@safe here's an old New York Life ad featuring Richard Backus (sort of). Certainly a very unique use of him.- B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
Thank you @YRfan23 ! What a hoot. Remember when we actually had anything to say about B&B? (for anyone who doesn't remember - Susan Flannery used to reference this scene any time she had a scene or storyline that she thought sucked) What an awful, ridiculous story - even for 2018 soaps. (for some reason I thought it was "Seventh Avenue" not "Ocean Avenue") I didn't know Caroline and Stephanie had the same hairstyle. Ridge really did have mommy issues... Kristen looks pissed off. Maybe it's just the eyebrows.- The Politics Thread
I wonder if the Republicans will play along - they are so craven they probably will. I am glad we are getting the nominee in a week as it's obvious that he is probably going to pick Kavanaugh, or another far right activist white guy. Throwing in a few women and minorities feels more like lip service than ever with someone like Trump. I saw that Ben Shapiro was freaking out about Kavanaugh not being the right kind of conservative until various people of his ilk stepped in to reassure him. I have a feeling this guy is going to just be there for corporations and won't even bother to hide it - he will be so bought and paid for (even more than Gorsuch) we will see a cash register pinned to his robe.- Any Capitol Fans Here?
I said that in reply to someone asking if he could put the episodes back on somewhere. Sorry if it wasn't sensitive enough, I just thought they'd want a quick answer.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
They probably would have cried so much Oakdale would've been flooded. MJ returned briefly in 1998 or 1999, when John was in court with Carly about her unborn child (I think). He thought he was the father as he'd artificially inseminated her and used his own sperm (ugh) without her knowing (she wanted a baby so she could get a lot of money from Rosanna). I think he didn't come back with Sheffer because they just didn't care about John by that point. I can see why Marland split them up - Lucinda had to pay a price for her many, many schemes so that viewers would feel sorry for her. Losing John was a big part of that. And she continued to be a major part of his life, which led to more drama. I think the mistake was in what they did with John after he and Lucinda split up. The relationship with Iva was just so somber, and he didn't need another child. John worked best on the outside.- Any Capitol Fans Here?
Capitol promo about 8 minutes and 45 seconds into this.- Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Radar is generally a crapsite.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I was going to try to make a clip of the promo but it didn't work. Somebody put up some old May 1982 ads and one has a promo of John and Ariel about 8 minutes and 45 seconds in.- Santa Barbara Discussion Thread

Montega is first mentioned in late 1984 as Lucinda learns about the revolution there and has Craig go rescue Sierra. I don't remember if he knew Sierra was her daughter at that time or not. We never saw Jacobo, I believe.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I couldn't stand her either. She was so damn whiny and never really very happy with anything, and I didn't understand why so many cute boys were interested in her. I always felt like she dragged Andy down. I wish he'd been allowed a fun pairing - even one. (Julie doesn't count as Julie was a mess, even though I enjoyed their friendship)- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
@I Am A Swede I just gave you the links to the ones that have Eric or Jack - there are others, some I know you wouldn't want (Dingles) some I'm not sure of (Bernice, Diane, Katie and Andy, Soapstars family, Bob, Tara and Angie, Paddy and Emily, Ollie and Marc). More tariff winning, this time from GM: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/29/business/automakers-tariffs-job-cuts.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur- The Politics Thread
Is Homan the one who gave that awful interview on TV a few weeks ago? (I know that doesn't narrow it down) The only thing that makes me wary is Trump already has plans to combine and shut down so many departments, likely to make them even more subservient to him. I wonder what he will do with an immigration department entirely of his own making...- The Politics Thread
It would depend on who takes over that role. China and Russia won't be any better. Europe is fracturing and Merkel, the main one holding things together, is likely in her last term of office. The UN itself has no problem turning a blind eye to hate speech, bigotry, and dictatorships - they are just more subtle than the idiots we now have in office. America has been severely diminished in global power over the last few decades anyway, whether it be W alienating the world, or the virulent racism and ugliness Obama faced from so many so-called leaders like Duterte. I do think Trump has sped it up, but it's going to happen no matter who or what. I mostly fear what is next to come - for them and for us. At least this idiot won't have any role: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jun/29/un-trump-migration-agency-snub-nomination-rejected-iom- As The World Turns Discussion Thread

I don't really follow Medicare for All stuff because I know it isn't going to happen anyway, but this is a pretty good pitch (it's a shame the NHS itself is under siege and those running the UK government are desperate to make their health care system like ours).- Your daily (or nightly) thought
This is pretty disturbing to read about - I had no idea hospitals could charge such fees for ER visits. https://www.vox.com/2018/6/28/17506232/emergency-room-bill-fees-health-insurance-baby- The Politics Thread
Shameful. And frightening. I keep being surprised by how high up the corruption goes. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/say-hello-to-your-boy-a-special-guy https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/28/us/politics/trump-anthony-kennedy-retirement.html But they had a connection, one Mr. Trump was quick to note in the moments after his first address to Congress in February 2017. As he made his way out of the chamber, Mr. Trump paused to chat with the justice. “Say hello to your boy,” Mr. Trump said. “Special guy.” Mr. Trump was apparently referring to Justice Kennedy’s son, Justin. The younger Mr. Kennedy spent more than a decade at Deutsche Bank, eventually rising to become the bank’s global head of real estate capital markets, and he worked closely with Mr. Trump when he was a real estate developer, according to two people with knowledge of his role. During Mr. Kennedy’s tenure, Deutsche Bank became Mr. Trump’s most important lender, dispensing well over $1 billion in loans to him for the renovation and construction of skyscrapers in New York and Chicago at a time other mainstream banks were wary of doing business with him because of his troubled business history.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
Thank you. I really liked Aunt Jessie. And the best Dolly... I know that time period is past when you enjoyed it, but someone gave me some This Morning interviews from 2000-2002 - a few have Clive Hornby and Chris Chittell. If you want me to post them for you I will.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I think so, yes. I didn't really know a lot about Ellen's past when I started ATWT, but I still appreciated her and her being dumped was another sign 'my' ATWT was gone. She had such a good dynamic with Emily and Susan that always enriched their relationship, which it needed with the more one-note KMH playing Emily. - Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread
