I think Lisa stayed until sometime in 1985. Cheatham left in 1984 and was recast with Louise Shaffer. I think someone once said Cheatham may have had an issue with someone on the show at the time - I can't remember.

Due to Trump talking about how he might end the order that has allowed Haitians to stay in the US since the 2010 earthqauke, thousands have been going to Canada, which is now causing headaches because scams are in place which make many of them think all they have to do is show up at the border and they'll automatically get in. This man just has such a corrosive effect on anything he goes near. I hope this won't play into the hands of the far right in Canada. http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/americas/haiti/article169497902.html

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
I saw a Priceline commercial with Kaley Cuoco and Ashley Jones, playing friends. They both had bad-looking hair.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I can't help thinking of Oates saying she regrets killing off strong female characters at Emmerdale. Rita was, at least until about 10-15 years ago, one of the strongest women Corrie ever had, and a believable character, unlike most of the hollow, brittle female characters of recent years. Oates used to be a producer with a lot of heart - it got lost somewhere in 2015, minus a few bits here and there. For that reason, and because I don't think Rita has very strong relationships in recent years, I'm not sure if I would want to see this. Malcolm Hebeden and Patti Clare are good actors, but I don't really believe the relationships between Rita and their characters. Gemma isn't a strong enough character (or actress). So that just leaves Jenny Bradley, and I have no idea where that character ever is in the writing. I wouldn't be surprised if we get scenes where Norris or Gemma accuse her of wanting Rita dead to get her money. I guess we'll see. I would rather just have Rita go on a cruise rather than a "big" exit designed for a soap award and forgotten within a month, but if Oates becomes more like the producer she used to be and if they figure out the right character balance, it could work.

Either that or used it to start some type of murder mystery story. Was Joanna Lee the one who clashed with people or was that another producer? Was she the one who did the Sunny rape story?

The Taylor Swift Thread
Not that anyone asked, but my thoughts on the song itself - it sounds like a throwaway album track from the late '80s or early '90s by an artist "in transition." It does little to shake my feelings that we've been reliving the '80s in the last few years, and not the fun '80s we see in nostalgialand, but the sick dread in the pit of your stomach part of the '80s that I didn't miss. (on the bright side, music [not that song] and TV has improved quite a bit in the last few years, as it was in the '80s, so if that's connected, I should say thanks...)

Given how serious the North Korea situation is, I have to wonder if that brought the hammer down on Bannon and Gorka.

Thank you so much for finding this, Franko. Never thought I'd see it. It's always weird to me seeing Olympia Dukakis on the show.

The Taylor Swift Thread
People think that she whispers the line in the song. Say what you will about Taylor Swift, but I'm not sure why people think the most image-conscious celebrity in decades would release a song taunting about voting for a man who is extremely unpopular and becoming more unpopular every day. Yes I know she has a lot of "heartland" fans, but clearly she wants much more than that.

I'm glad that Obama is a more polite man than I am because my reply to things like this would be, "Kiss my ass." https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/24/opinion/obama-trump-charlottesville-moral.html?mabReward=ACTM1&recid=bb7bf895-62bf-4074-5922-323a05a50119&recp=1?src=recg The same paper that was so happy to scorn Obama during his 8 years in office now having people BEG him for help (what is he supposed to do exactly???) makes my skin crawl. As does this, for different reasons. It's another example of how dangerous the "pray it away" and the "people deserve what they get" contingent are: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/24/health/syphilis-std-united-states.html?mabReward=ACTM1&recid=bb7bf895-62bf-4074-5922-323a05a50119&recp=2?src=recg- HBO: Game of Thrones
This made me laugh (although I have to question whether Jon Snow was ever any type of GRRM avatar - I don't get the impression he's one of those writers who feels a need for one).- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
It didn't really bother me, especially Arthur catching on. I do think the "Laurel goes crazy and can't prove it" stuff was a bit OTT and this part came too soon, although the actresses did their best. Budget-wise I don't think the show can treat Home Farm the way it should be treated. It often feels hollow. The show also doesn't know how to write the melodramatic Dynasty-type stuff and hasn't in many years. Even families I liked, like the Wyldes, generally couldn't make that level of melodrama work.- The Politics Thread
That's a sad, sobering read. The saddest part is seeing people who want to help leaving due to being completely marginalized. No wonder people don't care about going into government.- B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles

For all her lack of self-awareness, I think Bethenny must have known if she'd supported Trump her business ventures would have been destroyed. A lot of people will never forgive that type of vote, probably in New York least of all. - B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
