bell and JER level seniority. The fact he will probably head write this show longer than Bell, arguable the best HW Days has ever had, doesn't sit well with me. Higley wrote for 6 combined years, so we had breaks from her horribleness. No breaks from Ron, minus the strike, which obviously we all know what was happening there. I think my major problem with Ron is minus his “good ideas” he doesn’t understand how to write the show. Days, even under JER was more than just “camp”. There was an understanding of values and history. The Hortons and Brady’s were good and the moral compasses of the show. The Dimera’s were bad, and caused conflict . Everyone under Ron for lack of a better term is “grey”. Except grey characters are usually well written and have a believable motivation. You just feel at this point any character could say brainwash, rape or murder someone, and it all would be excused and forgotten about 6 months later. Unless you’re a POC that is 🙄 I remember on more the one occasion, Carlivati mentioning how fans said he would always be a good fit for the show years before he started writing. I really think that inflated his ego and caused him to only look at things broadly. His basic understanding of the show is devil possession and face swapping. The show is more than that. Even during its worst times, it respected its history. Killing core characters such as Laura or Abby, to literally give stories to characters, who if they were to die tomorrow and not one fan would ever wish for their return ie Gwen and Clyde is wrong and damaging IMO. That would have probably had a writer fired in the past. Of course with his use of back from the dead, you can say it doesn’t matter, but that issue is another topic on its own. I just feel he is warn out and at this point unable to write entertaining long term stories. Sadly, we seem stuck with him. I can’t see any situation where he is fired. The checks and balances seem to be gone with Corday away golfing with the former EP predator and Days streaming on peacock now.
  11. I have been thinking about this lately. Who do you all think has been worse for the show, and is worse at doing the job? I think a large portion of fans, especially those watching in the last 20 years would probably say Higley is the worst. She seemed to have no idea how to structure a story. How to create compelling characters. Lots of ideas, but no substance. She did seem to improve slightly when she had a co-head writer, but they were never enough to elevate her stories. Carlivati has so many of the same traits. But to me seems to be worse. I am not sure if it’s the way the show is produced now, or if it’s just the way he writes (I never regularly watched GH or OLTL so I can’t speak to his history), but he’s so repetitive and predictable. Again, good ideas at times, but no idea on how to carry through with them. Both were breakdown writers before they took their jobs. They both had histories with their original shows. Both worked under strong head writers, that just doesn’t seem to help translate to good storytellers. What do you all think?
  12. Ohhhhhhh that’s where Ron gets his lines for Leo.
  13. Tyler Perry's Days if Our Lives perhaps? 😂 Lol but I agree. Not to defend TP’s writing cause it certainly is its own level of cringe, but I never heard of Madea brainwashing someone with a toaster and hand mixer. Wish I could say the same of RC’s Days 😂😑
  14. Thats the thing that irks me the most about the writing situation at Days. There is literally a huge pool of people who could take that head writers job right there on the writing team, and yet we’re stuck with this warn out hack. Chris Dunn, Jamey Giddens, Ryan Quan, David Kreizman, they are all there and have head wrote shows before. Not that they would be my first choice lol some would prob be my last but I hate Carlivati and want him gone so badly. I think Days should try and find some outside talent. Maybe a novelist or playwright. Someone who was a fan of the show at one point ideally. I am sure there are a few out there who would love steady work, and I feel like head writing jobs are one of the few left in daytime that still pay well, even Days lol
  15. Thanks for sharing all this Jason. I am very excited to see the coming weeks ratings for Days as this was the time (after 8 years) the infamous Mike Horton paternity story had its climax and the aftermath of that! Interested to see if audiences tuned in.
  16. I suspect it was an error, perhaps on the magazines part. There is an interview I read from her time on Somerset, she definitely made it sound like Somerset was her first time on camera professionally. Would have been neat if she had been on TD though. It filmed at 30 Rock and her father worked for many years in that building as the head of NBC.
  17. Question, and my apologies if this has already been addressed, but did Sigourney Weaver appear on TD? And if so when? I read an article that was in some soap magazine of the day saying she appeared on TD before Somerset, but don't remember seeing her or reading that before.
  18. Definitely tracks, the show is only renewed to September 2025. They should take 7 months off lol But, sadly financially they can not. Filming almost 10 months episodes a week is insane. It definitely shows up in the quality of what we see on screen.
  19. Yeah, she did a few commercials last year to. Still very busy working. It’s obviously the show’s decision not have her more, which honestly makes me so angry. She’s an original cast member, and would make a great sounding board for so many characters, as Marie’s literally been through it all. Annoying and off topic, sorry.
  20. Absolutely. CBS network has also always had a better relationship with their affiliates than ABC and NBC. Mostly because CBS had more successful years than the other two. NBC is the worst. Because they had some really horrendous years in the 70s and 80s, they became beholden to their affiliates, in part because of them threatening to leave the network. They always let affiliates dictate their daytime schedule. Airing network shows in whatever time slot they wanted, or not at all in some cases. That played a part in the ultimate failure of all NBC soaps after 1980. Affiliates had to make money. Programming 6 hours of news a day and airing syndicated shows is money in the pockets for the affiliates. That’s one of the “nails” in the coffin of soaps that isn’t talked about very often, network affiliation pressure.
  21. Definitely surprising news. Could be for episodes surrounding Doug’s death, also Days is very close to filming it’s 15,000th episode, maybe they’re planning something special for that.
  22. Right! Very true. Shows how much interest I had in either of these shows since they stated lol
  23. It’s so funny P&Gs involvement in this…I noticed a few weeks ago they were posting about their soap past on their social media a bit…in fact at the beginning of their bio on instagram it says “We invented the soap opera”. Made me want to bitch them out…because that was actually Irna Philips who invented soaps! And, you all spent the better part of a decade erasing your soap past, even though it made your company what it is today and you still benefit from its advertising dollars. Also, if The Talk is cancelled and replaced by a soap…I say that’s great justice for GL fans!
  24. I’ve honestly thought about this for years now. Especially since Days got CHEAP looking during the Tomlin producer years. Anytime you see any episode of a soap from the 50s-the early 80’s, the sets look so drab and honestly cardboard looking. I am sure that’s partly why soaps got such a bad rep in the early days, but as a fan, it doesn’t matter because everything is so damn compelling. Look at some of those 60s episodes of Days available online, they basically had the Horton house and a few other basic sets and that’s it. You don’t ever once while watching think I wish the sets were bigger or I wish the stories were more fantasy based, because stories based in reality are 100% more captivating. Just look at the August-September 1966 episodes when Bill Bell first started at Days. Marie grieving for her miscarried baby with her marriage falling apart or Julie in angst about losing David to Susan. Give me that over the stuff being produced now any day.
  25. The songs been in public domain for a few years now. It’s free to use lol https://www.npr.org/2021/01/01/951171599/party-like-its-1925-on-public-domain-day-gatsby-and-dalloway-are-in
