I was laughing a few weeks ago when Sharon was saying they had to have Mariah's expert marketing skills for Cameron Kirsten enterprises. Marketing what?!

In the early 2000s Y&R had some legitimately good storytelling (original Mac and Billy, Kevin revealed as Michael's brother) but I thought they were jumping the shark with spermgate, Brittany getting eletrocuted on the pole, and Jill and Kay being mother and daughter, but all that stuff is very watchable now. They weren't good ideas long term, but they were well executed. Cassie's death and John's death were also major blunders but well executed and acted. Even as late as 2008 I was enjoying Heather and Adam hooking up and Kay thinking she was Marge and falling for Murphy. And the last storyline I honestly liked was Nina reuniting with Ronan in 2010. That era had some horrific stuff though (Cane's ghost, chipmunk, reliquary...). To be fair, I still watch Y&R, B&B, and GH so I guess I have to say they are still "watchable" now. Y&R has some good ideas but they don't play the beats. B&B has some good action scenes but bad storytelling. GH is just... a lot. A lot of stuff happens, but I don't usually care about it because there's too many characters and even after 18 years of viewing I still don't get all the obscure GH universe references, lol.

That seems like a terrible contract, IMO. Doesn't it mean that if she gets offered other work, they can prevent her from taking it if they need her to film that one episode per week, because she's technically on contract? I hope she's recurring or has "outs." I also wonder why they can't give a contract or situation like that to someone like Billy Miller. I would take 53 appearances from him in a year over being subjected to Jason Thompson daily.

What shows? Are you looking for daily, weekly, or monthly? Usenet has a lot of early 90s recaps, and there were tumblr accounts featuring Soap Opera Digest scans 70s-early 90s and weekly summaries from the late 70s/early 80s.

I am pretty sure Bell originally was contemplating making Traci the daughter of Brent Davis (when he was running around with just a generic baby picture) and I'm so glad they didn't go that way. She already didn't look like the rest of the family and wasn't involved in the family business, and it would have been so easy to have her fade away if that happened. It made more sense to have that happen to beautiful, strong, Ashley. Traci was always treated as the ugly duckling with Lauren in her ear telling her Danny would never love her and getting used by her professor. Brad was the hot guy who actually liked her. I always thought Brad had only used her for money, but now that so much 80s footage has come out, I can see that was not how it played out on screen. There's some subtext nodding to that but he also appears to have genuine feelings. And then they played so many scenes, including on her own Honeymoon, where women flirt with Brad and then realize he's with Traci and act disgusted and shocked (unpopular opinion: I don't think DD is that hot... the remarks were as OTT as the ones about Cricket!). Given that, I thought it was terrible for Ashley to get together with her sister's big love, when Ashley had the pick of so many men. And of course the Olivia thing was so gross and a step even beyond that.

One thing I wonder about is when the Nielsen report says X number of minutes aired, how does that work with time zones. @JAS0N47 has told us that sometimes the shows reserved a few minutes for political ads, and intentionally produced a shorter show, so that makes sense. But for a news interruption like this, I wonder if sometimes it's possible the shows did air in full in some time zones? According to this article the shooting happened at 5:19 PM in St. Peter's Square https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/2021-05/may-13th-1981-remembering-that-fateful-day.html which is 11:19 AM US Eastern time and 8:19 AM Pacific time. So that happened early enough that I guess it broke into Y&R and then the rest of the shows on CBS got preempted cause they stayed on the story all day. Same for ABC breaking into AMC and preempting the rest. So then the 20 minutes that aired of Y&R were East coast and the West Coast, I presume, had no show? But then how come NBC aired partial episodes of all their shows? Did they dip in and out of coverage all day? That information probably isn't available in Jason's report, so I'm just musing really. I guess it comes from the desire that since Sony isn't going to ever open up their vaults, that somewhere, the show aired in full and some fan recorded it. Hm! The report says the preemption was for the Presidential Inauguration. The Presidential Inaugration is considered a "planned preemption" like Christmas or sports events. It is well known ahead of time because it takes place every four years on January 20. It goes on all day and there are no soaps at all, so it's not like an unplanned special report that only breaks into part of the show. It's very safe to assume that a soap is always preempted on Inauguration Day.

Yes! And some people were saying "she needs to get used to being on a soap" but that is really dark and goes further than I would expect on a modern soap, so I totally get her point now.

It's too bad they didn't at least give a breakdown of men vs women. You'd have to think it was virtually every woman.

I feel like Y&R is the only other one that would make anyone say "finally!" but with Griffith being fi-core, it seems so unlikely...
