Novlan is completely wooden, IMO. The only time I ever saw some spark in him is the scenes where he was held captive and bedridden. He looked truly scared, and I attributed that to a reaction to Kimberlin Brown's strong presence. Other than that, his expression is always the same.

Alec comforted Julia after she quarreled with Joe about her pregnancy. Diane disbelieved Lindsey, who warned that Jack is playing one of them for a sucker. Ashley refused to give Marc inside info on why Dina had deserted John. Diane was crushed that Jack broke off their engagement and that Andy comforted her, but said their marriage is over. A- "fan," Shawn, secretly photographed Lauren, who was sunbathing in the nude. Shawn later asked to start a fan club for Lauren. Jazz was livid when Mr. Anthony threatened Tyrone's life and then ordered Jazz to bust into the county prosecutor's office. Julie considered Joe's offer to pretend that he fathered her baby. Boobsie admitted to Nikki that she really cares for Douglas. Boobsie refused Victor's big bucks offer to stay away from Douglas. Danny denied Jill's suspicion that Traci is pregnant. Traci saw Tim, who is engaged to another woman, Andrea. Marc and Ashley rekindled the old flame between them with a red hot smooch.

Preach it @divinemotion! I don't like the character of Ridge. I think he is a jerk, always has been. Both actors who played him are terrible. Ronn Moss at least was funny/fun to watch and embodied the character perfectly. Thorsten Kaye doesn't even look or act like what the character of Ridge is supposed to be. Regardless of my feelings, there is no doubt that Ridge has been the catalyst of the show for nearly the entire run. We followed Ridge's story with Caroline from day 1. Ridge's point of view, Ridge's feelings, Ridge's actions were central. Ridge was in the major love triangle that started when Taylor joined and continues to this day! The show made a controversial decision to recast because they felt they couldn't do without this character. I disagree, but he's very very important to Bradley Bell. The show completely revolves around Ridge, Ridge's job, Ridge's children, Ridge's opinions, Ridge's love life. The other Forrester kids and all the Logan kids except Brooke have fallen off the radar completely. Ridge and Brooke are the center of the show, like that or not.

The Vanderbilt news archive lists a 22 minute NBC newsbreak for Walter Mondale's announcement of Geraldine Ferraro as his VP candidate. That must be the reason for the interruptions on 7/12/84.

Well, due to my Italian heritage I enjoy seeing it in Italian and I know my mom would get a kick out of it as well, but I guess it's not so important if the episodes are there in English, but certainly there is lots missing from 1992-1993 and 1999-2005, so I'll bet you have some "new" material in there. Those collections you had posted (one was about Nikki and Cole) were in a very good quality. Sometimes I redub the English voices over the German videos for better video quality.

Frank warned Amy that Jazz will never be rid of his mob contacts. Jazz worried that Tyrone, who is Genoa City's new county prosecutor, wants to live with Jazz. Jill lost her baby; then denied John's accusation that she purposely fell off the ladder in hopes that she'd abort their son. Jack warned Ashley that Marc can destroy the Abbott family if he reveals that Dina's still legally John's wife. Dina and Marc mended old fences. Tim nixed John's job offer because he feared it might harm his relationship with Traci.

Great to confirm more US Open Preemptions. I am assuming the event that broke into soaps and preempted Search for Tomorrow was this event from September 1: A South Korean 747 was shot down in the Sea of Japan by a Soviet fighter near a Soviet island off Siberia, the United States announced. There were no known survivors aboard the plane carrying 269 people on a flight from New York to Seoul. American, Soviet and Japanese ships and planes fruitlessly searched the frigid seas north of Japan where the airliner apparently went down. There was an unconfirmed report that the long-missing plane had experienced radio difficulties and thus may have been unable to hear or respond to any Soviet warnings, but there was no clear explanation for the attack. Investigations continued into the next week with the Soviet Union admitting it on September 6, which accounts for the other interruptions (I have to remember that sometimes I need to look at NY Times news from the following day, since it was all in print back then!).

That's not bad for B&B! Thanks. Maybe I'm naive but I'm honestly shocked that the soaps do so much better than an almighty sacred sports event! I always thought those events were so popular that they had to preempt our silly soaps so they could get the ratings for sports. Maybe March Madness and Thanksgiving football do better. Or maybe it is just that the network signs a contract for broadcast rights to sports so they preempt the soaps. And as far as I know, most sports have less commercials than scripted series so it seems like they lose money between paying for the rights, less commercials, and lower ratings? It's fascinating to see it all come together.

Great! That tracks with what I thought. If I'm reading correctly, the ratings for US Open are in the 3s and 4s, lower than even Capitol?! Then what is the point of preempting the soaps...

Thanks @JAS0N47 that's a relief! If September 10 hasn't been a preemption it would have messed up all the assumed episode numbers. Totally understandable to make a mistake every once in a while.

Interesting that CBS soaps were only preempted Monday September 6 for US Open. It's long been assumed they were also preempted Friday that week.

I like the headlines. It looks cleaner. I did not like the "latest posts" sidebar because even though the spoiler section had been removed, it often had posts from discussion of that day's show which I had not watched yet.
