I too was stunned at the mention of MLK and RFK. They have mentioned Vietnam several times before, mostly in reference to Ed Stark and Anna Ford, who were both seriously injured over there when working as a medic and war correspondent, respectively. Never had they mentioned the assassinations until now, but it worked in the context of going after what you want while the world at large was in complete turmoil. Althea/Nick - pure magic. I'm looking forward to the wedding scenes already!! We've seen Peter Burnell's first episode as Mike and I like him already. Plus, his being there will breathe new life into the Matt/Maggie relationship. I'm tired of the drama involving Karen and am ready for them to move on. Again, I'm so glad RTV took a chance and introduced this gem of a show to a whole new generation. It doesn't really feel like a "soap" per se - it's like many of the half-hour primetime shows of the 1960s but straight up drama with hints of comedy and a splash of romance.

I remember David Gibbs on AW. My sister subscribed to Soap Opera Magazine at that time, and they interviewed both Tim and David at one point. They were indeed brothers.

I cannot picture either Augusta nor Vivian played by anyone other than Louise Sorel. She can do camp with the best of them, but those characters - especially Augusta - had such vulnerability underneath it all. I know LS also played a short-term role on OLTL after she left SB the first time in 1986, but I haven't seen her work there and can't comment on it.

I'd rather see the nurses (besides Carolee) and orderlies get more lines, but YMMV.

That candy striper just freaks me out. TD adds lots of comedic touches, but IMHO the candy striper is one that just doesn't work.

Maybe I'm nuts, but does anyone else see a strong facial resemblance between David O'Brien and...Jimmy Fallon? The eyes, the jaw. I know it is pure coincidence, but I do see a lot of resemblance. Ironically, both taped their respective shows at 30 Rock!!!

As disgusting as that was, I give Louise Sorel a lot of credit for standing up to the Dobsons about her misgivings - saying that Augusta would never have been attracted to the man who had assaulted her sister. Just too bad that she lost her job as a result of speaking out.

I can see what you're saying, but Maggie isn't alone in causing problems in her marriage. Matt has been so insensitive to her feelings and suspicions about Karen for months that he can't be called blameless. But then, that also goes back to how good the writing was. Matt may be the Chief of Staff and respected by his colleagues, but he's no saint. He's a man who has his flaws as well as his strengths, and James Pritchett was excellent at tapping into both sides of Dr. Powers' persona.

Yeah, the show was on 8 1/2 years, so it really seemed like overkill with all the sexual crimes committed.

You're so right. How could I have forgotten the Blake sisters? Which reminds me - many sister duos were raped (not necessarily by the same attacker): Gina and Summer, Eden and Kelly, Mary and Christie. That makes it even more disturbing.

She did a great job jumping into heavy story and making the character of Maggie her own. They are two actresses who looked nothing alike (and with high heels on, LB was nearly as tall as James Pritchett), but like Ann Williams before them, each put her own definitive stamp on the role.

If I have any major problem with SB, it was that there were too many rapes. Kelly, Christie, Mary, Hayley, Eden, Julia (am I forgetting anyone?)...it just was overkill. Not that the actors involved didn't do fantastic work (especially Marcy Walker, whose rape storyline won her an Emmy), but still.

They could watch but they still wouldn't get it. Thank goodness these episodes still exist - not only do they whip anything on daytime now, but it's better than most primetime shows, too.

I laughed out loud when the bellboy called Maggie "the little lady". Yes, I know he meant the phrase in the context of "wife", but when she was standing right next to him - TOWERING over him...There's something about Lydia Bruce that reminds me of Barbara Billingsley. Both were tall, slim blondes with similar mannerisms.
