Y&R: Old Articles
I always have a lot of respect for your Y&R opinions, so if I ever watch any of that again I'll look at it a different way. I don't know if anyone is interested in this but someone gave me this - it's just a short short fragment of an episode before a tape ran out. It's Casey and Matt.

Y&R: Old Articles
I don't think it was out of character for Jill, I just think it was overdone, with "comedy" bits like Katherine knocking her over the head, etc. And the lengthy scenes of Billy berating her. It just alienated me from the purpose of the story, because I felt like they didn't trust viewers to understand. But that's just me.

Y&R: Old Articles
I always felt like the show amped it up in case viewers weren't supportive enough of the Billy/Mac pairing (even though many viewers were). Kay Alden was a very good writer but this was around the time the prop duty started snowballing (I think this is also when Y&R began worshiping Victor as a god rather than acknowledging his flaws the way Bill Bell always did).

The Politics Thread
People are always happy to overlook things that don't affect them personally. Most Trump voters, I would imagine, simply don't care about Jews or anti-Semitism. These are also the voters who will show up again in 4 years when Trump likely isn't on the ticket and a "safer" Republican is.

David Bailey is in the Alpo ad (which seems like it was filmed in the Brady Bunch kitchen...). Is Beverly Penberthy in the ad after that? I doubt it, but she looked a bit like her.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
So did you see David showing his ass (and nearly his pubes) on Emmerdale a few days ago? I never know how they get away with it... All the soaps are a mixed bag these days, some because they just keep killing time, most because they just don't know how to pace stories. 6 episodes a week will always be too much (hell, 4 is too much for EE...).

I started the new thread. It's called The One.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
People always said Chesney dragged her down, but she's just as annoying without him and he's a lot better with Gemma. I think she needs to be killed off. I found a few short episodes of some cheesy UK "soap" from 1996 you might laugh at. I'm going to start a new thread for it. I don't really watch Corrie much these days. Are you enjoying it?

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I think so, yes. It doesn't really work, because Ken and Mike mended fences years before he died and Mike never behaved the way Adam does. He was a different type of scoundrel - he wasn't some type of mouthy thug involved in drugs and all that. It's just lazy. They should have recast Ken's son and grandson that were cast with Bill Roache's son and grandson for the 50th anniversary stunt. Have the grandson, who was a gay schemer, cause drama for Billy and Todd.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I liked the actor who plays Daniel when he was on Emmerdale, but this character just doesn't work for me. The whole push of him being a "young Ken" when they have almost nothing in common beyond reading books, the bizarre implications that he is some sort of psycho and that's why he didn't get laid until he forced himself into it, the pairing with the annoying black hole that is Sinead, etc.

She also likely would have ended up on AW in the late '80s. Her father is Anthony Stewart Head (Giles).

Is Susan Walters in this ad?

Dynasty: Discussion Thread
To me he looks more like a lover or a bitchy hanger-on (he looks sort of like the cookie cutter actor they have playing bitchy gay #943 in Riverdale), than Steven himself, but who knows.

What an unfortunate photo. What happened to his chin? Did he get punched in the nose? He looks more like what a Jeff Colby would have looked like on a budget.

Honestly I don't think that most people who voted for Trump ever gave a damn about any of that anyway, aside from anti-Semites. It's usually the left that gets distracted by that shiny object. Bernie and his supporters made it into a huge issue. I would be surprised if more than a handful of Trump voters went to the voting booth because he was going to "drain the swamp." It was about misogyny, about abortion, about becoming desensitized to his horrible behavior, about the constant media drumbeat that both candidates were as bad as each other, etc.

The GOP and states would have just let it slowly die out, as they were already doing. I don't think most of them ever wanted this responsibility.

I think apathy and a need for quick fixes is what brings us down as a country more than anything else. Both Obama and Hillary assumed voters understood that things take time. Most people simply don't want to hear that. They want lies.

A lengthy evisceration of Tavis Smiley and his staff, from one of his former producers (who seems like a raging egomaniac...). It's one of the more openly virulent of these types of things I can remember. http://observer.com/2017/02/pbs-host-tavis-smiley-and-the-sham-of-public-broadcasting/

All My Children Tribute Thread
It's interesting she says that as I'm not sure what it really means...? Surely AMC as a show was already suited for the '90s, based on its core theme. Unless she meant generic and trying too hard (as a lot of '90s material did, especially in daytime)? AMC of 1986-1987 is stuff that holds up very well and could easily do well today. After that it moves further and further away...which also seems to be around the time she started taking over. I will credit her with part of 1995 being very good though.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I thought that HR's colder nature made offset some of the whining - if Martha had been in those scenes I think she may have just played it as hysterical, which would have made me feel no sympathy for Lily. Martha did have more strength in her work when she returned, but for me she was always, at heart, an actress who mostly lost her spark as she aged, and it seemed like she had much more fun as Rose, who was supposedly closer to her real self from some interviews I read at the time. I think Seganti wanted to leave. In the late '90s he was on the verge of becoming a bigger name but it never really happened, which is probably why he kept coming back.
