As The World Turns Discussion Thread
While looking for video for another thread, I happened to come across this episode from 1984, which I don't remember seeing in the past. It features rare footage of an exterior shot of the Walsh stables, which honestly looks like a prop piece from Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. Seeing the early relationship between Dusty and Lily, at this point, Dusty is angsty, restless and temperamental-- which honestly, seems like a template for a future Holden. Also, I don't think I remember seeing the first actor to play Heather Dalton's father (I remember the 2nd). This man looks like the actor who played the Dad in The Last Dragon.

Was it a Greek wedding? I remember Steve & Betsy's Greek orthodox wedding, the priest placed crowns that looked more like laurels on their heads but he didn't leave them there. Steve Betsy.mp4

Interesting how this human trafficking story in Jupiter, FL seems to not be getting nearly as much laser-like focus as the Jussie Smollet case. Also terrible is the fact that the defenders of these perpetrators are out in full force to defend their actions, as if this is somehow a victim-less crime. These women were threatened and their passports held, while the conditions they are living in are horrendous. That headline is ridiculous. The TV anchor still has a career to spew nonsense, so being chastized and chastened by the twitter-sphere hardly qualifies as being "demolished".

It wasn't to be for Felix unfortunately but he's in good company as neither Tsitsipas, Zverev or Edmund won their first finals. Djere, at 23 likely knew that time was moving quickly for him and he stayed focused throughout the match. Both players have room for improvement. Felix, at 18 will get stronger.

What's happening with Mackie McDonald's game?? I hope he doesn't get bageled in the third set because a double bagel would be a rough result.

That was such a great match to watch and I felt proud seeing Felix get to his first ATP Final, even though I had absolutely nothing to do with his success. Cuevas is a very skilled player, especially on clay. I never thought it was going to be easy and a victory was not a given in my mind but FAA's mentality is getting stronger along with his game and fitness. It is so much fun to watch him progress. Not for nothing but I always felt that Felix had the better game between he and Shapovalov. I just got the sense early on that Felix has a lot more options to work with while Shapovalov seems to rely on a more risky game strategy. I kept it to myself because there are a lot of variables in a tennis career, and I dislike making prognostications and predictions about anyone's prospects because to paraphrase the great William Goldman "nobody [truly] knows anything".

Oh really? That whole match sounds like a lotta yuck! I'm not a fan of Dan Evans at all (he sounds awful too) but if I had to choose the lesser of the two evils, it'd be Evans, if only to be spared more Isner and Gimelstob.

Non-Hollywood Sexual Assault & Sexual Harassment
More on the NYCB/Peter Martins situation. Apparently, Martins has used the fact that NYCB never fully pursued the misconduct allegations investigation to its ultimate end to keep a foothold in the company's performances. Peter Martins Left City Ballet a Year Ago. But He’s Not Entirely Gone. An artist should be allowed to retain artistic control over their work but when the person has abuse and misconduct charges over them, like Martins, they should not be allowed contact with any of the dancers onsite. The fact that he's been allowed to enter the backstage while the dancers are still there strikes me as ridiculous. Martins could easily give notes to the current ballet master/artistic director for NYCB Mr. Stafford and Stafford, in turn, could relay these notes to the dancers. The casting issue seems like a very dicey proposition. If Martins feels that one of the dancers cast in one of his works needs replacing, NYCB should require that he provide demonstrable proof as to why a replacement is in order. If the dancer had been in the principal role for several seasons and all of a sudden he wants to replace the dancer, that smacks of retaliation. I am curious as to how Sarah Jessica Parker feels about this, seeing as though she personally worked with Martins on a series of ballet videos for at-home use (I was gifted one video and worked out with it for several years--I still own a copy). She is also on the board of directors for the NYCB.

Looks like CNN got 'taken in' by that seriously edited video. I knew that once Bernie Sanders entered the presidential race, it would only be a matter of time before we saw some bullsh*t afoot. Anyway, This article made me giggle several times while reading. Looks like, soon, the only building on the UWS of Manhattan bearing his name will be the Trump tower. The Upper West Side’s Banishment of ‘Trump’ on Buildings Is Almost Complete “Of the 83 percent [that] voted, 74.7 percent voted to remove the signage, and 25.3 percent voted not to remove the signage,” 200 Riverside reportedly paid $1 to use the Trump name on the building. Who’s the deal-maker here? Also, this gem: “I am just glad they’re coming down — and him along with it hopefully,” said Mary Stanton, 72, as she shopped in Jubilee Marketplace inside 180 Riverside Boulevard, another building formerly known as Trump. The Trump name has no place there, she said." and this: “When a cab pulls up in front our building, the cabdriver always says, ‘Ugh, Trump!’”

As someone whose family migrated to another country whose siblings are made up of us who were born in the U.S. and elsewhere but have been raised here, I can tell you that identity and national affinity is a lot more complex than people might realize. Often it cannot be reduced to an "either (this) or (that)" proposition.

The Media/Journalism Thread
The Miami Herald has been quietly doing some very thorough investigative and journalistic pieces with little recognition. They are reporting news that I don't see anyone else reporting, or before anyone else does, such as the existence of mainly U.S. based mercenaries in Haiti, who were spirited away back to the U.S. before they could face charges locally. Just thought I'd mention that. Many smaller newspapers have been picking up the slack left behind by the major media outlets.

I knew that FAA was the real deal since his junior days and he has quietly improved from then, to the Challenger circuit and now on the main Tour, he's just growing in composure (and height!). He was born on Roger Federer's birthday (who seems to have taken a liking to him) and like Federer, FAA seems to have a fairly robust game and physical build. I hope Felix can stay healthy as he climbs the rankings because he has the game and mentality to have a bright career on the Tour. Munar can be a pesky, persistent opponent, especially on clay and FAA did not let Munar get his way in the match. At all. The last time I saw the two play, I believe it was the opposite result, which just shows how far FAA has come. And he looks like he's having so much fun!

From what I can remember it was just on the edge of "Damn you fine!" She was wearing an outfit that kind of revealing. I tried to look on her Instagram but it looks like some of the pictures and comments have been removed. Since the accident some people have posted very derogatory, nasty comments so I can't blame her, really.

There really should be no statute of limitations for the type of crimes Epstein has committed but given the connections he has, it wouldn't surprise me if he were not made to pay for the breadth of his crimes.
