I thought Dole's main emphasis was getting rid of Cruz (politically speaking). Speaking of Cruz, his inherent nastiness is taking an increasingly heavy toll on his campaign. This should have been his year, in many ways, and he's been running for President as long as Marco has. He's just so smarmy, unpleasant, and smug that it's easy to believe the worst of him (his wife going around talking about how with Ted you see the face of God, or whatever, and his father being a nutjob doesn't help). His antics are also the main reason Ben Carson is still around, sapping away at crucial support. http://www.politico.com/story/2016/02/ted-cruz-marco-rubio-2016-219645

I think Demi has some valid points, but the timing really wasn't the best. In one sense this is about combating sexual assault, but the bulk of it is about Kesha likely needing money for lengthy and so far unsuccessful legal battles. In this particular instance, if Demi is concerned about Kesha, she would have been better off not splashing some of that about Taylor Swift all over social media. She also, unwittingly, ended up making it all about herself and distracting from her cause.

I like Bernie, but that is crazy. The way I see if the next president is mostly going to be playing defense anyway. Congress is completely hostile. I'm just hoping we can stop the Republicans from completely obliterating women's rights and trampling on the poor. It's something that is typically said - a lot of Hillary backers said it in 2008 (leading to PUMA), but the problem is a lot of the people saying it this year probably don't vote that often. Then again, they probably wouldn't turn out for Bernie by November either. While I don't think Huerta was involved in any conspiracy, as some do, I do think that Hillary's surrogates often end up undermining her and causing unnecessary bitterness. Until all this started I had no idea she was involved in spreading what seemed to be false claims about Obama in 2008: http://www.democracynow.org/2008/2/1/democratic_presidential_nomination_could_hinge_on

I'm reuploading these again, slowly, if anyone wants to see them (if you see other copies they took those from when I used to have them on my old Steph Stokes channel - sadly the channel I got them from is long gone). This one is my favorite of all of them, probably - Liza and Sherry just break my heart.- Search For Tomorrow Discussion Thread
Does anyone know the airdate of this episode? I thought I'd seen all the SFT episodes on Youtube but missed this one.- Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I like your idea. I have a feeling it's about the refugee story though.- The Politics Thread
Media darling Marco is the new media darling Mitt and media darling McCain - everything helps him. They will do anything - anything - to get him in the White House. And at this point the only thing stopping that is probably Trump. Cruz is so incredibly unpleasant in every single way that he is managing to lose a base that should be locked up for him (the "Jesus told me to hate you" voter) to Trump, of all people. I imagine he's also losing some of that to Rubio. Now of course a lot of Jeb's support will flock to Rubio, as they have nowhere else to go, unless Kasich suddenly has a pulse, which I doubt. There are few things more cynical than the breathless spin that Rubio, Nikki Haley and Tim Scott are showing everyone the "new" Republican Party. They are actually just doing the thing that conservatives despised (tokenism) for decades. Their views and policies will do nothing but grind POC into the dust. I assume most POC aren't swayed by this shell game (even if Democrats don't give them a lot to vote for), but guilty white liberals in the press corps lap it up. I still remember the oceans of fawning press coverage when W and Condi Rice went to Iraq incognito and posed as a married couple. How progressive and how far we've come, etc. Trump's anti-Muslim diatribes are now so casual they are more dangerous than ever. It's not about protecting America - it's about reflexive, easy hate. "Joking" that Obama would only go to Scalia's funeral if it were held in a mosque is the most crass, and sadly most successful, bigotry. As for Jeb, he ran as an extremist in 1994 and lost, which likely led to the identity crisis that followed since. This lengthy writeup on his behavior in the Terri Schiavo case is a good look into his mind. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/01/jeb-bush-terri-schiavo-114730- The Politics Thread
That was brilliant. This campaign was Jeb's worst nightmare. Not only to fail, but to fail to a circus clown, and to fail after primary voters rewarded said clown for shitting on his brother's main legacy as President.- The Politics Thread

I think one of the issues is that ATWT was under frequent attack from the media throughout the '70s. The idea was that Agnes Nixon soaps, DAYS, etc. were supposed to be the ideal. It wasn't far off this point that TIME ran the Bill and Susan cover and graded each soap, giving ATWT one star and attacking it as old and tired. Maybe she wasn't being fair to Agnes or AMC, but she also clearly saw what was coming circa 1980...which was ATWT being flayed alive by P&G/CBS to try to make it more like ABC soaps.- ALL: Temporary Replacements

And Jeb's out: http://www.politico.com/story/2016/02/breaking-news-jeb-bush-is-suspending-his-presidential-campaign-219564 Watch the media use this to tell us the real winner tonight was Marco.- The Politics Thread

I have to admit I thought it would be closer (I thought he'd win by about 5%), but Rubio being tied for second with Cruz tells you where the race is going. I think at some point he will overtake Cruz's support and the combined votes along with the support from those who backed Jeb, Kasich, etc. will be enough to knock out Trump later in the race. Meanwhile, Trump's America: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/protest-mosque-event-refugees-texas- ALL: Temporary Replacements
This was probably answered and I have just been unable to find it, but for those who asked about when Beverly Garland temped for Jeanne Cooper - it's mentioned as recent news in an April 1981 (26th or 28th - I can't remember the exact date) SOD, if that helps.- The Politics Thread
Congrats to Hillary - that was a must-win and she and her team had spent a long time making sure not to take Nevada for granted. I do worry about the Hispanic and youth support for Sanders, because if Rubio wins the nomination then I think they may be tempted by him.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I thought he was leaving next week, so I was a little thrown. I guess at least he left with dignity intact, and Leyla wasn't trashed to justify his leaving. I was so afraid she'd have sex with Jai and he'd catch them. I am hoping that Kate Oates not rushing a Leyla/Jai reunion means the new producer might not go there. I'm not sure if you saw this but it's a pretty good interview with Rik about his plans. http://metro.co.uk/2016/02/19/nikhil-sharma-actor-rik-makarem-talks-leaving-emmerdale-his-unique-new-project-and-his-unusual-habit-5703708/ I saw this on Digital Spy (nice to know that sh!thole is good for something). That cartoon is hilarious. Some think it will help Trump in SC, but who knows. http://www.politico.com/story/2016/02/donald-trump-pope-south-carolina-219462?lo=ap_c1 I think SC was never going to be big for him, and I doubt his W-bashing helped either. Jeb may not be popular there, but it's not a state that's likely to hate on a former conservative God-fearing President.- Twin Peaks

I don't think it's as fanbase-driven as TWD, but it's a self-fulfilling prophecy with GoT. From the start they were, to me anyway, far more invested in characters like Dany, Tyrion and Arya than in most of the rest. And that's where their focus still goes now, as does their attempts at less clumsy, generic writing. If Sansa is a favorite, then not only giving her another woman's storyline, but also taking away about 50 IQ points (would the "player" Sansa really think that the best reaction to a lunatic raping her and holding her captive be to taunt him about being a bastard?) is an odd way of showing it. Again what bothers me with the "realism" element is it's only realistic when it's time for rape and violence against women. You can say well, they show torture and violence, and that's real, but it's not something that is often repeatedly invented and revived just for the show, the way the rapes are. And it's only realistic within a narrow parameter. Realism would likely include Sansa bleeding to death, or being tortured, or being violated day after day, the way Jeyne Poole was. They didn't want that (nor did I, obviously), because that can't be spun as "empowerment." So it is, for me, trying to have it both ways on their part. As all this type of writing is on this show. - Search For Tomorrow Discussion Thread
