  1. Yes. I just find them both manufactured and desperate (I also think he's heading for a breakdown).
  2. Great for Lizzo. And I'm very glad at who she kicked off the #1.
  3. Can't wait for the BoycottWalmart tags trending on Twitter, even though most of the people in their communities have little to no choice but to shop at Walmart (or the dollar store). I guess blaming video games wasn't cutting it anymore. Laws are not changing anytime soon, even if a Democrat wins the White House, so this is the only real way forward.
  4. Stephanie became such an awful caricature by her last decade on the show. I despised the thug life Stephanie we got of later years.
  5. You know I felt that way for a long time until I actually went back and watched some of the episodes this year, and, sure, he gets a lot of focus, but considering he was by far the biggest star ever to appear as a cast member, other people also got attention - well the women generally don't, but that wasn't down to Eddie Murphy, it was down to producers and executives, who, among other things, supposedly asked them to lift up their tops for cash, told them they would be better off selling shoes, and in the case of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, asked her to straighten her hair for an entire season because it made her look more fuckable. As for Leslie Jones (I know you didn't bring her up, just joining the posts together), I think the way she was treated by the far right was disgusting, and I'm glad that she was able to stay at SNL as long as she was to get more comfortable oncamera and find some projects (she's going to be hosting a new Supermarket Sweep). She really came into her own in her last season. She had a sketch with Emma Thompson which was kind of a mess (it was seen by many as racist, for one thing) but it was broad physical comedy, and she more than held her own with Thompson, which was a real feat. She also had a funny sketch with Matt Damon:
  6. The show is all plot, no character, no heart.
  7. I tried to get past my longtime fondness for Al Franken as I do think he made mistakes, but still, I didn't know what to say because I just found her opportunistic and incredibly tone deaf politically, so...I guess you summed it up.
  8. Kirsten Gillibrand has dropped out. https://www.politico.com/story/2019/08/28/gillibrand-exits-presidential-race-1477644
  9. What did you think of that lady she killed...Dana?
  10. Another day, another reason I am repulsed by NYT. (the person she is addressing is an NYT reporter who is fuming that Beto O'Rourke kicked Breitbart people out of an event)
  11. Yep. I will say that the producer of that era was a d-bag, but he did a great job keeping Eddie Murphy as long as he did. It's a real contrast to Lorne Michaels, who has routinely fired or punished cast members for wanting to make an outside film.
  12. Isakson ran as a moderate conservative, but there's no such thing in recent years, so he is pretty much a party line vote. I wonder if Stacey Abrams will consider this race. I don't think she will, and she's probably right not to do so, but she'd be formidable.
  13. People mostly tend to associate Eddie of the '80s with his movies and extremely controversial standup, but he was a very talented sketch performer, and his work has held up better than many, partly because he had the power to push back against some of the racist material that other black cast members haven't been able to push back on. I don't see him really doing much of that this time around (I have a feeling he may mostly do pre-taped films to air on the night and make a few live appearances), but I'd like to see him give it another whirl.
  14. He's one of a gaggle of NYT op-ed writers who talks about what a victim he is because of his right-wing views. He's a climate change denialist and a Tucker Carlson fan. That poll makes a little more sense, as Warren and Sanders are likely canceling each other out. I'm surprised Castro never has gotten much higher, in spite of a lot of praise and push. I feel like this particular cycle people settled early on a few candidates and just want it to all be over. I know I do.
  15. Same old NYT.
  16. More and more nervous about Biden...I have a feeling he's going to end up eking out a rough win in the primaries at best with a lot of people staying home in November. And if he doesn't then Warren or Sanders will be a bruised nominee (I'm hoping Sanders won't be the nominee at all as I genuinely do not want to vote for him). https://www.politico.com/story/2019/08/26/bernie-sanders-elizabeth-warren-joe-biden-poll-1475440
  17. The Trudeau photo reminds me of a recent article about his careful image planning for how he will come across to the world compared to how he is increasingly seen in Canada (especially in terms of faux-feminism). https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/aug/22/justin-trudeau-the-rise-and-fall-of-a-political-brand (I do think the worst is probably over for him)
  18. I'm glad you're enjoying it. The Gray story is so badly written to me it's made me go on a hiatus from the show. The setup was so clumsy and I'm so bored of the evil middle-class trope on EE.
  19. Didn't Andy get a bee in his bonnet about a gay comment she made or was that someone else? I feel like any woman who doesn't fall into that clique gets iced out by the show.
  20. I think Sward came in midway through that story. The awkward part is one of those age-iffy pairings for Bob ended up carrying over to real life...
  21. The stuttering and bad line readings with Kevin and Stephanie...oof. Reminds me of @Khan saying there was a reason why their song was "Words Get in the Way."
  22. I liked BMH but he just was given rotgut material. Yes, the Alana relationship was his best outside of Dorian. I'd rather just ignore all the rest.
  23. I don't think anyone at OLTL gave a damn about Joey by about the last year Nathan was in the role, but I do think if they'd invested in Chris he would have been a real asset to them for years to come (if he had wanted to stay). Of course even if they had, JFP would have fired him because he wasn't tall enough...but still, at least there would have been some good material rather than what ended up happening (Nathan having one really good story [with Dorian] and then a lot of dross before leaving).
