Jennifer in looks and attitude puts me in the mind of Bonnie Franklin from "One Day At A Time". A liberated outspoken woman very much of her time (1970's). Jay looked very 1970's hip with his pornstache. I noticed most of the soaps back then rarely let their leading men wear facial hair. I remember being shocked seeing Bob with a beard in some early 80's episodes.

Thanks for the recap. When did Nancy find out the truth about Kim's baby ? How did she treat Kim after ? 1997 Ghost Jen made a remark how Lisa & Kim were like oil & water in the old days and didn't want Kim anywhere near Bob. When did Lisa & Kim become friends ? They were besties by 1979. How did Jen & Lisa get along ? I assume Lisa hated her guts.

Re: 1973 GL. I really like Rodell as Leslie. I wonder why the character was always styled with short hair (wig) ? What little I have seen of Adams she comes across as frosty and aloof. She had more life to her acting on Secret Storm. Joe does looks sprayed old. Sara was beautiful. The house set looks like the same set used for Jackie's house in the 1977 episode, it had be repainted/redressed by then. Kit is creepier than what I imagined. I wish more of this storyline was available.

I remember my Mom mentioning Kim having long hair and how beautiful she was when she first appeared on ATWT. She also talked about Kim/Bob/Jennifer. As a kid watching the show in the 80's when Kim & Bob got back together during the snow storm, I knew all about the history from Mom filling me. Also anytime Cindy Pickett shows up on anything she always recalls watching her as Jackie Marler on GL in the 1970's.

WOW ! Thanks for finding that. I never thought I would see a color episode of SS from the 1970's surface.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I remember reading they wanted Michael Zaslow to take over the role of Alan when Bernau departed. Zaslow told them it would be disrespectful to his friend Bernau and that the audience would only see him as Roger. It would also be silly since Roger & Alan had be involved in previous storylines in the 1970's. I wish Bernau had lived. Original recipe Alan & Roger redux would have awesome.- Y&R: Old Articles

- Family (1976-1980)
You are correct. In the pilot she say's she's pregnant, but they drop it after that. Later in the series ( I think season 4) Nancy and Jeff hook up again and she becomes pregnant and miscarries.- The Lee Phillip Show (1977). The Cast Of Star Wars.

Yes !!!....I always said the same thing. Those two would have been awesome as rivals. Looking at that photo of Pickett and the 1977 episode. She and Lezlie Dalton kind of traded hairstyles by 1979. Jackie had a short blonde Pixie do and Elizabeth had the long brunette layered do. Pickett with pixie look kind had a Reva/ Kim Zimmer thing going on. What if Zimmer had replaced Pickett after she departed in the role of Jackie ?- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

It would be interesting to see how she would have handled later material. Elayne said after the pilot she would film random scenes shot out of sequence and she never quite figured out if Jeff & Nancy were still together or are they getting divorced or what ? It did look as if Jeff & Nancy reconciled, but when season 2 starts with Meredith they are in divorce court slapping each other in front of the judge....LOL- Family (1976-1980)
Yes She did. I ran across another recent podcast interview with Elayne. Some Highlights: * She was treated pretty shabby in her first film Payday (1973). During the bedroom scene with Rip Torn the blanket was pinned up over her as not to expose anything when Rip gets up from the bed. When he did the covers came down exposing half of her breasts. She then tried to pull it up and the director told her not to worry about it that he was shooting her face. When she saw the film she realized he lied to her. She then says now people have taken stills of that scene and they are all over the net. She said when someone enters her name into Google the phrase " Elayne Heilveil Nude" is the top search. * Another Payday story was that Rip asked her if she was going to cry during a scene and she said no because she felt it was not what the character would do. As soon as she said that Rip hollered for the makeup woman and she came over and blew menthol smoke with a device in her face to get her eyes watering and Rip shot the scene. She said she felt violated and went back to her hotel room pissed. She laughs she took all the drinking glasses in the room and smashed them outside on a brick wall to vent. * She said she liked to keep her private life private, but revealed during the 1970's into the early 80's she was in a long term relationship/lived together with with actor Stuart Margolin who co-starred on the Rockford Files & Love American Style. She said when she started guest starring on Rockford, she and Stuart worried they would be found out and the studio or producers may claim nepotism. She said nobody caught on as far as she knew. She even married Stuarts character Angel in one episode. * When she was doing Family she had trouble with a director on how to play a scene with Sada. She discussed the problem with her boyfriend actor Stuart Margolin who told her just listen to the him and say " Hmmm Hmm" and nod and then when the camera starts rolling do the scene the way you feel you need to play it. She said she did the scene and started to crying because she felt it was the appropriate way Nancy would react. The director yelled CUT ! and ripped her apart in front everyone. The director told her to stop doing that. He was a friend of Sadas and he felt it was taking away from her big moment. She laughed and said it may work for Stuart , but she couldn't get away with it. * When she did the TV film " Cry For Help" her character was to wear a trench coat. She went to the wardrobe department at Universal and picked one out. She pulled it out of the rack and on the label it was marked Peter Falk (Columbo). She wore it in the film and was fangirling she was wearing Columbo's jacket". * She said since she played a lot of serious roles most people were surprised at what a funny person she is and was always cracking jokes with the crew. * She also joked that she had a normal childhood and was afraid she wasn't flawed enough to be an actress. She also joked that she later discovered she did have some quirks as her career progressed. * She said that on film sets they directors/producers always used the phrase " Get The Girl" when shooting a scene. She said that would be the title of her book is she ever wrote one.- Family (1976-1980)
A new interview with Gary Frank, Elayne Heilveil, Carroll Newman (Frank's wife) from Family. Youtube would not let me embed the interview. Heilveil explains why she did not continue on the series. She said she would have liked to. She seems like a sweetheart. She say's it was her idea to have Nancy freak out in the car in the pilot episode with the windows rolled up. She also laughs that the Nancy character was explained to her " No one is going to like your character"....LOL She said she started out doing comedy, but when they discovered she could cry then she started getting those heavy dramatic roles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgOKR-YxFFg- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
R: Bill Bauer. it's funny but Bert seemed to work better as a widow/single mother fretting over her family. After Bert passed I wish the show had introduced Bert's sister or maybe a cousin to pick up the Bauer matriarch role. I would have loved to have seen Sada Thompson cast in the part.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
That magazine scan reminds me of the circa 1996 awful 'Newcomers taking over the show. NuPaul (John Howard) is show with Austin Peck. I don't think Howard did any other acting other than ATWT. I assuming he was probably some low rent male model they hired to attract younger viewers. Re: The Dobsons. P&G screwed up switching them to ATWT. They should have left them alone to work their magic at GL. Marland was a perfect fit for ATWT that we would find out circa 1985.- A New Day in Eden
I was surprised to see Jim McMullan pop up on this series. I recently watched the 2 Father Knows Best reunion films from 1977 on Tubi where he plays the pilot that wants to marry widowed Betty Anderson (Elinor Donahue). - "Secret Storm" memories.
