Y&R/Days: RIP Quinn Redeker
With Redeker’s experience in standup comedy and screenwriting, it really showed in his sense of comedic timing and ability to bring “oomph” to what might have otherwise been written as exposition. He was enjoyable to watch in his scenes on Y&R, where he had chemistry with pretty much everyone!

Oh wow, Boen was once a sitcom staple. May he R.I.P.- The Tennis Thread
She announced before Naomi I believe. I came across it when I was searching for something else and even there I wasn’t sure until I checked her social media announcement. Oh well. I giggled when someone complained that she was too young and another said, “well, isn’t she like, 26?” That’s not too young. I don’t get the squawking over other people’s personal choices. These folks will be fine.- The Tennis Thread
Nobody’s talking about Ashleigh Barty’s pregnancy announcement?👀🤭- The Tennis Thread
It’s the reason why the tournament had to build so many amenities in order to entice most of the players to fly 16-20 hours to get there. Now, in the era of multiple revenue streams where the most popular players can make more just in endorsements alone, AO may have to come up with a new way to attract the popular players.- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Blink too hard and you will probably miss this quick appearance by Parker Posey (ATWT, Tess Shelby) in the trailer for this upcoming movie.- The Politics Thread

Uh, the Australian Open is now charging for practice matches? It’s over folks. Tennis has truly crossed that boundary. I am being told that this is for charity? For TA, or is this a back door way to test the fans’ tolerance for paying for these types of practice sessions?- The Politics Thread
Sad but unsurprising since Brazil does have a long history of politically motivated violence.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread

Oh I dunno but I thought this ultra short cut looked super cute on West, back in the day. Maybe it was when she was pregnant and her face was a bit fuller but I thought it was very flattering on her. H/T @Broldenwhose site provided the image. Something tells me that O.G. Lily Walsh was never meant to truly be a businesswoman. I know they had her try to model herself as a Lisa type of businesswoman, rather than Lucinda, but Lisa actually enjoyed business and liked that she discovered that she was good at it (I remember her having this conversation with Barbara or another character, saying as much) while Lily repeatedly told Dusty, Holden, Sierra, Craig, Iva and anybody who would listen how much she hated business, lol. The Heather Rattray years were a departure from that but during the time that Martha Byrne portrayed Lily, it seemed as if Lily had to practically hold her nose in order to do any business dealings.- RIP: In Memoriam Thread

The only successful sitcom that aired on CBS in the early to mid 80s that I can think of, was Kate & Allie. When I think of sitcoms and the 1980s, I am more likely to think of peak Diff’rent Strokes, peak Facts Of Life, and the start of NBC’s ‘Must See TV” Thursday night lineup, and Who’s The Boss?, Webster, Mr. Belvedere and the early beginnings of ABC’s TGIF lineup. Even Fox was starting to compete by the end of the decade and with syndicated television shows like Small Wonder (which got heavily made fun of by other student writers in my grad school sitcom class but even they had to admit to having watched the series as little kids-we all had to) and What’s Happening Now that aired on my local Fox broadcast network, Fox was starting to embed in the weekend time slots as early as 1985. CBS was fortunate to get any traction from their sitcoms that were 70s holdovers exiting the television landscape in the 80s. Other than Kate and Allie, the only other memorable sitcom in that era was Charlie & Co., which CBS ultimately badly flopped by changing its time slot just as it was starting to cultivate an audience and throwing the nascent sitcom into the lions den of direct competition with 80s powerhouse The Cosby Show, which just seems cruel, in retrospect. I agree with @Paul Ravenabout CBS’ sitcom programming cupboard almost being completely bare by the mid 80s and it was pretty much their own poor choices that led them there.- The Politics Thread
That’s a lengthy summary @janea4old! I hope it wasn’t too much trouble to do and I appreciate the effort you put into all your posts, but I did get a chance to watch some rounds during the week so I am fairly familiar with the process of the clerk (Cheryl Johnson especially needs an all expenses paid vacation at this point!) polling the votes of each Representative-elect. I was just just wondering what time on Friday this melee took place but after posting, I quickly found out. Fridays are now very busy for me and I got home fairly late and was too exhausted to watch all the shenanigans.- The Politics Thread

Just caught Hakeem Jeffries’ speech and the man has bars and undeniable swagger! He makes me miss New York, lol. His flow and content were brilliant. This is the kind of person who would make civics and public service more engaging to people.- The Politics Thread
In short, no. About a century ago, the vote went through 133 rounds and took two months. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/longest-elect-speaker-house/story?id=96183135- The Politics Thread
I knew that they reopened the case, but does Brazil even have an extradition policy with the U.S.? I know that the possibility of trying Santos in absentia has also been raised but if he’s extradited, that would make a much stronger case for him being removed from office as he would be unable to do the people’s business. California has a recall system for candidates but I don’t recall NY state having one. A recall election is more expensive and messy. When there is a case being made for a criminal fraud charge, it would save the people time and expense to just make the case that he is unable to do his job while he is in another country defending himself in a criminal case.- The Politics Thread
Brazil needs to use this time constructively to put their criminal case and hopefully convince the U.S. to extradite George Santos to face those larceny charges.- The Politics Thread
