It's also a real stretch to think Ava and Harris would have anything in common. Besides being the same age and in the same location they have no similar interests lol. She's a criminal, evil, a killer?, possibly insane and now on the run from the law. I don't know why army hero, mostly sane, voluntarily committed Harris would want to hit that. I'd check myself out of Bayview and never look back. Days does have a long history of pairing characters together solely because they are both single and the same age though without regard to any reason they would make a good couple. Xander and Chloe is a prime example lol.

Ava is one of those soap characters that was great in their first run, but the show just kept bringing them back for no discernible reason except people liked it once. It helps TB won an emmy for the role too. Ava has definitely outlived her shelf life and has bounced around canvas with little purpose. She's also suffered from whiplash writing. The show redeems her than makes her evil again and tries pairing her with people ranging from Steve and John to Johnnie and Rafe. Is she evil? Is she sane? Are the drugs she was taking making her like this? No idea and I am long past caring. The show just has never made it clear. Harris is only around because he's played by Steve Burton. I did enjoy him on Beyond Salem and I do think there are interesting beats to the character. But Harris was never integrated with the cast at all. Everyone he had ties to is long gone and his only link to Salem is his shrink. I have no investment in him because eventually GH will hire him again and Harris will be a distant memory like Steve's Y&R character.

I have never really considered TB's Carly and Jason to be a romantic pairing or anything other than good friends. TB's Carly actually had better chemistry with Sonny. So it seems like Days is trying to capture what could have been with TB/SBu when there is no real evidence that's a good idea lol. They do work well together so it's not the worst idea, but both characters are just such duds. I think Harris has/had potential at least in the beginning. Ava is so far past her expiration date as a character it's pointless. And, no, I don't think it's ever worked to reunite popular actors on a different soap. We can look to the lovely MBE and SN and their painful romance as Katherine/Stefan on GH as exhibit A.

Sarah is one of the most unlikable heroines in daytime. I know people like LG in general, but her snarky, smug delivery of all her lines is absolutely obnoxious. Her keeping the babies parentage from Xander and marrying Rex for no real reason is idiotic. Sarah is an awful character.

Honestly the John/DVD dad story played out in an episode. DVD had a few episodes, but John found out DVD was in the same army unit as Jigsaw in the final scene of one episode and then the next episode we saw the entire reveal happened. The fastest retcon of parentage ever.

I 100% agree that the show dropped the ball badly with Stefano having Marlena vs. Orpheus. And then to bring Orpheus back and the canon is he just lost Marlena along the way lol. The Tale of Two Romans is poorly executed and the fact that Marlena's missed years are just dropped until decades later is weird. RoJohn and Marlena were all about discovering what happened to Marlena in those years and then Wayne's Roman appears and it's not important at all. I get the Roman matter was much bigger, but Marlena never really seemed curious about her lost years or got a true perspective of her losing time as well. The POV was always about Wayne/Drake's characters. There were so many things Marlena could have done those years from having RoJohn's baby to being a Princess Gina like Stefano operative, or even an amnesiac Marlena falling for Orpheus, but, alas it was always about the Romans. I tend to think Marlena/Roman's returns at the same time was just too big of a story to tell at the time. The two returns would have been better off spread out. I am not complaining about how the 90's ended up for Marlena, but there are a lot of ways you could have gone with that story. When JER brought Stefano back he really was presented as a scary figure. Marlena was hysterical while pregnant with Belle afraid Stefano would take her away from her family again. With the re-introduction of the Dimeras JER really did make Stefano out to be a very scary character. It obviously devolved into camp, but I did think his introduction played out well and Stefano was retconned into having Roman/Marlena back in 1991 so that wasn't his initial idea.

I think it's fair to say Stefano was always at the very least enamored with Marlena. Even after Roman's (Wayne) first death Stefano attempted to kidnap Marlena and the baby twins to ostensibly make a family with Marlena and the kids. JER is the one that ramped the obsession up and it started with Marlena trying to seduce Stefano to save John in Maison Blanche. He then became progressively obsessed with her. Then she took care of him after he was injured when MarDevil tossed him off the roof. Marlena softened to Stefano without his memory and was quite friendly with him letting him live with her at the Penthouse. This gave Stefano some hope that Marlena and he had a real chance which IMO the show almost seemed like it was heading for before the Aremid shenanigans. Anyhow, there isn't a single moment or exact reason, but I actually think you can connect the dots enough through history to make it plausible, if not terribly realistic. Especially with the rewrites of Stefano having Marlena for her lost years as opposed to Orpheus. JER added enough retcons to move the story and obsession along.

Tyler doesn't seem physically capable of taking a soap role at this point otherwise I suspect he would have been given another shot. And reading between the lines of Tyler's own words he was given several chances from GH and Days we just didn't hear about it. Tyler's struggles have gone on behind the scenes for years and he still hasn't conquered his demons. I hope one day TC is healthy enough to return to GH, but I think Tyler is truly unemployable at this point. I don't think he's actually blacklisted from soap work or anything.

Haley Pullos and Molly isn't a hill I am willing to die on or anything. She did some awful things. It just seems like other troubled soap stars with addiction struggles on this board get a lot more grace from some posters. I think you can feel bad for the actual victims and also hope that Haley gets it together so she doesn't hurt herself or anyone else again. Hoping she never works again and lives under a bridge so she can't afford a tall boy of beer seems counterproductive.

Didn't Haley go to rehab and/or is currently in rehab? Not that I care one way or the other if she comes back, but maybe she's trying to get help? Idk, she should obviously be held accountable, but I am not sure I agree she should never work again.

It's weird because I did like a lot of the episode in the fact that the sentiments spoken were sweet but delivered by the wrong people. A lot of the scenes were a bit clunky especially with Chelsea. I think it could have been a lot worse. I just think Jamey's excuses are very lame and I don't find them very believable. Days has so many vets on its cast and just didn't use them for another long-time vet's funeral but made sure Xander and Alex were front and center. Theresea had less business being there than half of the main cast.

I don't really get what Days has to do with Jamey Giddens failed show. Unless I am missing something Days wouldn't have to build new sets for Victor's funeral. They would have to add a few chairs. I get there might be a limit to how many people can be on a set, but I don't see why they couldn't have filmed Nicole, John, Marlena etc with a few people and rotate the cast in and out for scenes.

John's new backstory was resolved in an episode?!!? After all these years and all these false leads that's it? It's all very silly and so quickly done, but whatever. I have long since stopped caring about John's origins lol. At least the DH's seem to be in on the joke of John's past at this point. The Sarah birth scene was so disconnected from what was going on a few feet away inside. I don't understand why Chloe or Xander didn't alert her mother and everyone else. That's just sloppy writing.

I mean, Max did date his niece Stephanie as well who he did know his entire life, so it's a bit of a pattern. It is really a shame that Nicole, John and Marlena weren't at the memorial. I can understand Nicole might think it was in bad taste to go, but John/Victor had such an interesting relationship in the 90's and were quite close after Isabella died. Why are bars giving Shawn the entire bottle of booze? The small bar has given Shawn the entire bottle of whatever he drinks multiple times and that's literally illegal.

The Theresa wanting Brady stuff seems to have come out of nowhere. I don't necessarily have a problem with Brady/Theresa it just seemed like she was happy living her life with her son not hung up on Brady for 7 or so years. This is something that could have had a progression instead of Theresa immediately laying all her cards out on the table to Brady. And I just looked up the rumored recast and.....😬 Well, looks like we have another John retcon. It doesn't bother me either but I don't really want to go down that road again. Hopefully this backstory will make more sense. The DVD, Julie, Doug stuff was nice. I don't know what to say about the Ava stuff except I was perfectly content with Susan being DEAD dead. Harris is pretty useless. I keep waiting for GH to snap him back up honestly.

That's totally understandable. I wasn't watching very often during that story and when I re-read it on the internet I questioned if they changed John's story again and he was part Asian😂

Paul's mother Tori is Asian. It has nothing to do with John or his backstory. John isn't biracial. I mean, Paul was a retcon as well since we never saw John's affair with Tori in 1994 ish or whenever, but changing John's parentage wouldn't effect Paul at all. Unless, say, John was actually the real Roman. That would make a lot of things in town quite incestuous though so I don't see that happening. Doug did have a hell of a crazy backstory. I just think John's appeals to all writers because John never regained his memories so he can be (and was) anything.

Tony/Andre is really bad. I am sure other soaps do have awful retcons like this, but not nearly as many. Days seems to have head writers that want to retcon specific stories always and make them their own, so every regime takes on John's backstory or Hope/Gina or Tony/Andre and it will never make sense.

I feel like every writer wants a crack at John's backstory. I don't like where it stands now with the SAW guy being his father. I just don't want to go down that road again. They seriously should have just made him the real Roman years ago (sorry Shawn/Belle) or made him Stefano's son. Those things made sense. Not the Yo Ling and Petrov stole John and brainwashed him to be an assassin.

Is Dick Van Dyke John's dad? Are we going down that road again? Good show today overall though. I don't understand why Theresa's appearance got wacky background music when last we heard she was a stable, good mother to Tate and Brady spoke positively of her.

Speaking as someone who was in what you perceive as their target audience a few years ago, Leo and this story is horrible to me. I do think there might be some merit to the notion that Leo's sassy one liners and crazy fashion perhaps appeals to an audience of women who don't know many gay men and want a stereotypical gay bestie, but even that seems like a reach because Leo is an awful person and no amount of Golden Girls jokes will make me relate to him or want to root for him. It's borderline insulting to say that soap is made for 18-34 year old women and that's why it's superficial and juvenile......that's not the case. Ron couldn't be more far off on that. As far as the fact there are more LGBT characters on Days than other soaps may be true, but I don't think that's the point especially when those other characters are barely utilized. This story would not be treated as wacky hijinks if it was about three straight characters. The fact that this story features two gay men is being used as a crutch to make it seem groundbreaking when it's downright awful. I obviously can only speak for myself, but I don't think there is a single sector of the audience that this would appeal to.

Did you? I have never been able to tolerate her. It's a complete overreaction on my part, but she's easily one of my least favorite characters of all time. I hate everything about Gladys. There is not a single redeeming quality in the character. Her name even bothers me lol. I have a hard time watching episodes that include her. I know she's not even near the top of the list of bad characters of all time, but I irrationally hate her.

The fact the show is trying to redeem Gladys actually hurts my soul. I think everyone knows how I feel about Gladys and I knew in my heart one day very soon she'd be gone. Now this? I have lost my faith in GH entirely. There are a lot of GH characters that have continued to exist way after their shelf life has expired. Gladys has had a run about 2 years too long. Does ANYONE like her?
