Y&R to air classic episodes
Oh that will be good - I know they will junk things for time but I am hoping we'll get some classic material outside of Victor and Nikki. Lorie, Vanessa, maybe Paul if this is still when he was in his white trash period (or was he already a good guy by 1981...), maybe some Deborah Adair Jill...and Liz. I'd be so happy to see Liz.

Y&R to air classic episodes
Bell liked to tell noir stories and Gothic mysteries when he could. From what some here have said, Nina Arvesen's performance captivated him and he wrote and wrote for her (I think he may have changed plans that would have had her as her husband's killer). Bell loved writing for complicated heroines and anti-heroines. He certainly wasn't flawless, by any means, but I'd say he and Henry Slesar are the two male writers in daytime who most knew how to write for women and knew how to make them such fascinating characters. It's never been the same after he had to retire - characters like Ashley were quickly gutted like fish. Oh I didn't know they were doing this. Which episode will it be? (something about VIctor presumably) Hopefully these will be put somewhere. I will have to remember to set it up and hope nothing is cut in.

Y&R to air classic episodes
Brenda said she changed the way she played Jill because the writing for Jill had changed in her years away, that Jill had become a bitch, and so on. I think she still managed to have some restraint until around the time Jill and John divorced and Jill was starting over - then she started going hogwild with the turbans and so on.

If not for Cassandra I never would have gotten into Y&R. Boy I just adored her. I guess that should have told me something about myself...

If I'd been on a board at the time of that GL I would have probably been fuming - looking back I realize they were not entirely to blame (and I think Rauch and/or MADD were sabotaging them) but there were so many choices that made no sense and so many moments that just felt inauthentic (Blake seemed to become Lucy Coe overnight).- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

I thought Hilary Edson worked well with Peter Simon, and the story of her attempts to reclaim her sanity and reputation was one of the few I connected with by that point. I also thought that the right to die story and Rick's angst over what to do was good drama - and that story was also one of the few times I bought Barbara Crampton as Mindy. I always kind of wondered if they did intend for her to be a more permanent coupling with Nick if they hadn't managed to book a 'name' (sort of) as Mindy.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

One of the dullest recasts ever, and so cold and sanctimonious. I knew I disliked her when I was rooting for Danny in their child custody and divorce wrangling, even though he was a gangster. It speaks volumes that she was going to be recast when the show ended and also that she wasn't even asked for that reunion chat (as far as I know...). He was thrown into Marah's age group, yes, for that tacky, stupid "virginity bet" story where three men were desperate to get into her pants. Lindsey McKeon has gone on to prove herself as an actress, but she was never worth the focus she got on GL.- Another World Discussion Thread
I would never have gotten so into AW without that website. It's so beautifully detailed. Like the Edge of Night website. I'm glad they are both still around (I think). That was also the only place to find past material for AW before Youtube came along (I know there was WOST but I never had the Internet connection strength to enjoy that while it was at its peak).- Another World Discussion Thread

GL at its best was never really just about romances. I never cared about his relationships with women (I did like him with Bev's Alex; Jay and Maureen Garrett had a certain spark but the relationship relied too much on suppressing Holly's personality), but he was a great community character, and I liked his friendships with Ed, Ross, etc. He was the only reason I sometimes tolerated Nick (Nick was a godawful character until his last six months or so on the show). I also thought his relationship with Ben was very touching, a bond built not on blood but on loss and found family. I never forgave the show for what they did with Ben. For all her flaws I'm glad Ellen Wheeler at least acknowledged this, opaquely, in the finale.- Santa Barbara Discussion Thread

Jada Rowland briefly mentioned her Hamptons work in the Doctors WATN video - mainly that she only agreed to do the show if she would be killed off.- B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles

Cotton terrifies me. He's so dead behind the eyes and that voice is straight horror film. Sadly many on the left adore him and are trying to push him as an example of why the left and the right must work together against the evil DNC.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
