  1. Is this David Rasche in the ad around 2:03?
  2. I had the same thoughts you did - seeing Quinn and Maisie just helps to enrich the canvas, yet they were both dead within months. I actually get very annoyed when I see Quinn because she has so much potential. How did they not notice? While I don't think the Mary story worked, I can understand why Denise Alexander must have been compelled by the story. It's some great stuff for an actor to sink their teeth into. The Rachel/Mitch stuff is what gets my attention the most. It's character-driven and well-acted (and Rachel looks so stylish - I love her belt). Meanwhile Felicia is slowly becoming interested in Mitch herself. This is so much better than what we would get within a few months (the Donna recast mess, the serial killer story).
  3. Thanks. That's a shame. And sadly typical. They were a real force in those clips - they have still done well for themselves (and I know it isn't about commercial success for the sisters anyway) but it's unfortunate they got such criticism. And it seems like black women are the ones who get the "sold out" criticism the most.
  4. Camille had nothing else. The question is whether Julie tries to salvage what she has, or just stays with Les for security. I know there's talk that Big Brother might be canceled after this season, as the ratings, while still decent for summer filler, have slipped. And now with this. If it happens then the only show she has left will be a format that will cruelly expose her.
  5. This hits on a lot of what many here have talked about in the past, regarding the ACA, red states and their dependency on programs they claim to loathe, etc. Joe Manchin is running an ad which tries to thread that needle - shooting a lawsuit designed to take away the pre-existing conditions clause in the ACA. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/obamacare-back-on-the-ballot-in-west-virginia
  6. Reading through all this is so disheartening (especially the part about his replacement). It shows just how little has changed.
  7. Somebody I know in Sweden was very upset about this op-ed. The NYT is being the NYT, as usual. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/06/opinion/how-the-far-right-conquered-sweden.html It sounds like the far right party made gains, but that the main two blocs are still in power, if they can form a coalition.
  8. I get vibes of Cynthia Preston's son and Will Cortlandt as they seem to have this character type with potential and he always ends up becoming a murderer or going psycho. It's a shame, as Dysert is very good. As is Linda Gibboney, who is just enthralling as messy, messy Sybil. I was watching the August 20th episode and the way she toys with poor pathetic Devon is something to behold. Poor Linda never seemed to get the real break in soaps she deserved. Opal is just horrible in these early episodes. Not only exploiting her underage daughter to perverts, but slapping her around. I notice they made sure we didn't see the slap - I wonder if they were worried about complaints. AMC always had a rough edge compared to the other soaps, as shown by how popular Billy Clyde became in spite of being a violent pimp, but I'm still a little surprised at how beloved Opal became after watching this. I can't believe they already had the seeds of the Jesse and Jenny friendship planted only three episodes into Jenny's arrival on the show. It's been such a long time since I have watched a soap that was intricately plotted. It makes me feel sad. I may be wrong, but I was sure he was not wearing underwear. Soaps in the early '80s were really something.
  9. For all the backlash the #MeToo movement has gotten, especially since Asia Argento weaved her sick web, there is still something so powerful about these women seeing this movement and finding the inner strength to speak up in a way they never had before. This woman in her 80s (I wonder if she is related to Linda Gottlieb...), retired, run out of the industry, taking the risk of going to the police, then the press - it's so brave.
  10. Wow. I had no idea. I assumed it was just somebody who did extra work on the shows.
  11. The mention of the Clark sisters made me look up the performance. I first saw this when Wendy Williams brought the wrath of the "saints" earlier this year. It's pure electricity. (I guess their other sister no longer performs with them)
  12. The show really needed a better hairstylist at this time (for the men and the women). Didn't the show start getting a makeover a year or two after this? It was much needed. Hair issues aside, Mark LaMura is so gorgeous and charismatic. He really pops. If risque cable soaps had ever established themselves he would have been perfect for one. It's nice to see more of him with Ellen. I wish I could see their early days. Devon...bleh. It's terrific to see all these episodes.
  13. That was very moving when she thanked the interviewer at the end after all the decades of people dismissing of ignoring her.
  14. Thanks. This is the one I guess: I have never read her book so I had no idea how extensive some of her problems with other producers were as well. The saddest part is the journey from her being passionate about the show to knowing they didn't care and just trying to hang on as long she could. I wish they'd asked her about being asked back in later years. Or about the rumors about being asked to join Loving. I wonder how much of Jean Arley's exit was down to celebrating Ellen Holly and Lillian Hayman. I figured she was mostly let go because of ratings issues.
  15. Was Joe Stuart also the one who did the dressing room (or was that when Doris Quinlan was still there?). Stuart sounds like he mostly brought problems to the show.
  16. Does she say anything about Paul Rauch in these? I've watched several and she is a brilliant actress and storyteller even here. It's just difficult to watch them more than one or two here and there because of the pain she feels.
  17. I mostly just expected speakers who would focus on Aretha and her life, rather than bashing black women, or talking about Trump, etc. I do agree that there were many there who did right by her, but those who were more focused on public response got the response they were looking for, and that is what ended up getting the coverage.
  18. The press would be more invested if a "reasonable Republican" had given the speech. They don't like Obama. It will only interest them in the context of Obama vs Trump. I saw one article almost slobbering as it said everyone had been waiting for this day to come. Sadly he doesn't have much credibility on any side. It's disgusting to see how many in the press are just treating the whole thing as a "win" for the GOP and about how this will help in the midterms, and so on. It's all a game to them. They don't care about this man clearly being a stooge and a crony and a far right extremist.
  19. There are about 20 videos on that channel with Ellen, if anybody wants to see them all.
  20. Now I want to see it even more... That's a great story about Jacqueline Courtney. I guess Irna had the right instincts, as she often did. If she hadn't pushed so hard then we may never had the Alice we knew and who was so important to AW. I think I've asked you this before as well, some years back, but Irna said something in an interview about some type of living off the land story with Carol and Tom. Did that go anywhere?
  21. That sounds...odd. I wish I could see it. I'm sure Pat Bruder was terrific. I'm trying to remember if the Stewarts was the family I read the anecdote about where even the child actors were brought into the room and they were all let go at once. I'm sorry if I asked this before, but were you bothered by the scene that upset some, where David took Ellen to a bar or restaurant to tell her Paul had died?
  22. Once Upon a Time definitely had a rabid fanbase. I remember the "Swan Queen" fans (who wanted the Evil Queen and the Jennifer Morrison character to be a couple). They would get into Twitter fights with cast and crew (like one of the dwarves) and brag about confronting producers at events to talk about how they let lgbt representation down or were queerbaiting, and so on and so forth. It was a mess. I grew to accept Liz Keifer, but Sherry was always the true Blake to me. She was riveting to watch. More than she ever really was on ER. The part was perfect for her. I still miss GL and I still think of all the soaps it was one of those that could find a following if it came back in some form today. The others I'd pick would be Edge of Night or OLTL.
  23. Glad to see those 1981 episodes up again. They were up on a now defunct channel with two OLTL August 1981 episodes and some ATWT 1992 episodes. Those episodes were re-uploaded by munecojim but these hadn't returned. I think the last time they also revived my old "Is that Carla Dragoni from Intervention?" query.
  24. When she was announced as coming back the press statement suggested to me they planned for her to be a bit of a pot-stirrer or bitch...but most of what I've seen onscreen was not that at all. Maybe it was lost when McTavish left.
