It's a very cheaply made website. It's like Salon. Time is one of those magazines that really is coasting from a long long ago reputation.

The Politics Thread
Apparently it's another variation of "Hillary would have started wars." I have no use for Time (I haven't since they pushed anti-gay material in their magazine via Michael Glatze) or CNN or other media outlets that some on the left are tripping over themselves to support because they delude themselves into thinking that this is some big message to Trump. CNN helped elect Trump, very very happily. They only got upset when they realized he wasn't going to do what they want. Even now they bait him on Twitter to get attention. For all the talk of how much has changed, many out there are still stuck in 2016 mindsets, where they think if media outlets go boo or hiss toward Trump, that means it's awesome and kicks ass. It's all just a sideshow, often based on attention-seeking and validation. I saw that Eminem was pouting about Trump not paying him attention. That's what this is all about to many of these rich, out of touch voices. It's certainly not about helping anyone.

The worst part is that countries like the UK and Germany that are supposed to be a balance are also struggling, which just means more breathing room for Russia, and for China, among others. I think part of it's a distraction but I think a lot of it is also just trolling and wanting to piss people off. His namesake son does that all the time too, and people always rise to the bait. It's easy to get distracted and see it all as a joke. I saw that Jordan Peele was going after Tiger Woods for golfing with Trump, which is something else that got a lot of clicks and laughs, but you'd think that time and energy could be used for something that actually matters.

I would think a better comparison would be with the way that the W twins were treated. I can't imagine that many people comparing Roy Moore and Malia Obama.

Yes. The anniversary episode, Josh wanting to be a minister, the returns for the final months, etc. It departed from its roots many years earlier, but at times it still went back. ATWT from that vile Sheffer on never did.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I think P&G still cared to a point, but they handled it in the wrong way. It was around the early '00s that I think they truly gave up. I think that ATWT was a "better" show in its last 15 years than GL, which could be a horrendous mess and deeply offended me many times over, but I think GL still had some scraps of its identity intact. Outside of the vets, ATWT didn't. They at times seemed incredibly, incredibly ashamed of their past, which demoralized me as a viewer and made the show feel very cold for many years. GL was that difficult but lively relative who sometimes gets better but can't quite do it. ATWT was that relative who sends you a card every so often and then you hear that they're dead and you feel sad but you struggle to remember the connection you once had.

Yes. Last I heard he was a sculptor. Probably, yes, along with the flop Paul recast. It's still dumb to me that they never had Paul and Andy interact again, but typical of ATWT's last 15 years.

SOD gave Duncan and Shannon the worst exits of 1995, complaining that they didn't even leave together. At the time I was sad to see them go, but now I can understand it. Still, it was shoddily done. Looking back I can understand most of the firings, aside from Evan and Andy, but I thought a lot of the exits were poor.

Juliet Law Packer and Richard Backus. It was Culliton who wrote her last 5-6 months and hurriedly wrote her out when she was axed.

I felt like they were trying to replicate his banter with Laura to contrast his relationship with Paige. Doesn't quite work though. I think mostly they liked Melinda Culea but didn't know what to do with her.- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
Insiders say Beghe’s explosive temperament has been an issue over P.D.’s nearly four-year run and that the investigation opened last year was long overdue. One source told of incidents of stunts and other altercations with Beghe that got far too physical and left actors injured. Yikes. I don't think this is the first time recently someone has complained about an actor injuring them from being too aggressive with stunts. Between this and the whole thing with Dylan O'Brien's bad injuries I am starting to wonder if someone is going to clamp down on the mentality of actors wanting to do their own stunts or being pushed into doing their own stunts to save a few bucks.- What Are You Listening To?
As if 2017 wasn't a strange enough year already, here is Channing Tatum giving a very good acting and dancing performance in a Pink music video that somehow manages to make the trite "twisted '50s sitcom Americana" work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBt_88nxG4c- The Politics Thread
I'm even more wary of this Leeann person after reading that she was involved in the attacks against Shirley Sherrod. https://www.opednews.com/articles/What-s-the-Connection-Al-F-by-Rob-Kall-Al-Franken_Leeann-Tweeden_Sean-Hannity_Sexual-Harrassment-171117-154.html If they do it won't be because of this, IMO. Democrats don't need the current Internet to win - they never had it in the past. Democrats need to get their heads out of their backsides, come up with plans, speak honestly, stop shooting their own feet, and treat their loyal voters with respect. It may not be enough to stop all the illegal and unethical maneuvers from the GOP, but it can help with elections. At least it can until the GOP completely takes that right away, which they likely will if Democrats don't get it together soon.- For figure skating fans

Lena Dunham makes me sick to my stomach. What she did to her sister, the campus rape fiasco - on and on. She's a rampant narcissist and an attention whore - she always has to make everything about her. I don't believe anyone actually likes her outside of those who peruse Jezebel. The media wanted to make her a name, they desperately wanted to make Girls a new watercooler show. She fits everything that people were SUPPOSED to like, with the new queen of "not like other girls," but it never worked. She even made a spectacle of giving away her dog. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/07/arts/lena-dunham-lamby-dog.html- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread

Gillian's acting has improved and the character feels more present, but it's just so degrading to see her have to talk about her rape when she didn't want to, have to encourage her son to see her rapist's son, her talking about how she's always been afraid and it's always stayed with her - I feel like it's made her into a victim above all else. I'm not really thrilled with the rewrites making Willmott-Brown some sort of all-powerful Gavin figure either. Here's the Children in Need for this year. The last song seems fitting for the EE struggles of the past year...- EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I'm glad you are enjoying her. There's nothing in Thursday that would change your opinion - she doesn't really do much. Michelle and the '80s version of Kathy meant a lot to me and represent most of what I loved about Eastenders, so this year has...not been an experience I have enjoyed. But at least the Preston story is over and the Willmott-Brown fiasco will be over soon and if America has not been nuked I can look forward to new material in 2018. I just wish I could shake the feeling that Luke is going to rape Ben.- EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Yes. She just doesn't fit in for me at all. The stuff with her and Karen (awful) and Honey (wrecked by SOC) on Thursday...ugh.- EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Yes, but it depends on which actor is saying it. For instance, if Barbara Windsor was saying "ain't," I'd tend to believe it, because she always had a bit of rough to her. I don't with Jenna Russell. It takes a lot of work and time to make this believable - Pam St. Clement was posh but always managed to make Pat's rougher edge feel real - and I don't think Eastenders has that type of time anymore. I'll admit if I wasn't so bitter about what the show has done to one of my favorite characters I'd care less than I do.- EastEnders: Discussion Thread
The problem I have with it (I can't speak for Tim of course) is it sounds about as believable as if Queen Elizabeth was saying it. It just feels very, very false. As does everything about this recast.- The Politics Thread
This is another example of how we're already likely seeing the "me too" movement used to not only discredit Democrats, but also to discredit the movement itself. https://www.thedailybeast.com/a-twitter-account-with-two-fake-ids-accused-a-democrat-of-assault-then-pro-trump-sites-ran-with-it- The Politics Thread
If people can afford to go I can see why. I have to admit I feel like what's going on here is going to be going on in one form or another in many places, including places like Germany which are now being hyped up as the new paradise, but I'd like to believe that isn't the case. I don't think Trump will get a second term, but I fear who will. I don't believe Democrats will win the White House in 2020 and I don't think they will make much headway in Congress in 2018. If the last week has reminded me of anything it's just how good they are at choking themselves out. - The Tracy Quartermaine Lovefest
