  1. My issue with this article is that Hinsey states the time slot will be favorable as it is after B&B. Is she sure about this or is she making an assumption?
  2. You’re welcome. It’s kind of cool to see some evidence of interest in what’s ahead with this show every now and then.
  3. Who says soap operas are dead? 'The Gates' gives hope for genre's revival.
  4. Here’s an article with pictures of a recent reunion, organized as part of a series of events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the series premiere. Melissa Gilbert and stars from 'Little House on the Prairie' reunite. See them now.
  5. Absolutely. Although, I noticed that Tonya Pinkins did a recent guest stint on one of his shows and that woman is legend, any soap would be lucky to have her.
  6. Are you talking just television soaps? Because radio soaps had plenty that didn’t have wealthy families at the onset. Also, didn’t the Ryans of Ryan’s Hope feature a family that was ostensibly blue-collar at the onset?
  7. I’m not going to make any assumptions based on a pitch. I don’t know if anyone else has made a pitch, I have and you are not meant to give details, just a sketch. I plan to hold judgement until I see more details than what is indicated in a pitch or a treatment.
  8. Leon Russell is the chair of the board of the NAACP. AKA “Chairman of the Board”. https://naacp.org/people/leon-w-russell There really are no guarantees in life, no? But CBS is doing this jointly with the NAACP and Sheila Ducksworth is the head of that joint venture, she was name President of this joint venture four years ago, so this may very well have been years in the making, which is why it is launching in the first month of 2025, rather than spring, summer or fall. A quote from 2020, from the President and CEO of CBS Entertainment George Cheeks (also the chief content officer of News and Sports at Paramount+(which could come in handy later)- Something tells me that Ms. Ducksworth will not be bossed around.
  9. FWIW, to me, it seems as if the main drivers of this series are MVJ, CBS and the NAACP with P&G possibly functioning in a supporting role as opposed to their previous role as the sole production company for their soaps in years past. I doubt they will have that measure of creative and production control this time around.
  10. And with the way time flies, it really won’t be that long. I know we’re pretty much all excited and it’s been fun proposing our casting hopes and dreams and ideas and such but I hope people will remember that this is MVJ’s vision and I hope people will allow her to kick off this series her way. We will all have our respective opinions, like we always do and I expect at some point, we will feel free to express them, that’s the fun of this board. But I hope that she'll at least get the honeymoon period that most HWs and especially show creators get when launching something brand new. IOW, let that Black woman write her show!😂
  11. https://www.sportspromedia.com/news/uefa-champions-league-final-tv-us-viewership-ratings-cbs-canale-5-tf1-zdf/ This does not present the clearest of pictures but it seems that there has been an increase year over year. I guess time will discern how “The Gates” will factor into this, but as of now, it seems as though CBS/Paramount+ (another asterisk because who knows what is even going on with Paramount??) is willing to invest in UEFA football at this time. There is also this aspect of this merger between ESPN and other sports network entities to build a big digital/streaming platform (which is confusing since I thought ESPN already had its own streaming platform) and how that could affect broadcast/streaming rights for international football and other sports, if that effort succeeds. CBS seems to be a company in flux, which hold promise and peril for its programming possibilities.
  12. To be honest, that seems more one-sided like CBS soaps take the onus and generate the promotional content and the NFL reciprocates by retweeting. Two interns coordinating a a reciprocal effort. Now if a football star from UEFA were to dribble a ball while saying something about the action in play for awhile before heading back to regularly scheduled CBS Daytime shows then were to kick a ball to Eric Braeden…that would be true cross-promotion. I remember back in the day, CBS Daytime would come up with those clever promos around Labor Day to announce preemptions for the U.S. Open, and those were still primarily clips of scenes taken from various soaps mixed with one or two archival footage from the U.S. Open with voice-overs. Other than someone from the USTA signing off on permission to use those clips, I doubt the tennis organization had much to do with it. I think the sports back then likely had just as much to do with CBS soaps then as they do now and I’d be surprised if that changed anytime soon. It’s up to CBS Daytime to cultivate ways to retain their viewers. It would be fun but realistically, there is not much incentive for UEFA to promote CBS Daytime. They have Golazo which is pretty self-contained and effectively informs fans where and when to watch tournament action, whether it’s tuning into Telemundo/Univisión or CBS. Now, if CBS should get rights to Bundesliga action, someone should get a petition for Eric Braeden to get in some appearances with some players lol.
  13. @Taoboi one more thing about the Nolly miniseries. If I ever got/get to meet anyone involved in this miniseries (it was 3 episodes in total), I would ask about one of the final scenes where I swear, there seemed to be a some kind of a nod to a scene in Room With A View, which I believe was the first movie that Helena Bonham Carter did. I read that Helena was about 18 when she filmed that movie, 19 when it came out. So a particular scene made me think about an older Bonham Carter possibly reflecting on the younger HBC. This could not have been a coincidence. It felt meta and melancholy, all at once.
  14. If the writers know that there is that history of messing around with the ages of the characters (personally, I think a lot is lost when this is done— it’s a wonder that viewers formed any attachment at all to many of these characters when they age them, ship them off to boarding school and bring them back as 18/19 year olds and when they practically stopped writing interesting stories for some of the rapidly aged newer characters, people tend to stop caring, e.g. Chloe, Charlie, Mattie) why not keep milestones like anniversaries vague? Why give a number at all?
  15. UEFA has only been gaining in popularity in the U.S. over the last several years, so it wouldn’t surprise me if CBS extended its commitment, if it hasn’t done so already. Even when the daytime soaps were cash cows, they still often got preempted by the U.S. Open tennis and March Madness. At this point, I would think that the 20th century terrestrial television centric thinking would no longer predominate strategy. CBS has to also be thinking about digital engagement as well. To me, just as important will be to ask whether ad buy for digital will have caught up to terrestrial network television. If the differential in ad dollars is small, then I can’t see a few preemptions being a huge deal. If there is a big disparity, then it could have an impact.
  16. I’m unsure if anyone remembers when I posted in the politics thread about the possibility that this war could go beyond its borders. Back then, the concern was mainly Hezbollah as there was a lot of rockets being fired into Lebanon but in the back of my mind, the possibility of this conflict expanding into Iran has been active and overall, the idea that this war could get much much worse.
  17. That show has so much bad karma surrounding it, seemingly for the show’s entire existence.
  18. Have Holly Robinson-Pete and Leah Remini given any quotes on the impending demise of their old show?
  19. Robert MacNeil co-founder of one of what became one of the best news programs in the U.S. has died. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/robert-macneil-co-founder-of-newshour-dies-at-93
  20. We likely all knew that The Talk would not be long for this…World. 🤭 As to what comes next…the plot thickens. Talk about your Friday cliffhanger.
  21. I am very tempted to watch but my feelings are similar to @Khan. Maybe I will play her and Tom’s sections at normal speed and speed up the rest.
  22. Not to be funny or anything but those other productions have writers to pay while he doesn’t.
  23. Believe me when I say that I would love to forget about him but the reality is that he has many talented Black actresses, among them former soap actresses on speed dial.
  24. Wait, wasn’t Dr. Lassiter married to Ashley?
