  1. Scott Thompson Baker interview at 8 minutes, a year or two before he started on GH.
  2. Matt Ashford and those jeans are why the '80s will never die: As absurd as everything with this Hibbert guy is and as absurd as the image of Jo holding dynamite (I would love to hear Mary Stuart's thoughts on that one...) is, I love the portrayal here - a compassionate woman, still trying to see the best of this man (who can't believe that she still wants to believe the best of him), yet also a strong woman, willing to die rather than capitulate. It's a powerful moment. What would we get today? Well, no woman Jo's age would be given airtime, but beyond that - she'd either be passed out, or she'd be screaming and screaming until a man saves her. The scenes where Suzy cries and makes her promise never to go away or put herself in danger are very moving. The essence of the appeal of a character like Jo, and what she meant to viewers. I can see why juniorz1, years ago, mentioned how good Hogan and Sunny were together. It's a shame the show split them up.
  3. A good article about the toll taken by the drip-drip of Wikileaks. The last paragraph says it all about the reality of this election and of the loathing toward Hillary. http://www.politico.com/story/2016/10/hillary-clinton-trump-wikileaks-229864
  4. Short bit of a media conference MEK, Cady McClain, and FMB did in 1993 or 1994 for the Tad/Ted remote. November 1986 credits:
  5. Ilene Kristen on Loving.
  6. Jessica Steen as Trisha. She's pretty good - I can see why ABC put her in a primetime show not long after.
  7. The first time around. The second I think it was more Alex.
  8. At the time that was written, there was one fairly prominent queer story on the show (Sophie/Sian). The other stories were Sean wanting to see his son and Ken's evil gay grandson (Collinson SUCKED). I can't imagine what some alum who disapproved would say about Corrie in the last few years, as they've actually started having sexually aggressive and charismatic gay men.
  9. BE is right - it was the gay stuff. It's also why I no longer want to see Andy Macdonald, a character I thought was needed on the show and always underrated. http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2011/07/11/coronation-street-stars-complain-about-gay-characters/
  10. Carlo was introduced as a drug kingpin. Viki wanted to wipe out drugs in Llanview. This led to their first clashes, and to the episode above where she's shot by one of his men. Carlo was much better in his first run, both the earlier stuff where he mooned over Renee and the S&M stuff with Alex. Nothing about the character (or his brother Mortimer) was ever really the same after they "killed" him off in 1992.
  11. Watched the April 1991 ep. Thanks so much. So rare to find Loving. Enjoyed this episode. This is the first time I've ever seen Ava's sister Carly. She's a good actress. And a bit of Paul and Ava too. They had real chemistry. And Joe Breen was so handsome. I like the way they handled the birth scene - muting out the usual screams that soaps do too much. Who was the man Trucker was buying the baby from? Tricia's distress was moving - I think some of the flashbacks were audio only because Noelle Beck had asked not to play Tricia's stillbirth scenes, due to being pregnant herself at the time.
  12. That second promo is a trip.
  13. I saw a grainy bit of some of this in a Sun article, but I wanted to put more of the complete scene up, especially the 1972 one as it's my favorite Hilda scene. Don't know how long it will stay up, but anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68WKNwFZlk0
  14. That F.ucker article leads to an interesting one about the man who came forward to defend Trump about the alleged assault on Jessica Leeds. It sounds like the man is a lifelong publicity seeker and con. Trump really is bringing all the refuse out into the light, isn't he.
  15. I think one of the reasons for that is some of these may have originally come from a Matt Ashford fan. I can't remember. I really like Matt Ashford as Cagney. It's unfortunate he was so forgettable as Tom Hardy, the other "normal" soap role he played. This clipset is a great example of what an understated, underrated actress Mary Stuart was. She adds such a believable air to what could have been hysteria and ham. I remember reading that before she died P&G had a small party for her to give her a Daytime Emmy and celebrate her career in daytime. I'm glad they did that, because she did so much for them, and truth be told, she knew Search far better than they ever did.
  16. You can smell the stench of this even from a promo.
  17. John Middleton and Zoe Henry interview on GMB. Apparently some at Hollyoaks, including that "actor" who plays Freddie Roscoe (who surely has more important things to deal with at the moment...), had a bit of a boo hoo that their precious POV week was slighted in this interview. I have no tears to cry.
  18. End of an era with Jean and Tony Warren gone. She still popped up to offer comments on Corrie (some I agreed with...some I did NOT) up to several years ago. People remember the "muriel" and curlers, as they should, but she was a very good dramatic actress too, always giving Hilda a believable pathos and heartache that underpinned the comedy. The best was when she spat on the Rovers floor when they started a lynch mob over accusations that Stan was a peeping tom. Corrie made such classic characters in its first few decades, perfectly rounded, relateable, but never too much so.
  19. And it looks like they were three shorts spliced together (I'm not sure if they were all Meleis), which is even better. http://screenanarchy.com/2016/10/czech-film-archive-discovered-melies-film-believed-to-be-lost.html I always figure everything has been found so any surprises always make me happy.
  20. I notice a lot of the promos at this time are very well-made, even when the stories themselves weren't that good.
  21. The notorious Bauer kitchen shootout.
