At this point McConnell likely doesn't want or need 4 more years of Trump. He does need to drag this out until the Georgia runoffs, so he will placate him - and endanger this country - for as long as possible. It can't be said enough that we can't let people forget what's going on. We can't let this be normalized. Similar to the Typhoid Amy situation, it's not about just saying "hypocrite!" It's about holding these people accountable and using their same tricks to thwart them.

Various Republican officials continue to join Trump's bogus lawsuits. It would be easy to say that this is down to wanting to help him, or Russian influence, or what have you, but many of them know he will lose but are working long-term to give more power back to gerrymandered extremist activist right wing legislatures to help them rig elections in 2022, 2024, and far beyond.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread

Not really, no. Marland struggled to write for characters with an edge, but the biggest problem with John in Marland's era was that the pairing with Lucinda meant John had to be the more rational one - when they were together and even after they split up. A marriage where both were schemers could have been interesting, but was never going to happen, because Lucinda was constantly in motion, moving plots and self-sabotaging and being punished for her sins. John was a key part of that under Marland's pen. Both the Emma and Iva relationships were very plot-driven - he was with Emma to create more conflict from the Meg/Dusty/Lily/Holden quad, and he was with Iva because of the Aaron storyline. (supposedly Lisa and Larry also wanted to work together because they were involved at this time - no idea if that was true or not)- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I think this is one of the reasons I am more drawn to some of the 91-92 Snyder material than many here are, as it goes back a little more to the hostility between Iva and Emma and also to how toxic the Snyder dynamics can be. First Iva and John (such a stupid, lazy writing choice, but the brief episodes where Emma was resentful [as she really had loved John, probably more than Iva ever did] were worthwhile) and then various members of the family learning about all her lies, how she wanted to protect Lily and Holden while also being able to raise a child, leading to so much chaos. Emma was briefly mad at her, which should have gone on longer. (the tension with Lily also could have gone on longer if they had not fired Lisa Brown in favor of the big fat nothingburgers dumped all over the canvas in 1994)- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I'd forgotten about Lilith. That was the closest Marland came to pure camp - there were other fun bitch types, like Tess, or Marcy, bur Lilith was the one who could have stepped into a John Waters film without much divergence. Sara Botsford could play serious with the malicious glee underneath. Even her big moment where she's on the catwalk and Duncan sees her, she plays in just the right way. Regarding Iva, I think early on they were a bit better at othering her and playing up a certain refined trashiness in her, alongside the Snyders at large. Once Marland cleaned them all up by the end of 1986 or so, she became more of a generic, suffering heroine.- The Politics Thread
I'm very sorry about what you're going through. I'm always terrified people I know will fall into this trap, especially as some of the friends of family members of mine are getting into it, or are close. And of course it's from Facebook.- The Politics Thread
Yes. A lot of people, buttressed by some terrible polling, didn't get how prominent split-ticket voting or checks and balances type voting would be. Biden and Collins had a huge crossover vote. I've seen some, like Jeet Heer, trying to blame Biden because he supports bipartisanship, but that's a lot of nonsense - it's more that the country is far more right wing and easily persuaded by Republican and media-friendly Republican takes than by the left. Georgia is going to be hard, especially because a lot of the suburban vote that went for Biden won't be going downballot. I don't know if Ossoff has any real shot. I am hoping Warnock might manage to get through based on how truly repulsive Kelly Loeffler is, but it's going to be hard.- The Politics Thread
This fits with a lot of what you hear about Florida's Democratic Party (for years now) - and is one of the reasons I've felt the national party may be better off just writing the state off, if possible.- The Politics Thread
Just terrifying.- The Politics Thread
Thanks @Khan . One of his campaign people was also going off on Twitter. It's just pointless infighting, and she shouldn't have mentioned his name.- The Politics Thread
For anyone wondering how to help in the Georgia Senate runoffs.- DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos

Going through that AOC interview was difficult. She sounded extremely wounded and was lashing out, not helped by that conference call with Abigail Spanberger going after the left being leaked a few days ago. The interview also led to a spat with Conor Lamb (PA Congressman) and his people. I think AOC never quite has known how to handle the fame thrown at her or the harsh realities of legislating, especially in current DC/America. And for all the taunting of some on Rose Twitter about the incredible success of socialist Dems in Congress, this election really shut the door on them having any ability to do anything, not to mention Democrats will have a difficult time keeping the House in 2022. I get the feeling AOC wants to go but doesn't want to fully say it yet. She probably will sometime next year. Given Ilhan Omar's difficult background, I am not surprised that she seems to be more adept at navigating this environment than AOC. It's a shame that Omar is, IMO, a big grifter, because she probably did play a key role in helping Biden with Minnesota.- The Politics Thread
So sorry to hear that @Juliajms- The Politics Thread
Black voters and candidates were actively patronized, condescended to, and outright attacked in myriad ways from both the left and the right over the whole process. Even now the media is more focused on trying to convince people that black voters supported Trump than on the reality that their votes delivered this victory. It's unfortunate how many people only care about narratives and about confirming their own racist beliefs.
