  1. I'd guess most countries already had this view of us (and are likely worried because marches closer and closer to this nature are happening in many European countries), but Trump's erratic and embarrassing displays on war, and the lack of any strong voice to stand up to him, are things that will haunt us in the eyes of the world for a long time, even if it doesn't get any worse than this past week (which it likely will). Global markets tumbling is something that we're going to all end up paying for. This is why, as you and others have said, you don't elect Presidents who go on about being good for business.
  2. I've heard a few people say they did try for these jobs a while back and were turned away. If that's true (and of course they could have been lying or they could have just been unsuited) I have to wonder how many of these farmers were used to having cheap labor that had no ability to organize or speak up for themselves, and now that they are losing them, they've set up a system where it's hard to replace. Some of it may be down to lazy people not wanting to do the work, but I'm not sure I believe that's the whole story.
  3. Thanks. That was fun. I wonder if the Vulture people just gave them words to say. My favorite part was Kimmy Robertson cursing and Matthew Lillard cracking people up.
  4. Given some of the conservative leanings at Time (aren't they another publication that may be bought out by Trump supporters?) I'm wary of their reasoning.
  5. It really was tacky for an original character's funeral episode to have Dingle stuff, and also the Luke McCallister material. Henry's funeral episode had the Kathy/Chris engagement stuff, which was out of place, but not really disrespectful. This was more on the lines of disrespectful. I do wonder how the old viewers put it up with it then. I wonder if it's because they knew Sandra Gough (who was very good as Nellie) from Corrie. Or maybe because they had softened up most of the family around this point. It's funny though as the Dingles are probably their closest to non-objectionable in recent episodes as I've seen them in a very long time. No tantrums or crime sprees and most of them are in supporting roles. I doubt it will last, of course. It's just surreal. I'm glad you're enjoying the '80s episodes. One of the things I notice about them - and something that vanished fairly quickly with the arrival of the Tates and shortening of the title - is how introspective and intelligent many of the conversations are. The talks about religion and the loss of their wives with Rev. Manning and the rabbi are something that simply would not have aired on the show within a few years. Or the talk with the rabbi and Jack, even. There is also a very nice conversation with Jackie and Kathy about her fears of marriage due to the terrible relationship her parents had. Kathy often felt one-dimensional by the mid-90s...it's a bit sad to remember when she wasn't.
  6. Weird and frightening. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/08/09/cuba-hearing-loss-241469
  7. Little victories are how the GOP won, brick by brick. Thanks for sharing this. I read that this race also had a lot of anti-trans hysteria from the GOP. I'm glad that was rejected, and in a Republican district too.
  8. The same as usual - that we know more and more about how dangerous their capabilities are and we will continue to do nothing, other than vague and half-hearted threats. I hope that the actual people in charge (not Trump) have some solution beyond bombing or running to their shelters, or saying, "Oh they won't attack us because it would end them." The more that is treated as an absolute the more it sounds like whistling in a graveyard.

  11. Doctor Who is one of the less tolerable fandoms I've ever been in, although they were always more pseudo-intellectual than abusive. I wonder if this was more SJWs than anything else. I've never had much interest in his opinions since he said 500000 times how terrible his years on the show were and he only should have had Nyssa as a companion and Tegan didn't work and so on, but he does have a right to his view.
  12. I wonder if we'll be seeing Jake Wardle again. If Lynch ever does more projects I can see him asking Gwendoline to join him - she's very much his type of actress.
  13. Is this Anna Holbrook in this ad around 14 minute? You don't get much of a look.
  14. Yes. It was nice to see Rosemary Prinz pop up a few times in the '80s, and how Marland made use of the London branch after the show did nothing with it for years. I liked that her daughter Amy popped up and had a few scenes with Lien as well.
  15. They just pop up for guest shots after this. When Marland joined ATWT in mid-1985 he told Mark Pinter that he couldn't do anything with Brian, but that he would take time to give him a lengthy exit story, which is what he did.
  16. Thanks for finding that. Is this Thom Bierdz in the McDonald's ad?
