RIP: In Memoriam Thread
Was he the last surviving member of that cast? It's occurred to me that we lost at least 3 actors this year who appeared in the original Roots: John Amos, James Earl Jones and Lou Gossett.

RH/GH: Ron Hale has passed away
Wow, in just the last few years, a number of those first-year Ryan's Hope actors have left us: Ron Hale, John Gabriel, Michael Levin, Michael Hawkins. I actually thought Ron Hale was older. Even though he was under 30 when RH started, he seemed older than that to me.

I always felt Good Times lost its heart when John Amos left. I tend to find the seasons afterwards pretty unwatchable. Apparently, he passed on August 21 and it was just announced.

Clayton Norcross (B&B) is currently appearing on the Italian version of Big Brother, Grande Fratello. I'm not really familiar with him other than by sight but his Italian is pretty good. https://www.grandefratello.mediaset.it/video/clayton-norcross-e-l-amore_F313495501009C18.shtml

Dancing with the Stars: Discussion Thread
I'm looking forward to seeing Eric Roberts. That's a pretty nice coup! He's one of the busiest, most prolific actors around. I think he's at or near the top of most credits on IMDB for a living actor, over 600 productions. I've even seen him in a few Italian films/miniseries. I'm older, not into sports, bachelors or Disney, lol, so I know like 3 of the contestants...pretty much every year.

ALL: Mask/surgery/disguise/imposter
Do you mean characters who made up another persona or characters who impersonated another character on the show? The three below would be the latter: AMC - Adam sometimes impersonated his twin, Stuart OLTL - Patrick London had plastic surgery to impersonate Bo Buchanan (late 1980s) EON - Slightly different as he introduced the character but the first Sky Whitney was later revealed to be his surgically altered "friend," Jefferson Brown. The real Sky came along later. (early 1980s)

Sister Act: Who Didn't Get Cast?
I didn't know Donna Summer had a sister. Like you said, the other stuff fits...I imagine being "known" to someone in the business like KN may be different sometimes than being known to the general population. She doesn't specifically mention if it was for the lead role which, no doubt, TPTB would have wanted recognizability and star power. Apparently, the lead was originally meant for Bette Midler, who turned it down.

Sister Act: Who Didn't Get Cast?
This one got me curious. There's an interview with Kathy Najimy where she gives some clues (but not a name) about someone who auditioned for the movie but didn't get cast and I just wondered if anyone might know who she's talking about: Did they pair you with anyone interesting during these auditions? Anybody we would know now? Well, yes, but I hesitate to say them because I wouldn’t like it if someone said, “Yeah, Kathy Najimy auditioned but didn’t get that.” I get it. As movie lovers, we love the different calculations of what a movie might look like had someone else been cast. Here’s what I can tell you: a good singer, known but not as well known as her wildly, wildly, wildly famous sister who’s not with us anymore, but one of the greatest singers of all time. Can you make any kind of a guess? Okay, let me think. And her sister was huge with the gay community, a huge legend. Did they sing together? They might have in their lives. The one who’s not with us anymore is older.

The Doctors Discussion Thread
I hadn't watched the show in over a year but the last couple of weeks I picked up where I left off (March 1972) and binge watched to the end of that year. Admittedly, I did ff stuff, particularly the redundant flashbacks and the constant retelling of conversations from person A to person B to person C, etc. Anyway, I had a couple of story questions since I'm not sure if I missed certain things, or they were pre-empted or just not shown. The day that David Elliot started as Billy Allison, they referenced that Billy knew he wasn't Dan's son and that he was Toni's half brother. Prior to my pause from the show, shortly after Stephanie's birth, I don't remember Billy being sat down and told this. Did it happen onscreen? I know Billy was off-camera a lot that year but they kept mentioning him. Did Mama Simpson and Andrew Winters get married off camera? I saw the weeks building up to it and then it's mentioned that they are on their honeymoon, so that got me confoozed. 🤪 I did recognize some of the guest actors who appeared this year early in their careers (James Sloyan, John Pleshette) and like to look up the names of those I don't recognize. Was kind of amused to find out that the guy playing the head of the Board, Judge Bowman, was Lydia Bruce's husband. He seemed quite older than her but wasn't really. Or that the Vito actor was once married to Jennifer Darling (Callahan in the 70s bionic tv shows). BTW, is the little girl who played the abused Mary Nell the sister of the actress playing Greta? I noticed they have the same last name and there's a resemblance. I know this might be sacrilege and I don't slight Meg Mundy at all but Mona tends also to be ff material for me. Also, I don't know if it's the specific writing during this period or if it's just the way things were done back then but I found so much of the dialogue (and monologues) so repetitive that I would be like, okay another 10 minutes of Cathy going off the rails or another chat between Matt and Maggie rehashing their conversations with Nick and Althea...I tended to ff a lot of that when I got the initial gist of it. Some of the camera angles were pretty rough, expecially catching the studio mics on camera so often. And the scene where Vito was supposed to have slapped Toni was so badly done I was wondering what the heck happened. I noticed James Lipton in the writing credits and have heard that his soap work was not particularly loved by fans.

colinmochrie X (Twitter) Richard Simmons on WL was adventurous, giving and filled with fun. Just what you want in a improvisor. He was the main reason this sketch, in my humble opinion, is one of the funniest things that ever appeared on TV. RIP sir, and thank you.

R.I.P. Richard and Ruth. 😔 I still have several of his Sweatin' to the Oldies tapes. I had his Deal A Meal cards back in the 80s. I remember seeing him first on GH doing classes at the disco, before he built an empire. I think he must have the distinction in soaps of being the only one who appeared regularly as himself within the framework of a fictional soap setting and storylines.

ALL: Recasts who seemed like a different character.
Whenever I see a question like this, the one that immediately springs to my mind is Jerry verDorn as Clint Buchanan on OLTL. This was a role that was so intertwined with Clint Ritchie from the beginning (they even asked CR if they could change the character's original name to his). The whole Texas cowboy thing, along with Bo and Asa, all of the stories that had so much to do with CB's Southern/Western background...there were a lot of blurred lines and similarities between CB and CR. You could see CR was totally in his element in that whole Western persona. He was actually my longtime favorite on that show. As much I loved JvD from GL and I did like him as Clint, his Clint did feel more like Ross with a slight twang. It's impossible to picture him in some of CB's earlier stories because he just didn't fit the type. Also, by the time he joined, they were taking Clint in a different direction anyway, ultimately making him more Asa-like at times.
